O.S.E. vs Webmaster Tools
-
Webmaster tools is telling me I have a bunch of websites pointing to my website, and I have been adding links as of the last 3 weeks which WM Tools is already seeing. Open Site Explorer isn't really showing any of them? My site has gone from bottom of page 5 to page 2 in just 3 weeks so I'm happy about that but can anyone explain this to me?
-
Hi there,
Top place "/" will be your homepage.
"Not mentioned" or "not provided" or "not set" are increasingly prevalent and based on users being logged in to a Google account when searching.
-
In Google Webmaster Tool, While Checking for Traffic Source for My Blog !
Get a Top place always "/" and "Not Mentioned" in terms of Keyword !
What Does it Mean ! -
I ran AHrefs and got ahref rank of 99.1. Ive never used the site before, is that good?
-
I would suggest the issue is in the title.
It's not OSE vs. WMT
It's OSE + WMT.
OSE, Ahrefs, Majestic, WMT, and all the other backlink check methods will always produce less than 100% of your links. OSE seems to purposely ignore some lower-quality ones, Majestic seems to find a lot of duplicate links on other pages and AHrefs seems to give me the "best" results. If you put Ahrefs + OSE + WMT + Majestic, you get the best results, though.
WMT also seems to discover most links fastest. But I use OSE for much of our backlink research currently.
-
Yes WMT is going to have the most detailed list of all domains pointing. OSE and others could show anywhere between 5-20 or 30% of a link profile. I believe that WMT may show 50%+. Bear in mind these numbers are just indicative of what I have seen on our numerous websites and also what I have read. You are never going to have 100% of all links reported anywhere, it is all about getting the best possible picture you can and working from there.
-
So WMT is the best place to see whats actually pointing at the site? I actually see a few domains on WMT that I know for a fact have 301 redirects on them so there is literally no way it could be pointing to my website anymore.
Also its much different. WMT is saying I have 65 domains linking and OSE is saying like 18.
-
Hi Jonathon,
WMT is always going to show a far larger index of links compared to OSE or Ahrefs or any other backlink database. OSE and any other tools like that are only every going to give you a picture of your link profile, never the whole picture. We use these tools mainly for competitor research and to support WMT for our own sites.

How Effective Are Links Between The Same Company's Websites With Different Domain Extensions?
Morning! The main competitor of an eCommerce site I'm working on has a total of 31 sites for 31 different countries. Each one of these sites has a different domain extension (.com, .co.uk, .fr, .it etc.), and every single one of these sites' pages links to all the other homepages through a dropdown menu on the navigation bar. When I pop the .co.uk URL (our main competitor) into Open Site Explorer, I'm advised they have a 45,079 links from 475 domains. If I look at 'just discovered' links, most are from their own sites - I guess MOZ picks these up every time a new page is created. Now, these guys are huge in the UK. They rank in the top 10 for pretty much every single search term and, to put it into some kind of perspective, their Search Metrics score is 33,000 compared to our measly 160! Don't get me wrong, they do get some decent links from authoritative sites, but it seem most of their links are from their own sites. How does Google view these? Does my competitor have these thousands of 'internal' backlinks to thank for their current position? I've just checked their .kr URL and this has 12.5 million(!) links from just 450 domains. Do every single one of these links pass equity? Or does Google just look at one from each domain? Thanks, Lewis

Does Adding Affiliate ID's to Link Affects it's Value
Hello, I have a question about adding Affiliate ID's to links. I receive a DoFollow link to my website with an affiliate ID in order to track the leads and the traffic that comes from each affiliate link/website. does this link (with the affiliate ID) pass Juice from the affiliate website? (I use canonical link element on my website pages)? how does Google deals with links with affiliate IDs ? is adding Affiliate ID to links reduces it's value?

Backlink count is WAY high vs. competitors
Hi all! My site was managed by a SEO company that is no longer around. I started to look for a new agency and in the process, found Moz and decided to try out the report. While running the report, found out that my I have 3K links vs 173/1600/6344 links that my three other competitors have. Any simple guidance will be appreciated.

Google webmaster tools Who links the most updates?
Has anyone ever seen in the section in GWT "Who links the most" actually update. I have sites listed in there that had me on a blogroll so I had 93,000 links to me and they removed those links months ago but GWT still shows that number of links. Does anyone else actually see those numbers go down as links are removed?

Web master tools
What constitutes a link showing up in Google web master tools? I know I have links to my site that do not show up in WMT. Have they just not been indexed or does not everything just show up? If it just doesn't show everything, what is the criteria for links to be displayed? Also when I run OSE it does not show all the links that have been displayed in my Google profile for a while. Why is that?

Multiple KW's , on-page and anchor text
Hello, For each page on my site, I've targeted one primary keyword and three to four secondary keywords. All of the keywords variants are tightly themed. With some on-page, I've ranked page two or three for all of the keywords and many are starting to convert based on Analytics data. Each page scores an "A" using the SEOmoz KW targeting tool for the "primary keyword only". For secondary keywords, I've only included words but not the complete keyword. For example, if the primary keyword is "blue green widgets" and the secondary keyword is "get blue green widgets", I've included the word "get" throughout the copy to target the secondary keyword. My questions are... Should I include each secondary keyword once in the copy and not just the word "get" for example? Just wondering if there is a better approach to target all of the keywords via on-page. When getting links to each page, how would you vary the anchor text to target all of the keywords, primary and secondary? Thanks!

Google Webmaster Tools - assessing inbound links
Hello, I am terribly confused by Google Webmaster Tools. I am looking at my inbound links, to see which content on the site is strongest. However, the results from GWT under Links to your site, and the results from doing a link: search in Google yield very different results! For example, in GWT, this page on our site apparently 2237 links from 29 different domains. But when I search link:www.nigelsecostore.com/acatalog/Eco_Stapler.html, I get just three results, two of which are from our site. What is the cause of the disparity between the two results, or is it just my (lack of) understanding of what I am seeing in the Links to your site report in GWT? Any help clearing this up gratefully received! Many thanks, Sophy

Page Authority vs. Domain Authority
Like many of you, I've spent a lot of time in Open Site Explorer analyzing our links and our competitors, and looking for more linking opportunities. Recently we've been focusing our SEO efforts on gaining links from high value .edu domains and so far we've been very successful. The DA of these links are high (80+), but the links are also coming through on low PA pages (typically 10-35). Are these links still worth while? When does a link not become worth it?
