Has anyone used a company to help promote their site
-
Hi, i receive around ten emails a day claiming they can help you get your site in the top ten in google, now i know most are a load of rubbish but i am just wondering if anyone has used any of these companies for a new site or an old site.
I am about to launch a new site after xmas and i am just wondering if any of these companies are worth looking at to help promote the new site instead of doing all the ground work myself.
Would love to know your thoughts

_Though email marketing is a legitimate way to reach out to potential customers, spamming inboxes of people in the sheer hope of getting them converted as customer is the height of stupidity. If you would ask my humble opinion, I would not care a fig of them. They are just another bunch of spammers and what I feel is that spammers are not doers. _

Diane, I would honestly spend the money hiring one of the many consultants posting on SEOmoz and around other prominent SEO circles.
When you are looking to hire, ask for past examples, full transparency in what they are doing and develop a list of goals.
I'm not sure what your budget is, but SEOmoz has a list of recommend companies. These would generally be on the upper end of the $ scale, but you may be able to afford that.
Also - learn the basics of SEO yourself. You'll get a better understanding of what you need to do for your site and if consultants/companies are ripping you off.
Hope this helps!

cheers for that. i will keep away from them. was just wondering if anyone had any experience with them. so now i know i will keep away. it was just for a new site

I would shy away from all of this. Typically they are more of the black hat type companies who are trying to get a ton of clients at low cost and claim to get you results. When in fact they will do more damage than good.
If you are looking to get SEO help, I would suggest either looking on here for an SEO to ask if they could take a look or check out the link SEO 5 links to.

Hi Diane,
My recommendation would be to do your due diligence. I would suggest asking for case studies, references and testimonials from existing clients.
Rand has a great post on this link on factors to consider when choosing an SEO company

Why are these blackhat sites so successful?
Here's an interesting conundrum. Here are three sites with their respective ranking for "dental implants [city]:" http://dentalimplantsvaughan.ca - 9 (on google.ca) http://dentalimplantsinhonoluluhi.com - 2 (on google.com) http://dentalimplantssurreybc.ca - 7 (on google.ca) These markets are not particularly competitive, however, all of these sites suffer from: Duplicate content, both internally and across sites (all of this company's implant sites have the same exact content, minus the bio pages and the local modifier). Average speed score. No structured data No links And these sites are ranking relatively quickly. The Vaughan site went live 3 months ago. But, what's boggling my mind is that they rank on the first page at all. It seems they're doing the exact opposite of what you're supposed to do, yet they rank relatively well.

Which Web host do you use?
A friend of mine has a successful website which is hosted by the company he used to use for developing his site. As he no longer uses them feels he should use it. Who do you use for hosting a small to medium sized business?

Anyone using Adobe Business Catalyst and Fixing SEO URL Blog Updates?
Does anyone else have experience with the current update Adobe Business Catalyst has announced for their blog features? Florin at BC offered the code below: http://www.graeagle.com/images/fb_blog_og_img.jpg" /> However nether myself nor another commentator can figure out how to make it work: I added the meta data to my template but it seems the tags are not correct. For example, the tag {tag_blogpostmetatitle} does not automatically include the SEO title that I've called out in my individual blog post. So, it appears the browser is ignoring the tag and just including it as is. When I view the source for my live blog article, this is what I get for the lines that I've added the code in the tag: Also, I cannot get schema metadata to work on the BC blog. For example, I have used it on this page: http://www.homedestination.com/_blog/Real_Estate_Blog/post/things_to_know_before_building_a_new_home/; which yields the following in Google's Rich Snippet Tool: Extracted structured data rdfa-node property: title: {tag_blogpostmetatitle} description:__{tag_blogpostmetadescription}

Does Google think My main keyword is my Company name due to over use in anchor text?
OK, i have recently noticed google is adding a keyword to my titles... I have attached an image which shows the results from a google site:mywebsite search... 8 out of the 10 results on the screen shot clearly have the keyword ( - CCTV Cameras) added to the end of the title. Now a lot of those pages are support pages i.e "Help & Support", "returns" etc etc.. nothing really to do with cctv cameras. The only thing i can think of, is the most common anchor text used on backlinks to my website (according to siteexplorer) is the keyword cctv cameras... (i am currently working on removing a load of the backlinks to my site due to what i think is some kind of google penalty as the anchor text is all keywords etc...) But it seems strange if google has started to discount these backlinks, that it then uses that keyword to add to my titles - unless of course, google thinks that it is my brand name... Any body have any thoughts on this? FqwooQY.gif

How much of an issue is it if a site is somehow connected to a site that was penalized by Google?
I am working with someone that is about to launch a new site, and one of the sites was affected by the Panda update. Does it matter if the two sites are connected? Share the same hosting provider and same Google Webmaster's account?

Does 301 redirecting a site multiple times keep the value of the original site?
Hi, All! If I 301 redirect site www.abc.com to www.def.com, it should pass (almost) all linkjuice, rank, trust, etc. What happens if I then redirect site www.def.com to www.ghi.com? Does the value of the original site pass indefinitely as long as you do the redirects correctly? Or does it start to be devalued at some point? If anyone's had experience redirecting a site more than once and they've seen reportable good/bad/neutral results, that would be very helpful. Thanks in advance! -Aviva B
