DMOZ how long?
-
Hi,
How long does it take for DMOZ to process a suggest url?
Thanks,
Ben
-
Thank you to everyone who helped clarify this issue.
I thought about becoming an editor, although, from what I read, the SEO value of having a DMOZ link may not be as strong as it once was...
Great info!
-
It really depends on the category... some categories have several active editors with dozens of submissions a day, others haven't been updated in years.
-
Nice to know.
How active is dmoz today ? (as far as editors and sumbitions)
-
Yup, I'm an editor at DMOZ and I know lots of other people who have done it as well. You just need to write a good application, and do a good job at editing the categories.
By starting with a sub category, I mean actually apply at DMOZ not a satellite site. So if the category you want to go for is Books, start with something like Audio Book Rentals, then move up to Audio Books, then finally Books, etc.
-
Do you know anyone that did that ?
I've try - I've become an editor to some domoz satellite sites like chefmoz and music moz but no luck in moving up from there (that was 2009 though)
-
The best way to get listed in DMOZ is to become an editor. Start with a minor sub category that is related to your topic, then work your way up the hierarchy by building a track record of good edits.
-
Submit and forget it.
If you do get listed great but don't expect to and certainly don't think it will make much difference to your rankings.
If you are pinning you hope on dmoz you are going to be disappointed.
-
Hi,
Before submitting check and see if the category has an editor - at the bottom of the page one or more username should be listed. If there are no editors with Dmoz going down the hill, chances are slim that you will get listed.
If there is at least one editor - you can get listed - but even so it can take a lot of time.
However, the Dmoz "get listed" best strategy is: submit it and forget about it. (if you get listed good, if not , good)
Even if you get listed the benefits are no longer as they used to be.
Cheers.

1 day to never.
Depends on the number of editors, submissions for the category you submit a link to and quality of the website submitted.

Cannibalization vs long tail keyword dilemma
Hi all. I have a dilemma that I'm trying to work out a solution to and could use some input. We offer a Foreign Qualification (FQ) service for businesses, and thus "foreign qualification" is a strong keyword for which we currently hold great ranking position for our service page. FQ is different in each state, so we have a series of blog posts focusing on the requirements for each state. "Alabama foreign qualification" is one of many long tail keywords (50 states x various phrasings) we're targeting here. The problem is that it's impossible to write 50 blog posts that are not very similar content, since the process is similar, just not identical, in each state. I'm worried about duplicate content penalties here. I'm thinking that I'd want to create a landing page that serves as a hub for each of these blog posts, perhaps with a reference table for the 50 states too, and set the blog post canonicals to this landing page (thereby pushing all state-focused long tail KWs there). However, I don't want to take away ranking strength of the aforementioned service page for the primary keyword. If I do this, and also link the new landing page to the service page using "foreign qualification" as the anchor text, am I more likely to add or take away from the strength of the service page? Thanks for any and all insight!

How long to re-index a page after being blocked
Morning all! I am doing some research at the moment and am trying to find out, just roughly, how long you have ever had to wait to have a page re-indexed by Google. For this purpose, say you had blocked a page via meta noindex or disallowed access by robots.txt, and then opened it back up. No right or wrong answers, just after a few numbers 🙂 Cheers, -Andy

Long tail pattern pages
I have a number of clients offering a number of services on our platform. Currently we have only client profiles online but were thinking now to create landing pages for each client and each service based on long tail keyword patterns we saw emerge.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | ddspg
This would increase the number of landing pages by 10x but since those long tail keyword landing pages are fairly similar for each client+service combination we were wondering what issues we could run into with this approach.
Can our domain get penalized if we do this or would possible duplicate pages just not rank? Or is this all with in the rules?0 -
Long tail rankings
Hi everybody. We've been working with http://www.lawnmowersdirect.co.uk/ for some time now. Rankings for broad terms such as 'lawn mowers' and 'lawnmowers' are superb, and we're pretty happy. Bizarrely though, rankings for products are very poor. For example this page - http://www.lawnmowersdirect.co.uk/product/honda-hrg465sd - is currently 17th for 'Honda HRG465SD IZY'. We've done lots of work onsite, clearing up duplicate content, improving copy and tidying up URLs. However, none of this seems to have had a major impact on the product pages. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

MozRank of 0.0 for a long time
I have a very small client/personal friend of mine who is in a very niche market. They rank pretty well for all their keywords mainly because it is so niche and the competitor websites are no good. I was wanting to begin adding a few blog posts and tips here and there about industry, but was wanting to first know why have a 0.0 mozRank. Their campaign has been set up on Moz for over 6 months and there are 0 errors and warnings for their site... I thought they would eventually warrant something. I have read the posts explaining mozRank and have came to the conclusion that it is a 0.0 still because no one is linking to their site.. am I right? Other than that, are there other ways to raise this score? Site is http://bit.ly/18nPE3W

Keyword Selection - Long Tail or not long tail keyword
Hi Friends, We have a keyword "plus size clothing" but we used this as "plus size clothing 2012" to Cover the both keywords "Plus size clothing" and "Plus size clothing 2012" My question is, are we still focusing on "plus size clothing" when use "plus size clothing 2012" instead of the main keyword.? What strategy do yo suggest that when to use long tail and when to not. (when I talk to use a long tail than it means use it prominently on the page as main keyword should be used.)

How long until 301 passes juice to new site?
We put up a new site for an attorney and changed his url along with total redevelopment. We used a 301 for the old to the new and it does resolve to the new. It has been one month and the old site in OSE still shows DA of 37 with PA for homepage of 15. The new site has come up.....to a DA of 6 with homepage at 1 still. For any who might wish it, the referring site is theHollandLawFirm.com and the new site is Houston-Bankruptcy-Attorney.info. Would love to know of any experience with the timing on this.
