Using Filters On Google Analytics
-
Hi Guys,
I am In need of some technical help with regards to Google analytics. One of my clients has a site providing HR Software on SaaS basis. The users login via the site for the various HR Tools. Obviously this is skewing the analytics data and showing 10,000+ extra visitors that actually don't exist. Now I understand i can add filters and exclude certain pages for instance the login page, however, some users will visit the home page then click login. How can I exclude them just to show new visitors to the site rather than users that are just trying to login.
Hope this makes sense
Neil

I absolutely recommend what Mark is suggesting here, however you will still have the problem that you're excluding sometimes the wrong kind of visitors as not everybody will be logged in automatically etc..
-
You'll want to configure a custom variable at a session level - you need to have your site fire the custom variable when users log in or are logged in in their sessions, and then once you have this configured, you can look at logged in vs non logged in behavior and all of the other goodies analytics provides.
You should refer to this information here - https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/gajs/gaTrackingCustomVariables#examples
It's not just a quick change in analytics, but will require some dev work on your end to make this work, but it should solve your questions and give you new insightful data that you can action to improve your site and your users' experience on it, so I would recommend doing it.
Good luck,
Mark

This makes perfect sense and is relevant to my interests. Unfortunately we track any and all, but are also a SaaS company with skewed analytics due to logins. We normally just rely on the new visitors numbers, but it would be kind of nice to separate the returning clients from new visitors entirely.
In other words, I don't have an answer (haven't really looked into it) but am tagging this thread to see what folks say.

Set Up of Goal Tracking with Google Analytics-$750 a Fair Price????
Greetings Moz Community! My firm operates commercial real estate website that contains 3-4 forms. Each form represents a goals. Google Analytics has been set up for years, but it does not track these form completions/goals properly. My SEO firm has offered to configure Goals on Google Analytics for $750. Is this a fair price? If the set up takes one hour, I am really over paying. But if this is a complex project that may take 7-9 hours the pricing seems OK. Also, the SEO firm will require an additional $750 in the future to set up event tracking. Is this excessive? I might add that my developer will need to add code to my web site. My SEO company has proven reliable and accurate. I can go to sleep at night knowing they are doing a good job. Where as my Argentinian developers really try their best, but perhaps because of the language barrier, they can make mistakes from time to time. I am willing to pay a premium to ensure that the job is done correctly domestically, however I don't appreciate over paying. Is the $750 payment for setting up Google Analytics reasonable assuming the job is done well??? Thanks,

Is it possible to use Google Tag Manager to pass a user’s text input into a form field to Google analytics?
Hey Everyone, I finally figured out how to use auto event tracking with Google Tag Manager, but didn't get the data I wanted. I want to see what users are typing into the search field on my site (the URL structure of my site isn't set up properly to use GA's built-in site search tracking). So, I set up the form submit event tracking in Google Tag Manager and used the following as my event tracking parameters: Category: Search Action: Search Value When I test and look in Google Analytics I just see: "search" and "search value." I wanted to see the text that I searched on my site. Not just the Action and Category of the event.... Is what I'm trying to do even possible? Do I need to set up a different event tracking parameter? Thanks everyone!

Installing Google Analytics tracking code on Landing Pages
Hello, I have my landing pages located on a separated subdomain (LP.example.com). I've created a new property in Google Analytics for that subdomain. My question is: where do I have to place the GA tracking code ? in the header ? before I close the tag or before I close the tag ? I have another issue: I've placed the GA Tracking code on some pages in the way below:

Using Google Analytics for tracking statistics of the HOMEpage
Hello, Lets say I have a website with the HOMEpage being http://www.page.com. There are various subpages e.g. http://www.page.com/page1, http://www.page.com/page2, http://www.page.com/page3 . Now when I use Google Analytics it gives me all kind of statistics for the subpages shown as /page1 /page2 /page3 ... (relative path). According to this pattern the HOMEpage should be just "/". Unfortunately I can't find "/" in any statistics. Is this normal? Thanks in advance

Any updates regarding 'not provided' organic keyword referrals in Google Analytics?
I know that the encrypted searches done by people logged into their Google accounts is causing the error, is there any workaround or any update from Google as to IF they will give us our keyword data back? I'm currently losing data on about 20% of my daily searches . . .

Google Analytics should track users from iPhone App
Hi Mozzers, you say there are no dumb questions, here is one. We've build an iPhone App for our Website working-dog.eu. So users can read there new messages with ease when they are out of the office, read about breeds, ... do all the nice stuff they want. I don't think so, but is it possible to track these users with Google Analytics? When the come via App, the Analytics code will not run for them. But maybe it could start an AJAX request or something like this? But how should the code run, without a browser which can interprete JavaScript? So, in short: Is it possible to track users from iPhone App with Google Analytics? Kind regards Patrick
