Penguin & Panda: Geographic Penalities?
-
Has anyone ever come across information about a website appearing strongly in SERP's in one region, but poorly in another? (ie: great in Europe, not so great in N. America)
If so, perhaps it is a Panda or Penguin issue?
-
There are many factor which influences a site's ranking in one region or another.
Google is heading toward personalized results based on user location, but that's no panda or penguin issue.
Some things to consider are:
- the location of your hosting server
- the tld of your site
- the location and tld of your linking sites
- the location you set up in your gwtools or in your buiness page
- the content of your site, if it's english it may be more british focused or american
- and other ranking factors which only google knows

How to come back from reverse SEO penalization, and how to find out more about it?
Hello, We are currently researching the case of a client that suffered greatly after a campaign of reverse SEO. In a short spam of time (about 6 months) thousands of foul links were created pointing at this site, and as a consequence, it got an algorithmic penalization, and organic traffic dropped almost by half. Does anyone has any experience with this kind of situations we could learn from? Obviously, we are already proceeding to disavow such bad links, but we'd also love to get to know who is behind this. Is there any way of finding out who or what company originated these links. Many bad sites were specifically created to harm this client's reputation, but the registrant is privacy protected. We could at best find out where these sites are hosted. Is there any way we could progress further in finding out more about this? We are talking of a campaing carried out by someone who knows their way around SEO, and which took at least 6 months to a 1 years of constant spammy bombing. Any leads will be greatly appreciated. Proper Form for Title & Description Tags
Greetings MOZ Community: I operate a real estate web site in New York (www.nyc-officespace-leader.com) that I suspect has been hit by Panda 4.0. I believe a problem is thin content on product pages, which in my case are 350 listing pages. However I am also looking at how title and description tags are formatted for these 350 pages to ensure this is not a factor in the ranking drop. The title descriptions are written like this: <title></span><span class="webkit-html-tag">Flatiron loft for rent | West 21st Street | 1441SF $6604/month</span><span class="webkit-html-tag"></title> Is this sufficiently diverse? Will constantly repeating various street names, square footages and prices work against me? Will Google in a sense consider this thin or repetitive content? It does provide the visitor with key information. The descriptions meta tags are written along these lines: description" content="One of the most desirable full floor sublets in Midtown South. Recent build out, pristine condition, panoramic views, tech chic, spectacular. Top location." /><meta< span=""></meta<> From an SEO perspective are these critical tags written the way they should be? Thanks everyone!! Alan

Duplicate (Basically) H1 & H2
We've about to relaunch one of our ecommerce sites and have a question regarding H1 & H2 tags. We use our primary keyword for each category in that category page's H1. We also include a block of text at the bottom of the page explaining the benefits of the products, the various styles we offer, personalization options, gift packaging, etc. We were planning on having an H2 at the beginning of that text that read 'About [keyword:]', but the question of duplicate H1 & H2 tags has come up. Is penalization possible for having them almost the same? It's not like they're not relevant - the H1 is referring to the category itself and the H2 references our explanation of the category. Just curious what the best way to approach this would be.

Read More & SEO
I have just had my site redesigned. The site was designed with only important facts bullets at the top of the page and all other information is below in the read more section that expands when clicked. I am wondering if I need to have this information in the read more section visible to the customer or if having the majority of the text in the read more is OK? and how it will effect rankings having it this way? I have had spots #1 &2 on Google for my keywords- until the site was redesigned...wondering if this was part of the reason. I have moved some of the text up to be visible on some of the pages - but it makes the site look cramped - and competes with the ease of use the site design Any insight on this is appreciated.

Web fonts & SEO
Hi everyone ! My question is regarding web fonts. We are currently working on a new design for our website and we're thinking about using web fonts instead of images containing the fonts we'd like to have. I'd like to know if web fonts can affect SEO as they need to be downloaded on the visitor's computers and consequently can slow down the load time of our web pages. If anyone has used web fonts in the past, do you have some specific tips to share ? Thank you in advance for your answers! Jeremie
