Should i fix 404 my errors?
-
We have about 250, 404 errors due to changing alot of page names throughout our site.
I've read some articles saying to leave them and eventually they will go away. Normally I would do a 301 redirect.
What's the best solution?
-
I would do this. I personally don't think 250 404's is too much to knock out within a few hours. If you were in the thousands it would be a different concern.
Use excel to make this faster and 301
-
You can see the corresponding correct page against the 404 error page
Been the number of pages are high as you said, Make an entry in excel to note down all these 404 error pages and corresponding new page on the site
Then simply apply 301 redirect to the corresponding pages
-
If it's at all possible to redirect to a relevant page, I would do that. If the 404s are for pages that are no longer relevant, or old content you really don't want people to be able to find any more, then a 404 is just fine.

Google Search Console Crawl Errors?
We are using Google Search Console to monitor Crawl Errors. It seems Google is listing errors that are not actual errors. For instance, it shows this as "Not found": https://tapgoods.com/products/tapgoods__8_ft_plastic_tables_11_available So the page does not exist, but we cannot find any pages linking to it. It has a tab that shows Linked From, but if I look at the source of those pages, the link is not there. In this case, it is showing the front page (listed twice, both for http and https). Also, one of the pages it shows as linking to the non-existant page above is a non-existant page. We marked all the errors as fixed last week and then this week they came up again. 2/3 are the same pages we marked as fixed last week. Is this an issue with Google Search Console? Are we getting penalized for a non existant issue?

How to properly 404 pages from a subdomain
SO I am working on a site that had a subdomain that attracted a lot of spammy links. I researched the backlinks to this subdomain, and there were no beneficial links at all. I am thinking the best thing is to 404 this subdomain. What is the best way to do this? Should I just edit the DNS settings so that this subdomain does not point to the root domain? Or is there something that should be done in webmaster tools? Thanks in advance!
