Semoz Toolbar
-
Hi,
I had a problem with too many links on a page and I tryed to replace the navigation with one that reloads the subnavigation with ajax to lower the amount of links.
After that I used the seomoz toolbar to check the result. And also this tool: http://linkcounter.submitexpress.com/
Linkcounter showed the correct amount (lowered by the number of links hidden with ajax) but the Seomoz-Toolbar showed still the same number as before.
Now I am wondering:
Does the Seomoz-Toolbar needs time to check the content or does ist just count all links no matter if they are hidden or not. And most important: Does Google counts the ajax Links also?
Thanks!

Hi RTG,
My understanding is the Moz Toolbar is designed to parse (count) all links within the HTML code. Depending on how the source code is written, this may include links hidden by Ajax. It does it's best not to count links embedded in javascript or other snippets of code, but in all honestly it wouldn't be that surprising for these types of links to slip through.
Another way you can links is by viewing Google's Text Cache of the page you are viewing. You can do this with the following query, replacing your website for example.com
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http://example.com/&strip=1
Google will "show" the links that it sees. But this doesn't tell the whole story either.
You see, Google will also try to parse javascript links and Ajax types link and see if they can follow them. So if you're trying to hide links with AJAX, it may not be the best method, as Google can likely discover them. That said, it's unknown how much weight those links will carry in terms of authority and anchor text.
If it sounds like I'm talking in circles, it's because I am. It sounds like what you're really concerned with here is the amount of links on the page. For that I recommend this post by Dr. Pete: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-many-links-is-too-many
Hope this helps!

How long after 301 redirect does seomoz toolbar take to update?
I 301 redirected a page to a new URL that is better optimized for my content. However as soon as I did this upon visiting the page, my browser's seomoz toolbar "page authority measurement had fallen to "1" it was previously in the 40's... Does anyone know how long it takes for the seomoz toolbar PA rank to refresh on a 301 redirect? I see where seomoz says the redirected page will retain between 90-99% off its link juice. I'm fine with losing a little if it would mean long term gains in terms of good on-page seo. Any ideas?

Toolbar not working in Firefox
Really strange thing on my laptop, the seomoz toolbar is not working with FF 6. I have the same set up in the office on a PC and all is fine there. Basically it shows the tool bar but no info, states log in but when you click on this it takes you to the seomoz site and states the website is down, which is false as the website is working as I type now. I have uninstalled the the toolbar and then reinstalled it from the research tools, still no joy. Can anyone help? Thanks A

SEOMoz Toolbar in Chrome
The SEOMoz toolbar is displayed very differently in Chrome as compared with Firefox. It 'overlaps' the page, showing on top of the content instead of offsetting the page/window. In other words, the footer or the header of the page (depending on what toolbar location is chosen in the Settings) is eclipsed by the Toolbar. This was not an issue in Firefox. Has anyone experienced the same problem with the toolbar? How can I make the toolbar integrate into the browser window itself rather that popping up on top of the rendered webpage? Thanks.

IP Location at a glance - Moz toolbar
I am using the latest version of the moz toolbar in my firefox browser. The IP location feature is not working for me as demonstrated in the article. "You will now notice a new button with a flag that shows up in the toolbar as you surf the web. This new toolbar addition shows the country where this site is hosted. Click on the flag to see more details about the location and IP address. If you want to learn more, click on the IP to access WhoIs information." My flag icon is depressed and looks like a US flag, even when I browse European sites. Also, I never see the location nor IP address of other sites. Am I missing a step or is the tool not working correctly?

SEOmoz toolbar log in chrome wonky!
In Chrome, I'll start off not logged in to the toolbar. I'll click log in which forwards me to the SEOmoz login page. I'll login. Sometimes the toolbar will reflect this login and the metrics will poplulate in the PA and DA, other times it won't. If I navigate to another page within the same tab, it may show metrics still, but it is also just as likely to show that I'm not logged in. If I open a new tab, the toolbar will show that I'm not logged in. I click the log in again but when directed to SEOmoz, it'll show that I'm already logged in. I haven't been able to pinpoint exactly when it'll work and when it won't. Seems a bit random, so am wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue and has been able to solve this logged in / not logged in problem. As a note, anytime I navigate back to the SEOmoz site, whether by opening a new tab or a new window, the SEOmoz site does show I'm logged in, while the toolbar shows I'm not. You can see a demonstration of the simultaneous logged in SEOmoz site and logged out SEOmoz toolbar in the attached screen shot. UPDATE Also having similar issues in firefox. Am wondering if this has anything to do with the fact that I changed my email address within the past few weeks. KQXxN.gif
