Duplicate content problems, so why does WordPress post onto Tumblr?
-
Hi Everyone,
Basically I know that if you have duplicate content your ranking is effected! This I understand, so why is it that WordPress has the option to post your blog entry straight onto your paired Tumblr account?
Surely if this can be done, I can have the same content on the company website but also on WP and Tumblr? Or is there some sort of method to how it works specifically for those 2 websites?
Thanks in advance.

Yeah and I'd also suggest utilizing the Yoast SEO plug-in. Best I've found at a high level.

Brilliant! I was just curious as so many people talk about the SEO capabilities of WordPress and how many people get pushed towards WP because of it. So if people are none the wiser they will conclude that posting on Tumblr so easily will be beneficial.
On that note I best begin re-doing the company WP account. It may or may not explain why we had a bit of a tumble in some rankings and an increase in others.
The wonders of SEO.
Thanks Alan.

Just because a software platform or CMS allows you to do something doesn't necessarily mean it's good for best practices SEO. That's a very important concept to understand.
The reality is every major platform out there is built with all sorts of functionality and features that could potentially harm SEO because none of them were built with SEO as the primary focus. And even if that had been the case, SEO is constantly changing in enough ways that it would be even more challenging for those developers to keep up with it, given that there's not very often enough early consensus when algorithm change occur to then roll out an upgrade accordingly.
So. Having said that, I highly suggest that posting duplicate content in its entirety is NOT a wise notion from an SEO best practices perspective. And in turn, every "feature" you discover needs to be given the same evaluation respect.

Blog post generating irrelevant traffic. What should I do with it?
I have a blog post that has been generating more than 75% of my website's traffic month over month.-averaging about 1000 views a month. Awesome that so many people are finding and benefiting from this post, however it is really skewing my traffic. I have an 87% bounce rate, and I'm only ranking in terms related to this post as opposed to industry related terms. I'm not sure what to do with this blog post. I want to be able to better evaluate my website's performance and be sure I'm targeting the right audience in order to gain more leads. Would a 'noindex' or 'nofollow' be appropriate here? Thanks!

We want to move Content from one domain to another
We have a large amount of unique content on a domain we are no longer using/promoting. Its been sat there for a couple of years. Its literally wasted content on a non used or promoted domain. We want to move it to a busy site of ours. Are there any best practices or pitfalls we should be aware of?

Are press releases that could end up being published with duplicate content links point back to you bad for your site ?
With all the changes to the seo landscape in the resent years im a little unsure as to how a press release work looks in the eyes of Google (and others). For instance, you write up a 500 word press release and it gets featured on the following sites : Forbes Techcrunch BBC CNN NY Times etc ... If each of these cover your story but only rewrite 50% of the article (not saying these sites wouldn't re write the entire artcile, but for this purpose lets presume only 50% is rewritten) could it be negative to your backlink profile, ? Im thinking not, as these sites will have high authority, but what if once your press release is published on these sites 10 other smaller sites re publish the stories with almost no re writing, either straight from the press release or straight from the article in the mainstream news sites. (For clarification this Press release would be done in the fashion of a article suggestion to relevant journalists, rather than a blanket press release, via PR Newswire, mass mail out etc. Although i guess the effect with duplicate content backlinks is the same.) You now have c. 50 articles online all with very similar content with links pointing back at you, would this have a negative effect or would each link just not carry as much value as it normally would. By now we all understand publishing duplicate content on our own sites is a terrible idea, but dose have links pointing back to your self from duplicate (or similar) content hosted on other sites (some being highly authoritative) effect your site 's seo ?

How many categories should you have within a blog / Wordpress Site for SEO?
Hi Guys I am just wondering whether or not for SEO purposes it is better to have a small number of categories for your blog posts to fit into as opposed to numerous ones. The reason I ask is that I have one site which is fairly new to the search engines - 8 months old which has 7 general categories within the blog for instance "rail contractors", "railway construction" "airport construction" etc I have another site which is 10 years old which has built up 25 different types of categories for instance brand design, brand development, brand management (i guess you could put all these under 1 category "branding"? We've been writing lots of press for both sites... yet the younger site is getting more coverage on Google page 1. Would this be because the blogs / press are more concentrated under a specific category as opposed to being spread thinly throughout the site? Any help would be appreciated. Debs 🙂

Why my competitors posts rank well if those posts have lower SEOMoz?
Hello SEOMoz forum! I have a smart phone related blog, but it's not publish new related posts. I saw that most of my competitors rank well than me, even if they don't have a higher rank on SEOMoz (PA and DA). Most of their post's SEOMoz PA rank is lower than (1-5), but similar post on my blog have higher PA rank (10-15. Thanks!

301 Redirect & Duplicate Content
We currently have 16465 audiobook products presented at our Web store. 5411 of them are out-of-publication (OOP). Here's an example: Harry Potter Audiobook 2 : Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - J.K. Rowling - cassette audiobook Many of the 5411 OOP products are duplicates and triplicates of one title but were offered on a different medium (cassette, CD or MP3 CD) or were a different type (abridged, unabridged, dramatized). The description (story-line) is the same for all. Because we know once a page gets on the Internet, it can live there for years, we decided to keep OOP product pages at our Web store to: Let those who may have searched for the product and clicked on a link to an OOP product's page that it was no longer available. Invite them to explore our Web store. Let them know that although the product may not be available on cassette, CD or MP3 CD, that it might be available as a digital download. We know that Google does NOT like duplicate content from one site to another and even within the same site. If we redirect all the 5411 pages to one OOP page, will this eliminate this duplicate content issue? The OOP page would explain that the title they were looking for is no longer available but that it might be available as a digital download.
