Site unaffected by algo changes until this month- why?
-
I had 2 websites. One of these I trashed as it took a pretty big hit from Panda and was virtually wiped out by Penguin. The other site is over 4 years old and until this month had miraculously remained unaffected by all the changes. In fact, my traffic this October was better than it had ever been. This month my traffic is way, way down. I don't know if this is related to the hurricane (my business is in NYC) or if it is just a factor that web traffic to any site can fluctuate considerably from month to month, or if there is a more insiduous reason. Most of my links are directory links, including some good ones like DMOZ and BOTW , and the most high quality directories I could find. The site is www.affordable-uncontested-divorce.com. . Does anyone have any ideas?
thx
Paul

Does anyone have any ideas?
You can do the most important research yourself.
You lost traffic. So ask yourself....
What traffic sources are lower now? What rankings are lower?
What specific information can you get yourself from analytics and watching your rankings?
We can only guess because we have no information about the history of your site nor do we have access to your data.

Hi Paul,
Do you have year over year data in analytics so you can compare Nov performance this year to last year. It might be seasonal or perhaps an over optimization penalty for the keyword "uncontested divorce". I see it used on the page 7-8 times. Wait till next month and if the drop in traffic continues then you may have suffered the penalty. Try redoing the on site elements and reduce the keyword density. Hopefully that works.

Change of content
Hello, When you do a major change of content on a page I know it takes time to start seeing some results in terms of ranking. Let's say I make a change today expecting to see the first results of that change 2 months from now. Let's say in a month I decide to add some content and make again some minor changes. Do I have to wait another 2 months starting on the date I made my 2 nd changes to see some results or will I see the results of the 1 change as originally planned 2 months after my major content change ? Thank you,

Linking to one of my own sites, from my site
Hi experts, I own a site for castingjobs (Site1) and a site for selling paintings (Site2). In a long time, I've had a link at the bottom of Site1, linking to Site 2. (Basicaly: Partnerlink: Link site 2). Site1 is for me the the only important site, since it's where Im making my monthly revenue. I added the link like 5 years ago or so, to try to boost site 2. My question is:

1. Is it somehow bad for SEO for site 1, since the two sites have nothing to do with each other, they are basically just owned by me.
2. Would it make sense to link from Site 2 to Site 1 indstead?0 -
Recovering from a site migration
Hi. I've been working on http://www.alwayshobbies.com/ for a number of months. All was fine, but then we had a site migration which involved a huge number of redirects. There's been a couple of similar moves in the past. As a result, rankings have plummeted. To resolve this, we're considering letting all the old pages 404 by turning of the redirects, and removing all links to them where we can. Some key pages could have canonicals added, but basically we're looking to purge as much as possible. Does this sound like a reasonable tactic?

Site changes lead to big questions
I'm making some changes to my business that will cause me to move my blog to a new domain. The existing site will serve as a sales campaign for our full service programs and I want to keep visitors focused on that campaign. The old site will serve much like a mini site with a sales letter and video sales letter. In moving the blog content to another page - I found a post from Rand from a few years ago http://www.seomoz.org/blog/expectations-and-best-practices-for-moving-to-or-launching-a-new-domain. The way I wanted to approach this was to remove the content from the old site, and then resubmit the site map to Google for indexing. Of course they'll notice that the blog pages are gone. (probably a load of 404's) After perhaps a week, I'd repost the content (about 50 posts) on the new domain, which will be little more than a blog. I'd like some input on the way to approach this. Should I... a) Follow Rand's formula? b) Go with my idea (sort of the brute force model)? c) Consider an alternative method? It's probably worth mentioning that none of these posts have high search engine rankings. I appreciate your input Mozzers!

What on-page/site optimization techniques can I utilize to improve this site (http://www.paradisus.com/)?
I use a Search Engine Spider Simulator to analyze the homepage and I think my client is using black hat tactics such as cloaking. Am I right? Any recommendations on to improve the top navigation under Resorts pull down. Each of the 6 resorts listed are all part of the Paradisus brand, but each resort has their own sub domain.
