How to properly remove 404 errors
-
Hi,
According to seomoz report I have two 404 errors on my site. (http://screencast.com/t/2FG8fA1dvGB) I removed them from google webmasters central about 2 weeks ago (http://screencast.com/t/MQ8XBvrFm ) , but they're still showing as an error in the next report (weekly update).
Is there anything else you do about 404 or just remove urls through gwc? Or maybe seomoz data is delayed?
Thanks in advance,
JJ

@Irving, George
Thanks for your responses. I had no access to my laptop and for some reason couldn't post my reply from Galaxy s2. I stop losing my sleep over it:)

Don't even worry about it, just make sure they aren't broken links still on your site. Two 404's is nothing to lose a wink of sleep over. If you fixed the dread links they'll phase out of reports

I'm thinking the data might just be delayed. Here's a page with some information regarding link analysis: http://www.seomoz.org/help/link-analysis.
There's an FAQ on the page that reads as follows:
How often is the link analysis data updated? Your link analysis data is pulled directly from the SEOmoz Mozscape index which updates every 3-4 weeks.
If you've removed the links through Google Webmaster Tools you should be OK. You will want to make sure you aren't still linking to those URLs of course.
Hope this helps!

Google Search Console Showing 404 errors for product pages not in sitemap?
We have some products with url changes over the past several months. Google is showing these as having 404 errors even though they are not in sitemap (sitemap shows the correct NEW url). Is this expected? Will these errors eventually go away/stop being monitored by Google?

Hundreds of 404 errors are showing up for pages that never existed
For our site, Google is suddenly reporting hundreds of 404 errors, but the pages they are reporting never existed. The links Google shows are clearly spam style, but the website hasn't been hacked. This happened a few weeks ago, and after a couple days they disappeared from WMT. What's the deal? Screen-Shot-2016-02-29-at-9.35.18-AM.png

I have consolidated my subdomains into subfolders; should i remove the subdomains also?
Hi, I have consolidated my website's many sub-domains into sub-folders. We had ~20 sub-domains. The sub-domains and the root domain shared the same code-base and sub-domain specific features were controlled using Apache's SetEnv directive in the httpd.conf includes. Now they are consolidated. I have redirected all of the sub-domains to the relevant sub-folder; so http://sub1.mysite.com now 301 redirects to http://www.mysite.com/sub1.The redirects happen in the htaccess file and all sub-domains and the root are still pointing to the same code-base. However, the Moz campaign tracker still occasionally tells me that i have optimisation opportunities at http://sub1.mysite.com and in both Bing and Google webmaster tools traffic to those sub-domains is mentioned. Should i delete the subdomains? Cheers

Noticed a lot of duplicate content errors...
how do I fix duplicate content errors on categories and tags? I am trying to get rid of all the duplicate content and I'm really not sure how to. Any suggestions, advice and/or help on this would be greatly appreciated. I did add the canonical url through the SEO Yoast plugin, but I am still seeing errors. I did this on over 200 pages. Thanks for any assistance in advance. Jaime

Webmaster Tools 404 Errors Pages Never Created
Recently, 196 404 errors appeared in my WMT account for pages that were never created on my site. Question: Any thoughts on how they got there (i.e. WMT bug, tactic by competitor)? Question: Thoughts on impact if any? Question: Thoughts on resolution?
