Would adding an SSL certificate help my website?
-
SSL certificates can obviously be a used as a ranking factor by Google, but would a site with no need for an SSL certificate notice a gain by adding one?
Is it possible to demonstrate you have an SSL certificate without having some https pages on your site?
-
Google just stated that SSL does have a (small) beneficial effect on SEO. It's official! Don't expect too much of it, though. It's only one ranking factor out of 200+.
-
It all comes back to the rule of focusing your website around users, not search engines. If an SSL certificate is not required for your user experience, then don't use one. Otherwise you'd be doing exactly what Google doesn't want you to do: making a move for the sole purpose of gaining search engine rankings.
-
I would be hard pressed to believe it would have a noticeable effect if any at all. A SSL does give credence that the site owners are actively trying to protect user information, but simply installing one for the sake of rankings seems like a waste.
A side note about sites that have ssl's.. generally a site with an ssl will use robots.txt to prevent certain pages from being crawled like the login or account info pages since these pages have no relevance to search engines. One could make an argument if you have such pages and allow bots to crawl them, in theory they could recognize that you're asking for information and not protecting it. Just a thought, but I do stand behind my original paragraph.
Hope that helps

I've not heard of an SSL certificate being used as a ranking factor by Google. If that's true, I'd like to know more.
Your intent here is disingenuous. Secure socket layers are meant to provide users a layer of protection for whatever services they are using on the site.
Displaying a SSL seal without actually doing so is deceitful to users and should not be condoned.
If your site does not need an SSL, your SEO efforts should be focused elsewhere.

Permalink structure of an excising website
Hey everyone, We have a website - a business directory. It is a large directory with lots of B2B listings. So currently our URL structure for the categories look like this: dispensarystack.com/category/professional-services/ **We want to rank for the KW "dispensary professional services". ** Is it enough that we have the word dispensary in our brand name and in this way in the URL structure or is it better to make the slug: **dispensarystack.com/category/**dispensary-professional-services/ Or even closer to the root of the website: **dispensarystack.com/**dispensary-professional-services/ Thank you for your time and answers!

Joomla Title Help - Plugin?
I am currently working on a site in Joomla (2.5) and continue to run across issues with titles. Currently, the site is set to display the page title just over the content. Turning this off really is not an option, as it is necessary to keep these titles as part of the content. Right now, my page titles are not well optimized. What I would like to have is a separate meta title used for SEO purposes, similar to what a plugin like Yoast would do in WordPress - where there is a name for a page (often used in content as well), but a meta title that is used by Google. Hope that makes sense. If anyone knows of a plugin that may be helpful, that would be great. Thanks!

When i search on "instral.com" in google, it will show my website on first result including homepage. Is there something wrong with the website or DNS settings? Or mabe some other webhosting setting... am i on a blacklist or something? Bing and Yahoo are showing better results (first page). I hope someone can help me out here...

Blog is outranking my root domain - Why and Help
I have an odd question concerning SERP rankings on Google along with PageRank and Google Trust. I have a website created in HTML with a WP blog created in a sub-directory. I am finding that the blog is getting relatively good rankings yet it seems the root domain is not getting any of the rank or trust passed onto it as it consistently is outranked by the blog. In fact, for a few of our targeted keywords the root domain does not even show up at all, yet the blog does. Our blog is #2 in Google SERPs, a top Google Place ranking, a Youtube video in the top 10 and a Google Ad place somewhere in the mix of first page ads. The root domain is nowhere to be found. Is there something I need to correct either on the site, in Google Webmaster or in WP Settings that I am not aware that is pushing all the Google Rank and Trust to the blog instead of the other way around? I considered changing the WP Site URL to the root domain thinking it will pass more SEO mojo to the root. But I don't think this is the way to go. I am kind of at a loss, any help is appreciated.

Video Sitemap Help
MOZ Helpers, Currently our clients videos are hosted on Viemo and that will not change as our client likes the creative/artist vibe and community via Viemo. That being said we need to create a video sitemap. BTW, Our site uses wordpress. When someone in house uploads a video in the future we want them to be able to enter the video title, description, and tags on the video and when they hit "update" the video and information will get added to our video site map. Wistia has this option here http://wistia.com/doc/video-seo , but like I mentioned above our client has all videos via Viemo. I found a Google XML wordpress plugin, but that said it only works for Youtube video's. The Jr. developer is not confident in creating one himself from the Google webmaster instructions and asked me to search for another solution. Check out the attached pic, that is what I am looking for. Is their a plugin or another option where we can use for easy sitemap updating and management for our Viemo videos? Thanks in advance! No bueno!! Here is an example: http://hiphound.com/shop/rubit-dog-tag-clip I thought (and was told) that the installed 301 would send this page to: http://hiphound.com/rubit-dog-tag-clip It's not. Segmenting Website into XML Sitemaps
Hi all, I'm about to begin the process of chopping up a 1,000 page website into separate sitemaps. I'm going for a three tiered approach so that I can check indexation on each level for: Category, Subcategory, Product What's the easiest way to create three separate XML sitemaps for this? Thanks, Nick
