Is having a sitemap.xml file still beneficial?
-
Hi,
I'm pretty new to SEO and something I've noticed is that a lot of things become relevant and irrelevant like the weather.
I was just wondering if having a sitemap.xml file for Google's use is still a good idea and beneficial?
Logically thinking, my websites would get crawled faster by having one.
Cheers.

It's worth looking at the Webinar video on Sitemaps for this one. It's just a month old so it's completely up to date.

Sitemaps aren't just a case listing every page on your site anymore, they require a bit of thought and attention.

Absolutely relevant, infact i'd say essential.
A great article posted on the site already here: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/xml-sitemaps-guidelines-on-their-use

Removing CSS & JS Files from Index
Hi, Google has indexed a few .CSS and .JS files that belong to our WordPress plugins and themes. I had them blocked via robots, but realized this doesn't prevent indexation (and can likely hurt us since Google wants to access these files). I've since removed the robots instructions, submitted a removal request via Search Console, but want to make sure they don't come back. Is there a way to put a noindex tag within .CSS and .JS files? Or should I do something with .htaccess instead?

I need an XML sitemap expert for 5 minutes!
Hi all! I'm hoping that someone with a lot of experience with XML sitemaps can help me out here... When submitting my sitemap in Google Webmaster Tools, these are the results:
Technical SEO | | IcanAgency
2,414,714 Submitted
34,721 Indexed And there's also tonnes of warnings. Would anyone be able to take a quick look at these sitemaps to perhaps advise me on what's going wrong there? These do not load without the www, not sure if this is an issue? http://www.eumom.ie/sitemap.xml

When to file a Reconsideration Request
Hi all, I don't have any manual penalties from Google but do have a unnatural links message from them back in 2012. We have removed some of the spammy links over the last 2 years but we're now making a further effort and will use the disavow tool once we've done this. Will this be enough once I submit the file or should I / can I submit a Reconsideration Request as well? Do I have to have a manual penalty item in my webmaster account to be able to submit a request? Thanks everyone!

Wordpress multilanguage sitemaps
Hi, I have a multilingual wordpress site. which is in Bulgarian and English - translated using qtranslate. The xml sitemap of the 2 languages is in one sitemap file- all the links for the Bulgarian and English version are in one file. (Our web is using this plugin - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-xml-sitemaps-v3-for-qtranslate Do you have any idea how can I make separate xml sitemap for every language? I ask you here because may be you have identical problems with your multilanguage wordpress website. You can see the sitemap with 2 languages links in one sitemap here: http://cholakovit.com/ sitemap.xml Cholakov IT I have read from this article that it is better practise and also it will help with geo-targetazing your web site: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/multiple-xml-sitemaps-increased-indexation-and-traffic

How to Submit XML Site Map with more than 300 Subdomains?
Hi,
Technical SEO | | vaibhav45
I am creating sitemaps for site which has more than 500 Sub domains. Page varies from 20 to 500 in all subdomains & it will keep on adding in coming months. I have seen sites that create separate sitemap.xml for each subdomain which they mention in separate robots.txt file http://windows7.iyogi.com/robots.txt XML site map eg for subdomain: http://windows7.iyogi.com/sitemap.xml.gz , Currently in my website we have only 1 robots.txt file for main domain & sub domains. Please tell me shall i create separate robots.txt & XML site map file for each subdomain or 1 file. Creating separate xml for each sub-domain is not feasible as we have to verify in GWT separately. Is there any automatic way & do i have to ping separately if i add new pages in subdomain. Please advise me.0
