4 websites on same IP crosslinking in footer
-
Hello, we have 3 separate websites and domains.
Industry directory websites
Industrialdomain.com DA:62, 8yrs old
Medicaldomain.com DA:45, 8yrs old
and
Hosptalitydomain.com DA:24, 1yr old
These sites are cross linked site-wide via footer links and the sites flow a substantial amount of well converting traffic between each other.
How does Google see this? Could we place the links in a better position than the footer?
The links should be site-wide as we receive many deep visits to these sites from organic and PPC sources.
Our traffic is down 20% post penguin, we are going through the backlinks now and weeding out some iffy links but the site has never been forum spammed or anything even close to that.
One other thing is that they are linked to with anchor text type links
For example,
Hospitality Equipment
Medical Supplies & Devices
Industrial DirectoryIt may be best to start of just linking with an image.

Hi Jeremy,
Most of the time folks use inbred footer links for nefarious purposes, so Google generally tends to look down on these types of links and devalue them.
In your case however, it seems you actually have a use for them as they bring you a good amount of relevant traffic to your various sites.
But you have to be careful. Footer links generally carry very little value and cause more potential harm than good. And as you noted, sitewide anchor text (especially in the footer!) can get you in trouble in a Penguin kind of way.
The good news is 3 sites isn't a lot, and it's possible you haven't tripped any penalty filters.
I do like your idea about changing up the anchor text. Do you rank for those terms? If so, have you seen a drop or rise in the past year? It may be beneficial to experiment with images and less commercial anchor text.
Seems like your on the right track. Let us know how it goes!

Yeah it looks wrong to me having anchor text there...
Im also going to go through the site and remove any other anchor text type links

Headers & Footers Count As Duplicate Content
I've read a lot of information about duplicate content across web pages and was interested in finding out about how that affected the header and footer of a website. A lot of my pages have a good amount of content, but there are some shorter articles on my website. Since my website has a header, footer, and sidebar that are static, could that hurt my ranking? My only concern is that sometimes there's more content in the header/footer/sidebar than the article itself since I have an extensive amount of navigation. Is there a way to define to Google what the header and footer is so that they don't consider it to be duplicate content?

My beta site (beta.website.com) has been inadvertently indexed. Its cached pages are taking traffic away from our real website (website.com). Should I just "NO INDEX" the entire beta site and if so, what's the best way to do this? Please advise.

Hey guys, A site that I'm currently working on as different domains for each website language. So for example: word1word2.com for the english version word3word4.com for the french version word5word6.com for spanish version .... Is it better to move all of the different languages to the same domain and use subfolders for each language /fr/... Please note that the domains being used bring in organic traffic as well as they are EMDs. Thank You.

Links into website that are unnatural - a paid article
I prepared an article for another related website and posted it on my website - http://www.gardenbeet.com/garden_design_blog/garden-ideas/save-money-and-create-diversity-seeds-and-small-plants-are-better/ I was paid to write an article and provided a link to the related website at the end of the article - I declared the payment a good 10 months later the page where the article sits has become the 2nd most linked to page on my website - SEOmoz is giving it a Page Authority of 48 and all the links are coming from a wide variety of forums using one anchor text link phrase in the latest google update my homepage PR dropped by 1 - I am assuming the penalty came because of this article is it worth changing the URL to remove these spammy links to my website?
