Can I calculate "Keyword Difficulty" metric using Mozscape API data?
-
We already have a web application that pulls certain metrics about websites using the Mozscape API, but we are wanting to extend the usefulness of this application to enable users of the app to pull "Keyword Difficulty" metrics in bulk, instead of one at a time (or 5 at a time).
I wouldn't mind the 5 at a time limitation if we could just automate the API calls and let the tool pull data for 50 or so keywords without user-interaction.
I know that it's a "formula", but I don't know what SEOMoz uses for it's formula.
Has anyone figured out a way to calculate this, based on the Mozscape API data? Has anyone ever tried to reverse engineer this metric?

Absolutely! Wow. I'd pay for that. Good luck on the project!

Unfortunately, the web app is still in development and not available for public use yet. The database is shared, so anyone on the app would be seeing everyone else's data... You can probably see the problem with this.
In the end, we will make it capable of handling multiple users, but it's not there yet. As far as the keyword difficulty, there is no API call to pull this metric so we are wanting to reverse engineer it.
Jesse, we are like you... We can (most of the time) estimate keyword difficulty, based on various metrics, domain age, title tags, on-page keyword density, etc. But, we were wondering if anyone has effectively automated this in such a way that keywords could be "graded" in bulk. Once we can do that... Wow.

What is your web application? I'd love to try it out. It sounds fantastic.
I've used the mozscap API a bit for research projects but I don't believe 'keyword difficulty' is an available datapoint. I haven't had any success trying to scale the usage of the keyword difficulty metric to large lists of keywords.
So I did try to create my own metric using the API. I basically would importXML the serp results for the keyword then run the resulting URL's against the API to return things like DA, title tag, etc. From these I built a simple algorithm to judge the difficulty of the keyword.
I'm no developer so the result was a rather cumbersome excel file. But I could get a sense of keyword difficulty en masse this way. In the end I decided that is better to simply narrow my keyword list down and then run it manually through the keyword difficulty tool (5 at time, ugh!).

Keyword cannibalization
Hello - We have a blog that ranks for 124 different keywords (URL: https://www.clickboarding.com/18-jaw-dropping-onboarding-stats-you-need-to-know/), and it's cannibalizing other keywords that I'm writing blogs specifically for. For example, the blog mentioned above ranks for "employee onboarding process," and I have a different blog I wrote with "employee onboarding process" as the focus keyword that's not ranking at all. Any suggestions or insight is hugely appreciated! Julie K.

What search engines does SEOMoz pull the SERP data from on the keyword analysis report?
I did a Google search and I noticed that some of the rankings that pulled up did not match the SEOmoz top 1-10 competitors. I was sure not to include personal results. I was completely signed out of my Google account. Another one of the SEO tools showed the same result as when I did the Google search, completely different from SEOmoz's report. I am curious to know where the data comes from, so I can accurately compare/ contrast the varying results.

Not provided Data in SEOMoz reports
Hi How do SeoMoz reports deal with 'not provided' data I see my total visits from organic search for a month are same as total of both my branded and non branded keyword traffic combined yet GA is reporting 157 visits from non provided data so is SEOMoz being very clever and finding a way to decipher this not provided data and allocate it accordingly in the reports ? Or if not what ? Many Thanks Dan

Using this domain, we will be unable to crawl your site or present accurate SERP information." Can someone please tell me what I need to do on my site to make this work? I haven't seen this before and have done many other campaigns. Thanks a lot!0 -
SEO Yoast data export
Just thought I would give something back. (Is this the right place!) I use Wordpress with the excellent SEO Yoast plugin. I needed a way of extracting the focus keywords that I have entered onto my pages along with the url for use on the SEOmoz On-page Optimisation tool. So I created GetYoastData which outputs to the browser the required data (and a bit more) that can be saved into an csv (Excel) file. Hope you find it useful - Yes it's not polished and yes it might output a blank line now and again but it's fairly useful. http://deanandrews.uk/get-yoast-seo-data/

How to get the total external links to a page and total external links to the domain using Mozscape API? I could not see an option in the bit flags
Hi, I was trying to get the data for total external links to a page and total external links to the domain using Mozscape API but I can't see a bit flag which can do that. There are bit flags for external followed links to a page and external followed links to a domain but I wanted the total external links data, is there a way to do that using Mozscape API else I would end up copying the data manually from OSE which would be cumbersome and time consuming. Your help is highly appreciated.

"Rank Tracker Tool" is not agreeing with "Keyword Difficulty Tool"
I usually don't sweat a lot for ranks and such but last couple of days, our rankings have been moving drastically. 'Rank Tracker' shows 1st position for many keywords and the "keyword difficulty tool" shows 2nd and 3rd positions. Is is just me or this is a common thing?
