If website.com links to website.com/utilities
Does website.com/utilities/business.html pagerank get benefited from this?
The reason I ask is, I have the option to have:
1) website.com/utilities/business.html
or
2) website.com/utilities-business
My boss says would like to keep the first example and link directory to subdirectory --> File.
I prefer the second example because the potential traffic in it is a source of revenue and I want it to get linkpower from homepage directly.
So, unless linkjuice is transfered horizontally across subdirectories, 2) would be better SEO-wise, is this correct?
Thanks a lot.

Hi Jorge,
Good question! If I understand correctly, you have a choice between two file structures - is that right? Using option 1, is there anything that would actually live on website.com/utilities/, or is it simply a URL directory with no actual webpage?
If this is the case, both option 1 and 2 would pass the same amount of link juice, assuming you linked directly to each target. That said, it's usually desirable to have:
- A flat architecture - meaning you keep your structure as flat as possible using the fewest amount of directories as possible
- Shorter URLs are generally correlated to better rankings and click-through rates.
For this reason, if you are linking directly to each target, I would chose the second option if possible, although the difference it makes probably isn't that great.
Hope this helps! Best of luck with your SEOl

Hi Jorge,
Option 1 would be good if you have a lot of sub pages that can be classified under the "utilities" section. This would also help the search engines to index and classify your site pages better also benefitting you on the SEO side
Option 2 would be recommended if you don't have a lot of content that can be classified under "utilities"
Think about the user first and what would be benefit them. To directly answer your question, in my opinion , the closer the link to the home page the better it would be from an SEO perspective.

Same URL for languages sub-directories
Hi All, I have a main domain and 9 different subdirectories for languages, example: www.example.com/page.html www.example.com/uk/page-uk.html www.example.com/es/page-es.html we are implementing hreflang tags for the languages, but we are thinking to get rid of the dashes on the languages URL: -uk or -es, so it will be: www.example.com/page.html www.example.com/uk/page.html www.example.com/es/page.hrml would this be a problem? to have same page names even if they are in different subdirectories? would we need to add canonical tags, at lease for the main domain URLs? www.kornferry.com/page.html Thank you, Rachel

How to handle outdated products/pages?
Hi, I wonder how I should handle pages with outdated products. Our market is changing rapidly unfortunately so products we offered in the past are no longer existent. So for example one of our product was called "PRODUCT 1" The URL for this product is still:
Technical SEO | | bastelele
www.mydomain.com/product-1/ with different subpages about the product like:
www.mydomain.com/product-1/about/
www.mydomain.com/product-1/howto/
www.mydomain.com/product-1/pricing/
www.mydomain.com/product-1/whatever/ Our new product is totally different from the first one. Is it still a good idea to set up 301 redirects or are there any other ideas? Thanks in advance

Fixing Duplicate Pages Titles/Content
I have a DNN site, which I created friendly URL's for; however, the creation of the friendly URL's then created duplicate page content and titles. I was able to fix all but two URL's with rel="canonical" links. BUT The two that are giving me the most issues are pointing to my homepage. When I added the rel = "canonical" link the page then becomes not indexable. And for whatever reason, I can't add a 301 redirect to the homepage because it then gives me "can't display webpage" error message. I am new to SEO and to DNN, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Moving a blog from unique domain to root /blog/ but on 2 different servers? HELP!
I have a main site hosted on one server, I have the blog hosted on another server - BOTH of which my team has FULL control over. I ultimately want the blog to reside on the root domain: www.mysite.com/blog/ My network team is saying "DNS will not allow this to happen, the resolution will ultimately have to be on blog.website.com" Has anyone out there done this? Is it even possible? HELP!
