Ideas for formal (prom) suit & dress giveaway contest
-
Hi fellow Mozzers,
I'm hoping to do a bit of brainstorming if you don't mind helping out. We've never done a contest for our clients before, so want some ideas on how to get the most out of it.
In Australia it is coming up to formal (Prom) time, and our client sells boys suits and girls formal dresses, so I figured it was a great time for a contest. It's a brand new SEO client, so it's quite late notice...the competition can only go for about 3 weeks because most of the school formals are around late November, early December. (Not ideal I know)
The client is willing to give away one free suit, and one free dress, and I want to brainstorm some ideas on the format of the contest, e.g. what should people have to do to enter the draw?
Avenues we plan to promote are: Facebook (they have 600 likers), Twitter (currently not many followers), I'm thinking Australian mummy bloggers, free contest listing websites, email database. Any other ideas for promotion?
The goal for the contest is to increase brand exposure, and to attract lots of links.
Looking forward to hearing your suggestions.
Thanks,
Karl

Thanks for getting things rolling Daniel!
Sorry, I didn't explain..."how should people win" is one of the things I want to brainstorm. whether they win based on a judges decision, or a random draw is something that we can figure out when we know what the contest involves.
The client is giving away a suit and a dress forever and ever. Also I should have mentioned. they don't have a bricks and mortar store, they're an online-based store.
I like your ideas! They will help to get a bit more engagement, which is what we're after here
And yes, what a past you do have!

But how do contestants win? Is it just a random draw? Why limit yourself to that?
Perhaps give bonus entries for people who send in pictures of themselves dressing formally for everyday occasions:
-
going to the supermarket
-
walking the dog
-
going to school
-
running a race
-
going to the beach
-
gardening
-
bar-b-cueing
-
playing cricket
And offer double bonus entries for people who send in videos.
I presume it's the Mums and Dads who pay for the suits and dresses, so try to think of things that appeal to them as well.
What exactly is your client giving away : a rental or the actual suit and dress to keep, forever and ever? If it's a keeper, perhaps pitch the idea of how handy the suits and dresses will be even after the formal. This is, of course, false and ridiculous -- but you could have a lot of fun with it.
And don't forget the offline component: maybe coupons in the stores promoting the contest and offering refunds to people who have already bought, if they send it pics.
Ideally, you would come up with a viral way of sharing and promoting through mainstream media. If you have great pics, this could appeal to the mainstream media on a slow news day.

Sometimes I write a post for another site and then post the first 1/3rd on my site to help promote it. Is this a bad idea? When I do that should I be adding a canonical link to the original post? Should I have /make sure the 3rd party site does something? Is there anything else I should do? Thanks in advance.

Ecommerce & Outreach
Hey, Does anyone have any advice on how to approach outreach for an ecommerce site? We're in the process of doing user guides, for niche products. I wondered if this was a good angle to approach relevant communities/sites. Or is this too time consuming for little value at the end? Is it PR outreach we should look to focus on? Thank you 🙂

Difference Between Authorship & Publishership?
I am working for a business and I would like my Google+ posts to show the business picture/information and not my own. Does this mean I would leave authorship blank and use a rel=publisher tag instead? Or is it bette rto do both? I don't really know much about the subject so feel free to let the schooling begin!

Rebranding & Minimizing SEO impact
Hello everyone, One of my clients is undergoing a major rebrand, which will require some substantial changes to their domain / URL structure. Primarily, we're going to: Move from a high-ish DA site to a low DA site Change the subdomain URL structure (more on that below) Update the content (copy, design, structure) on www. site to match the new brand The content on the subdomains should remain the same 301 redirect all pages from old site to new site where applicable The current site architecture makes great use of subdomains, which are also going to be changing in terms of name. So, we're moving from oldsubdomain.olddomain.com to newsubdomain.newdomain.com (and not oldsubdomian.olddomain.com to oldsubdomain.olddomain.com). The content / structure of these pages is going to change minimally. We understand that we're going to take an SEO hit overall, but are there things we can do to minimize this hit? Anyway we can 'estimate' the hit? Anyway we can educate our client to as to what to expect beyond (it is going to be bad…). Please let me know. Thanks!

Googe+ personal profile & business page conundrum
I have asked this question before and am still seeking help. My apologies for being repetitive and hopefully not too pesky but I am sincere in my search for guidance. I am looking for advice on how to manage my personal G+ profile along with my business G+ page. My challenge is the coordination between the two and getting people to add our biz page to their Circles instead of to me personally through my personal profile. Google+ requires that we have personal profiles- especially for authorship, but it's my business that I want to represent and promote. I do have the Google+ badge on my website and blog posts. And I am duplicating my posts on both the personal and business pages. I have joined a couple of communities and know that i need to find more and engage in those. And also, another question this brings up: in terms of the social signal aspect for our company website/blog, does it matter where I am building my Circles?

Video Creation Ideas On A Budget
I am trying to help a friend add quality content to their site. It's been determined that video is a great medium for much of it. However, their budget and time is limited. Here are some ideas I've had so far and comments on each. Outsource to a budget production company Pros: $500/min or less (I hope), time saving Cons: Quality, possibly boring Sock Puppets Pros: Doable in-house, creative and engaging, multiple characters possible for a conversation rather than 1 actor Cons: Does not fit the corporate theme/feel of the site GoAnimate Cartoon Animations Pros: Doable in-house or hired creator at $500/min or less, creative and engaging, multiple characters possible for a conversation rather than 1 actor Cons: Off-limits, as this is being utilized by a subsidiary partner site that we need to differentiate from Slideshow Video Pros: Doable in-house, no actors required Cons: Possibly boring, only suitable for certain topics Does anyone have any additional ideas to throw out there or comments on how to implement the above in a suitable way for this corporate site?

What is the correlation between Organic & PPC CTR?
I'm interested in finding research / studies on the correlation between organic and PPC CTR. I've heard panelists at Search Engine Strategies conferences cite research stating that simultaneously ranking organically and serving PPC ads for the same KW increases the chance of getting click-throughs (versus being in organic OR PPC space only). I think, but I'm not sure, that it might have been a comScore study but I haven't been able to find it on their site. Is anyone familiar with this study (or a similar study)? If so, please point me in the right direction and include a link, if possible. Thanks in advance for your help!
