Add Expires Headers
-
I noticed recommendations from yslow on "add expires headers" but they refer to sites that plug into mine (such as a you tube video). Can anything be done about this recommendation?
-
Nope
Neither YSlow nor PageSpeed are able to differentiate third-party content from your own hosted content in their reports. So they're giving optimisation recommendations you can't possibly implement because you don't control those external servers/code. Just ignore recommendation on any URLs you don't control.
The one exception to this is when the report mentions external JavaScript that could be moved to footers, or could be asynchronous. In those cases, do try to follow the recommendations where possible.
Remember, these are automated reports based on a standard set of rules. You must interpret them using common sense for your own specific site and circumstances - they're not gospel.

Should I add canonical links to pages that are redirected?
Hello! I am a little confused concerning canonical links. I have several URLs that all access my page, but I redirect them all. A lot of places I am told to redirect them or use canonicals. Other places, I read that I should always use canonicals. What is the right way for me? If I should use canonicals as well as redirects, which links should I do this on? I redirect my pages like this: http to https:

How to add meta descriptions in WordPress
Hello, I have a WordPress website in which the front page is built entirely with text widgets. How would I add key words and meta descriptions. Yoast does not give an option for this and it seems WordPress does not support meta descriptions. Anyone have ideas? The website is championfitprogram.com

Best practice for a website where the publications (catalogues) expire frequently
Hi guys, Hope to find some smart SEOs around here and where I can to contribute to the community! I wanted to share an issue we are having with our website, which is focused on the promotional flyers of the supermarket chains. These are often valid for a short period of time and then expire. So it makes no sense to keep them but also, if we delete them, that would create a lot of 404s or something. So how do you think it is the best way to go around this problem? should we delete them? or when deleted to redirect the dead pages to the homepage? or keep them in an archive live site.com/brand/archive/ ? Thank you so much for any opinions, much appreciated! Best

Better to update or add articles?
Hi, We have an online gift store and we write new blogs every year. Question is, if we already had a blog that's called 'Top Valentine Gifts' from last year, should we update the blog content with the most updated data, or should we add a new blog called 'Top Valentine Gifts 2012' and rename the old one to 'Top Valentine Gifts 2011' (and 301 redirect the old URL)? Which one is more beneficial in terms of SEO?

# hidden by the header?
Can someone please clarify whether hiding tags behind the image header is an accepted best practice or is frowned upon by Google? I was doing some competitive analysis and noticed some websites were doing it, but it certainly wasn't egregious.
