Order of importance
-
Hi,
From the screenshot below I have signed up to "Plan 1". I am not happy with the company and think I can do this better myself using SEOMoz. My questions are. Ignoring the one off tasks listed.
Which of the Monthly tasks is the most important, which is the second most important etc?
Is there any that can be ignored or are any now detrimental to SEO?
Is there anything that is not on the list that maybe there should be?
In summary I am trying to workout how hard and how much time and effort it will take to go it alone using SEOMoz for guidance?
In case the screenshot doesn't show, below is the Monthly tasks I get on my Plan.
5 x Themed Link Building (min PR2)
10 x Directory Submissions
4 x Blogs
250 words Content Copywriting
1 x Article syndicated 50 times
Thanks
Andrew

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the reply. What do you mean by Social Signals?
Andrew
-
I wouldn't forget about articles completely, just make them compelling and only market them on proper blogs or websites, not article directories etc.
Invoicing itself may not be that compelling, but invoicing is an integral part of any online business. Therefore, it is not too much of a leap for the user or especially Google for you to produce engaging content on business practices, small business advice etc. Business advice could be a huge market to explore. There won't be a problem producing content across the business niche for a company offering your product, I wouldn't think.
The algorithm itself does not differentiate between "exciting" or boring content, but it will take notice of social signals (which are more likely to be present in engaging content) and will also take notice of a page with rich media, such as images or videos.
Hope this helps and feel free to pop in with any more questions!

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the response. So I am 100% clear, what you are saying. Would this be a good plan of attack? Get the site A graded by SEOMoz tools. Forget about directory submissions unless they are top notch. Forget about articles totally. Once the site is A graded concentrate on the Blog content and make it a) interesting to our users b) add keywords into the blog as per LSI blog writing techniques.
Incidentally we are an online invoicing company which is a fairly dull subject to blog about, any ideas how to make our blog interesting? And is it more important that google finds it "interesting" from a SEO point of view rather than humans?
Thanks

No worries Andrew. Here's my feedback.
You would be able to do this per month quite easily. The problem is that you shouldn't do any of it. At least not in this matter.
Directory submissions - I would can altogether. The value of the link you will get from a directory is already weak, but what we have seen in 2013 so far are a lot of directory links being devalued. Taking the time, and possibly money, to submit to directories is just a waste to me. It's a favourite of bad companies because it is quick and scalable. You should remember that there are no quick wins in SEO, or at least very few of them.
If you absolutely must use directories, have a look at the SEOMoz directory list. Look for the ones that specialise in your niche/industry.
"Themed Link Building" - I don't even know what that would entail. The fact they are judging it by PR, an outdated, inaccurate and easily manipulated metric, worries me quite a lot.
Article syndication - just no. It reeks of laziness, duplicate content and will offer little to no value whatsoever.
If I were you, I'd concentrate with your website first. Ensure that everything is in order with your own house and that you're targeting the right keywords before you continue. Here are some really useful audits you can carry out:
SEER Interactive Audit Checklist
Keyword audit guide from Zazzle Media
I mentioned before that there aren't many quick wins when building links. If there are any to be found, you can definitely find some at PointBlankSEO. Read their Link Building Resources guide and also the complete link building strategy guide. Both are extremely detailed and the second link also includes a tool that gives the estimated time for completion, which could be useful for you.
After that, I'd always look at producing some great content, both for your own site and for guest publications. Make your website exceptional by producing content for your industry that has never been seen before. Keep your best content on your own site. If you're looking for content partners, don't look at PR. Don't even look at PA/DA. Look at how engaged their audience is, how active they are on social media and relevant it is to your industry. MyBlogGuest is a quick stop for some resources, but you'll have more luck jumping into the communities where your audience appears, such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+. Identify key influencers in your industry via FollowerWonk and strike up a genuine connection.
This is just a brief summary, but I hope these links help set you on your way.

Hi thanks for the feedback I didn;t realize it hadn;t shown. I have updated the question.

Hi Andrew
The screenshot hasn't been attached, could you try again or list the tasks here?
The fact that it's a preset plan makes me pessimistic to begin with.

Domain Authority important if we pursue longtail non-competitive keywords?
Hi, We currently have a relatively low DA score of 26. We have been working to increase it but of course it takes time. We are starting to adapt our approach and rank for non-competitive, long-tail keywords. If our DA is very low, will this affect our longtail keyword ranking even though there is very little competition for those? Thanks

Where to Place Quality Content in Order to Create Links?
Assuming we have retained a an award winning journalist to write articles/blog posts about our business. Assuming the content is useful and engaging. Where would be the best place to publish it to create high quality backlinks? 1. Our website blog
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Kingalan1
2. Social media sites like our LinkedIn or Facebook pages.
3. Sending completed articles to websites that might potentially have an interest in publishing them.
4. Publishing the articles on our website and then promoting them with Adwords and Facebook to demographics that would find them interesting and link to them.
5. Combination of publishing an article on our website and posting a related article on social media and linking it back to the original article on our website.
6. Place a custom written article of extremely high quality on affiliate website run by the HOTH or a competitor. But before publishing check the affiliate website on AHREFS and Link Research Tools to ensure that the metrics are not at all spammy (decent domain rating). Which of the above options (or combination of) would most likely result in backlinks of good quality? Assume the quality of the writing is excellent. If pitching the content to other websites (#3) would work, how would we identify these websites? Thanks,

Thousands of 503 errors in GSC for pages not important to organic search - Is this a problem?
Hi, folks A client of mine now has roughly 30 000 503-errors (found in the crawl error section of GSC). This is mostly pages with limited offers and deals. The 503 error seems to occur when the offers expire, and when the page is of no use anymore. These pages are not important for organic search, but gets traffic from direct and newsletters, mostly. My question:
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Inevo
Does having a high number of 503 pages reported in GSC constitute a problem in terms of organic ranking for the domain and the category and product pages (the pages that I want to rank for organically)? If it does, what is the best course of action to mitigate the problem? Looking excitingly forward to your answers to this 🙂 Sigurd0 -
Crawl diagnostic how important is these 2 types of errors and what to do?
Hi,
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | nicolaj1977
I am trying to SEO optimized my webpage dreamesatehuahin.com When I saw SEO Moz webpage crawl diagnostic I kind of got a big surprise due to the high no. of errors. I don’t know if this is the kind of errors that need to be taken very serious i my paticular case, When I am looking at the details I can see the errors are cause by the way my wordpress theme is put together. I don’t know how to resolve this. But If important I might hire a programmer. DUPLICATE ERRORS (40 ISSUES HIGH PRIORITY ACCORDING TO MOZ)
They are all the same as this one.
http://www.dreamestatehuahin.com/property-feature/restaurent/page/2/
is eaqual to this one
http://www.dreamestatehuahin.com/property-feature/restaurent/page/2/?view=list This one exsist
http://www.dreamestatehuahin.com/property-feature/car-park/
while a level down don’t exsit
http://www.dreamestatehuahin.com/property-feature/ DUPLICATE PAGE TITLE (806 ISSUES MEDIUM PRIORITY ACCORDING TO MOZ)
This is related to search results and pagination.
Etc. Title for each of these pages is the same
http://www.dreamestatehuahin.com/property-search/page/1 http://www.dreamestatehuahin.com/property-search/page/2 http://www.dreamestatehuahin.com/property-search/page/3 http://www.dreamestatehuahin.com/property-search/page/4 Title element is to long (405)
http://www.dreamestatehuahin.com/property-feature/fitness/?view=list
this is not what I consider real pages but maybe its actually is a page for google. The title from souce code is auto generated and in this case it not makes sense
<title>Fitness Archives - Dream Estate Hua Hin | Property For Sale And RentDream Estate Hua Hin | Property For Sale And Rent</title> I know at the moment there are properly more important things for our website like content, title, meta descriptions, intern and extern links and are looking into this and taking the whole optimization seriously. Have for instance just hired a content writer rewrite and create new content based on keywords research. I WOULD REALLY APPRICIATE SOME EXPERIENCE PEOPLE FEEDBACK ON HOW IMPORTANT IS IT THAT I FIX THIS ISSUES IF AT ALL POSSIBLE? best regards, Nicolaj1 -
First link importance in the content
Hi, have you guys an opinion on this point, mentioned by Matt Cutts in 2010 : Matt made a point to mention that users are more likely to click on the first link in an article as opposed to a link at the bottom of the article. He said put your most important links at the top of the article. I believe it was Matt hinting to SEOs about this. http://searchengineland.com/key-takeaways-from-googles-matt-cutts-talk-at-pubcon-55457 I've asked this in private and Michael Cottam told me he read a study a year ago that indicated that the link juice passed to other pages diminished the further down the page you go. But he can't find it anymore ! Do you remember this study and have the link ? What is your opinion on Matt's point ?

In order to improve SEO with silos'urls, should i move my posts from blog directory to pages'directories ?
Now, my website is like this: myurl.com/blog/category1/mypost.html myurl.com/category1/mypage.html So I use silos urls. I'd like to improve my ranking a little bit more. Is it better to change my urls like this: myurl.com/category1/blog/mypost.html or maybe myurl.com/category1/mypost.html myurl.com/category1/mypage.html Thanks
