Does Google Places pick up interior pages?

For example, we have optimized all of a clients interior pages to the point where it is competing with some of their competitors main pages. Unfortunately, they do not show up on most of the Google Places keywords. Their competition, who are lower than them organically, automatically show up in Google Places while they do not show up at all. Organically they are 2nd or 3rd in most of their keywords, but no one near the top in Google Places.

Have you obtained local citation type links? Links that come from other sites and directories with similar or the same geographic location signals on them? They're vital. Also, have you obtained a wide variety of links pointing to your internal pages?
And how well optimized is your site compared to the others showing up? Have you created a sweet spot chart to compare your site to theirs? For example - how many pages does your site have for "renovations" compared to those competitors? Even though Place page ranking has rules unique to Place pages, these optimization factors are still important.

Everything looks good! Just make sure when you submit to UBL.org you have the same address, phone number, information, etc. This will get you better results, because from Google standpoint if a bunch of local sites/directories are all giving the same information about a business, it must be true (so they will give you better rankings).

Google Places has a very different algorithm compared to the organic Google Search algorithm. For Google Places, you will be optimizing their one Google Places page to get it to show up in the search results. The two main driving factors are reviews and citations, but I will go over an overview of the rough process you should do for them.
Quick definition of Citation: A listing in a local directory, online yellow pages, etc.
The Process
1. Claim and fill out or have them fill out their Google Places page COMPLETELY. Add descriptions, pictures, videos, EVERYTHING.
2. Have them proactively collecting (hand written) reviews so you can distribute them later on.
3. Go to UBL.org (Universal Business Listing) and purchase just the simple/basic package for them. TIP: Being a pro member of SEOmoz you have a group discount code that will give you great deals and instead of the basic package costing $39, it'll only cost $23. When registering at UBL.org use the code: seomoz2212. That's a great deal for you. The reason for this, is it will give you some nice citations all across the internet over the course of several weeks.
4. Collect the reviews from the client. At this point, you should be a few weeks in with the citations and you will be able to start posting reviews (DON'T EVER PUT THEM ON THE GOOGLE PLACES PAGE).
5. You will start posting reviews on the places with the citations (Yelp, Superpages, InfoUSA, etc.). How you will do this is, first scan your image and then post it to a place like Posterous.
6. Go to one of the places where your business has a citation and register an account, (on behalf of the client) and then post the transcribed review on the site with a link back to the original written review, that you posted on Posterous.
That's rough the process. Now we are posting on the citation locations because Google syndicates that to the Google Places page.

Targeted keywords for landing pages but keyword has a lot of synonyms, how is the best way to approach this?
I'm trying to target one page for one broad 2 word keyword, however, because our niche revolves around this keyword and it's synonyms, the keyword is used on every other page, thus creating the issue of non-targeted pages taking the rank instead of targeted page. I've thought of using synonyms on each page, so that no one page uses the same keyword, but felt this could be seen as spammy or could just hurt overall relevancy towards the main keyword, thus a loss of rank. I understand page authority also plays a part, but also seems that every page other than the page I want get's targeted.

How to determine if you have same site pages competing for rankings?
One of my client's sells career assessment tests / personality tests. The site includes a shop with detailed product pages for the tests and also has lengthy informational pages describing the science behind the different tests, etc as they are pretty indepth and hard to understand for someone who is new to them. The site also includes a blog that has 500 or more posts, all career related... some of them referencing products. My concern is: We'd like the product or information pages to rank for SERPs. Some of the blog posts are ranking instead for their top target keywords. My question is: Is there an easy way to determine which pages on a site are competing for the same keyword? And what is the best way to correct this issue and ensure the correct page gets targeted? I was thinking adding a noindex to the pages would be the best way. Advice is greatly appreciated!

Does my website have a bad rank in google because EMD or lack content ?
Hello, I'm a beginner I just started my website xxx a few days ago. I submitted my url to several good quality directories (about 20, the last 3 days), I tried to write different descriptions for each directory. I have a very bad rank on google results (28+) for keywords "psychologue montluçon" I don't know if it's because of : lack of content, EMD, lack of backlinks (I submitted my website to directories, but its seems it takes a lot of time for updates). My question, alot of the content for these keywords would be similar for example - "how to get a flat stomach", "how to lose love handles" and "how to get skinny" would pretty much have similar content. I could build a single page for all these keywords but i loose all the ranking benefits from doing on-page optimization such as creating a page for each of these keywords and optimizing it for each of these keywords (e.g. putting the keyword in the URL and Title) But if i build individual pages, to me it doesn't look natural optimizing multiple pages for the keyword terms, plus i loose the benefits of building a single page (e.g. less costly, not as much outreach activity required, etc) You could argue however that if you create individual pages for each of these keywords you are addressing the query directly as theres a slight difference between "how to lose love handles and how to get a flat stomach. How advanced is Google synonym recognition?
Hi all. I am currently helping a company that offers training courses and was wandering if Google would recognize 'Training' as a synonym of 'Course' as effectively they both mean the same thing but seemed to be compounded? So instead in my keywords/title etc.having. Business Training Course I could get away with only Business Training OR Business Course. In most cases the keyword difficulty for training is a 5% harder than course but as this is for a professional company and not a standard academic I felt training seemed more appropriate.
