301 redirect not working
-
I setup a wordpress blog about 6 months ago called Infographic Directory on this URL:
http://infographicdirectory.wordpress.com
and less then a week after I set it up I was #1 on Google for infographic directory and my posts were ranking reasonably well.
Because the blog was quite successful and got nearly quarter of a million visitors in the first few months I decided to take it a bit more seriously and purchased a proper domain name:
http://infographic-directory.com
I set up a proper 301 redirect about 6 weeks ago but my rankings are still terrible - worst then ever. I am getting outranked on Google for infographic directory by my Crunchbase.com listing for the blog name: infographic directory and my blog posts are not showing up in the rankings at all.
Should I just be patient or do you think I might have been hit with a penalty or something?

I would contact the linking pages to change the link to the new URL... That speeds up the process.

When I search for infographic directory, I show your new site at #2 and #3 for the term.
Your 301 redirect is working correctly.
I would change the links that you do control to your new URL. Such as the Crunchbase listing that is currently outranking you for #1.
Make sure your sitemaps are updated.
Consider doing some basic WP SEO and NoIndex your tag pages. You currently have 188 tag pages indexed, which is a bit excessive.
Then, I would give it more time.

When to re-write and redirect a blog url?
What are best practices for rewriting (and then redirecting) blog URLs? I refresh old blog posts on our blog every month and many of them have URLs that are too long or could be improved. However, many of them also already get decent organic traffic and I don't want to lose traffic due to a URL redirect. Are there any best practices or "rules" I can follow when deciding whether to re-write and redirect blog URLs?

How does offline-to-online plagiarism work?
I'm in a situation where content is getting muddled up with my client. Explanation **Website A (client) **releases a press release offline; **Website B (third party news website) **uploads this release to their blog; Website A then uploads this release to their blog. Q1: Who will Google see as the original creator of this content? Q2: If **Website A **and Website B upload the content at the same time, who will Google see as the original creator? Any advice on these questions would be highly appreciated.

Why is redirecting all broken pages to the homepage is a bad idea?
I have a site where all broken pages are redirected to the homepage. I've been told that it's a bad idea in terms of SEO. I just can't figure out why 🙂

Should i 301 redirect my blog to the respective site or just 404 all the blog pages?
Hi guys, We plan to close down our blog, which is a subdomain to our anchor site. I need advice on how to keep the link juice and its SEO value. Is it better to 301 redirect the blog to the homepage of our site, or just 404 all the pages of the blog? Thanks

I work on a uk decorating website with five of our own bloggers all of which reside on the home page of the website on their own separete blogging urls as sub domains - is this a good idea or would google not like this from an seo point of view?
Should blogs that are part of an overall content site be on separate sites and link in or is it ok to promote them as content on the home page of the site and take users off to their own url to view the site. Is this good practise for seo?

Google authorship works on posts, but not on root domain.
When I check Google authorship via the tool Google provides, it says I am confirmed for individual posts, but not for my root domain. I’m using WordPress, and individual posts are fine, but not the blog as a whole. I am the only author… and have given it a week, thinking perhaps it needed time... but no luck. Any suggestions? Thank you!!
