How strong are reciprocal editorial links
-
Hello,
If someone mentions a site in their blog, then that site mentions them back in their blog, how strong is this reciprocal link?
Can a lot of these type of links be bad?
Thanks

The fact that you're getting dramatically different views on the issue leaves open the possibility that there is no steadfast rule to go by here. If that's the case, your SEO experience should be telling you to tread lightly.
A few years back, Bill Slawski wrote a post about what search engines think about reciprocal links. Some months later, Eric Ward a post expounding on "Why Reciprocal Links Will Always be Viable". Both are still relevant and good reads.

Thank you Irving and littlesthobo,
I posted this because I seem to be getting dramatically different ideas on if editorial reciprocal links are beneficial.
I'd like to hear more details on how you know that the links are good or bad, and it would be great to hear from others' opinions as well.
We're considering exchanging blog posts with alumni of ours, which is what started this search for an answer.

I think it depends on the nature and the quality of the sites. For example, say I got a link from the Guardian and I was so chuffed I posted a link back to the article on the guardian on my blog, I'm pretty certain I would still reap the link juice benefits.
Edit - I just want to add that I do have direct experience of this on a new clients site. As a UK jounalist for a british new site he has dozens of backlinks to his site. They;re his only backlinks, his site isn't optimised at all and hasn't been updated in years, yet he has amazing rankings for highly competitive keywords.

reciprical linking is no longer a good strategy. google knows it's a "you do something for me i'll do something for you" deal and discounts them

Reciprocal Backlinks
Hi all, We've just started looking into backlinks for our website, and we're...a bit overwhelmed to say at least. We thought the best way to start with backlinks is to reach out to our industry partners, and ask them to put a link to our website on theirs (in a blog, or a relevant page of course), as it's relevant for users. However, the question we almost always get is, can you do the same and link back to our website? How does google look at reciprocal links? We think they can be seen as a 'transaction of links' and not have as much link juice as links which aren't reciprocal. Is there any best practice for how to approach this? Thank you in advance. Diana

How do I find links that link to several competitor sites?
I want to find linking pages that link to several of my competitors. Those are likely to be lists of tools I can also add my website to. My application is a dashboard tool/kanban board. So if I find a page linking both to say kanbannery.com and kanbanflow.com it will be likely to be a collection of links to kanban tools, ad my application can be relatively easy added. Magestic SEO has a "clique hunter" - is there anything similar in MOZ suite of tools?

What is the number of links do you require your link builder to attain each week or month? What is a reasonable goal?
Hello Mozzers... I would like to get a survey or feedback from other Mozzers who owns an SEO company or manages / hire link builders. **What is the average number of links does your link builder need to attain per week or month? what is their goal? ** I understand quality over quantity but I want to make sure there is a reasonable average to provide them goals and something to achieve on. Of course reward them more if they exceed or get .edu links. What do you institute? What do you think is fair and achievable per website? PS. There is no right or wrong answers here. I am looking for a measurable answer not subjectable. Again just gathering MEASURABLE GOALS.

Nofollow links exchange
Hi guys, I'm studying Seo for the first time and I'm really passionate about it. Only one simply question. Assume that I'm cited in a blog with the same PR of mine and I want to say thanks by recite the blogger in my blog. I know that If two blog backlink each other the pr juice is equal to zero. But If the other blogger link me with dofollow and I link him back with nofollow, does my blog take benefit from the link exchange? Thank u very much and sorry for my medium level english 😉

Build Links with Bloggers
Hi! A few days ago, someone asked about how to ask links from bloggers and we got good answers, specially from Egol. But, I do want to add to that question: after conducting research on each blogger and make sure they have good quality content, how would you factor in their page rank, visitors, page view and social media info? if they don't have much traffic, with PR3 (we are PR4), which means we can't count on too much traffic from them, but, will backlink from such places deemed as quality link by Google? I do understand the higher number in PR and traffic is better, but, in our case, they don't come by often. Is it still worthwhile to do the lower sites?
