Changing the way SEOmoz Detects Duplicate Content
-
Hey everyone,
I wanted to highlight today's blog post in case you missed it. In short, we're using a different algorithm to detect duplicate pages. http://moz.com/blog/visualizing-duplicate-web-pages
If you see a change in your crawl results and you haven't done anything, this is probably why. Here's more information taken directly from the post:
1. Fewer duplicate page errors: a general decrease in the number of reported duplicate page errors. However, it bears pointing out that:
- **We may still miss some near-duplicates. **Like the current heuristic, only a subset of the near-duplicate pages is reported.
- **Completely identical pages will still be reported. **Two pages that are completely identical will have the same simhash value, and thus a difference of zero as measured by the simhash heuristic. So, all completely identical pages will still be reported.
2. Speed, speed, speed: The simhash heuristic detects duplicates and near-duplicates approximately 30 times faster than the legacy fingerprints code. This means that soon, no crawl will spend more than a day working its way through post-crawl processing, which will facilitate significantly faster delivery of results for large crawls.

That is good news. It will ease some minds that are going nuts over the duplicate content reporting. Thanks!

Duplicate Content & Rel Canonical Tag not working
I'm really questioning the legitimacy of the duplicate content flags with moz. I'm building a website that sells home decor products and a lot of the pages are similar in structure (As would be expected with a store that sells thousands of individual products). It seems a little overkill to me to flag the following pages as duplicate content. They have different urls, titles, h1, h2, and h3 tages, different meta tags, etc. Right now, it's saying that the following have duplicate page content: http://www.countryporchhomedecor.com

It keeps saying that pages with a rel canonical tag are duplicates when some of the urls that it's flagging shouldn't even be indexed because of the canonical tag. Is there a way to get SEOMOZ to not throw an error if i'm using the rel=canonical tag?
There are so many errors (~1500) that I can't find the pages with duplicate content among the ones that are correctly tagged

SEOMoz Software
I want to start off with stating that i am truly an advocate of SEOMoz and the great stuff they have done for the inbound community that we all know and love. I've been an active member since July 2010 and a paying pro member since December 2010. The software has always been monumental in helping my clients achieve their goals. However, in the past few months i have received nothing short of buggy unreliable software. The keyword difficulty tool never returns difficulty results. The Adwords data has been gone since i can remember. The rank tracker tool is successfull close to 1 out of 5 times. OSE is updated terribly slow compared to competitors. Plus, I have had to write emails to get my campaigns to be manually refreshed to see new ranking data. I have simply missed deadlines because my data is always delayed or missing from the software. Am i an anomaly here? does anyone have these problems? I have been researching some new tools as a replacement but i have yet to find anything as robust as the old SEOMoz. I'd love some feedback. Cheers - Kyle

SEOmoz indicating duplicate page content on one of my campaigns
Hello All, Alright, according to SEOmoz's PRO campaign manager, one of my websites is returning about 2,700 pages that supposedly have duplicate content. I checked a few of them manually and am not seeing where the issue lies. Is anyone else experiencing something similar to this and do you know if it is just a glitch with the crawl? Here are 2 of the pages it is indicating have dup page content: http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/c-3120-1994-98-59l-12v-dodge-cummins-carbon-fiber-hoods.aspx http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/c-90-dodge-cummins-94-02-59l-12v24v.aspx Any insight would be greatly appreciated! -Craig

Duplicate Content Issues with WordPress
I'm having some difficulty with a few of the sites I'm managing right now. When I run a report here, I'm getting a duplicate content issue with sites that I'm running through WordPress. Sites running on a different CMS are not getting the issue. The duplicate content is being listed as from two URL's that are identical. I checked trailing slash, spelling, capitalization, everything. It looks like the same site is being marked as two with duplicate content. Does anyone have any ideas of what could be causing this and/or what I may be able to do to resolve the issue (or if it's really something to worry about or not)? Thanks. (and thanks for helping the new guy!)

Why are these pages considered duplicate page content?
A recent crawl diagnostic for a client's website had several new duplicate page content errors. The problem is, I'm not sure where the error comes from since the content in the webpage is different from one another. Here's the pages that SEOMOZ reported to have duplicate page content errors: http://www.imaginet.com.ph/wireless-internet-service-providers-term http://www.imaginet.com.ph/antivirus-term http://www.imaginet.com.ph/berkeley-internet-name-domain http://www.imaginet.com.ph/customer-premises-equipment-term The only thing similar that I see is the headline which says "Glossary Terms Used in this Site" - I hope that the one sentence is the reason for the error. Any input is appreciated as I want to find out the best solution for my client's website errors. Thanks!

Why does SEOMoz Pro only do Rankings Once a Week?
Not sure I understand why the SEOMoz PRO report of rankings only occurs once a week? Any ideas? Seems like it would be easy to just pull that ranking report at any time.
