SERPS showing wrong page

Hi there,
searching Google UK for the term 'wireless alarms' returns the following page at position 39'ish -
http://www.compoundsecurity.co.uk/security-information/gsm-gprs-alarm-systems
The page that should be returned for that search is -
http://www.compoundsecurity.co.uk/security-equipment
The page being returned by Google at present is not optimised in any way for 'wireless alarms' but the page it should be showing is optimised for that term and the Moz grading tool agrees. The correct page also has a higher PA and 533 inbound links and the page being displayed has a lower PA and only 3 links.
Could some kind soul tell me what i am doing wrong please?
Thank you
Si

I do not understand why you "shouldn't change urls." Yes, you can, you just have to do it correctly. Afterward, you need to insure the new is canonicalized, etc.
Honestly, I am going to say something and it has the potential to be controversial: Beware taking SEO advice from a webmaster. That is one of the reasons several years ago we went into web dev and design. I got tired of trying to show people how to improve their rankings and business only to be shot down by someone who knows little of SEO.That is all, IMO.

Rock on Robert!!!!
THank you very much for your reply. I had discussed changing the URL but our webmaster said you shouldn't change URLs. What's the downside to that?
In actual fact i have very little idea of what i am doing. I'm 48 and not involved in SEO at all. I have just got sooo fed up of paying £500 ($750) per day for SEO services that produce no results, so i am on a fast learning curve.
All advice is appreciated.
Oh, and the links to the home page happened organically with no involvement by us. Just a very controversial product lol.

Daddy Smurf,
I like your question because I spent a lot of time asking the same one over the years. When I do a search in Google.co.uk, for wireless alarms, I get you with the "wrong" url at 36th (see I helped move you up! and when I search same for security systems, I get you at Number 1 and you have sitelinks showing, so good job in a tough vertical. (The search was done using incognito in chrome and screenshot attached).
Kevin makes a great point re the url (I think you really need wireless alarms in there since that is the query you want to rank for.) When I look at the page, I see opening content around types of wireless alarms without ever saying they are that. Yes it is in the H1, but I think that first paragraph needs it in the body content. Also, you are selling products and that presents the opportunity to utilize markup for products and or reviews on these which again would help you rank. I did a cursory check and say none on this page.
My experience tells me to use every possible advantage available except when there is a business reason not to. If you want to rank for wireless alarms in the way you are for security systems, get as aggressive as you were for that in the beginning and you will make it. You did not get where you are by being dumb, it is obvious you know what you are doing. My biggest enemy is complacency and I try to stay ever aware of that. I hope this helps you out.
Best,

Often times this happens (especially for a legacy page that has been around awhile and you introduce a new landing page). Over time, Google may feel that the other landing page is better for that query and move it up.
Looking just at the url "Alarms" is in the url for the first one and not the second (I know security isn't in the first one). So the url could be better optimized. Also, did you look at the link profile on both links and see if you can see something?

Help Blocking Crawlers. Huge Spike in "Direct Visits" with 96% Bounce Rate & Low Pages/Visit.
Hello, I'm hoping one of you search geniuses can help me. We have a successful client who started seeing a HUGE spike in direct visits as reported by Google Analytics. This traffic now represents approximately 70% of all website traffic. These "direct visits" have a bounce rate of 96%+ and only 1-2 pages/visit. This is skewing our analytics in a big way and rendering them pretty much useless. I suspect this is some sort of crawler activity but we have no access to the server log files to verify this or identify the culprit. The client's site is on a GoDaddy Managed WordPress hosting account. The way I see it, there are a couple of possibilities.
Reporting & Analytics | | EricFish
1.) Our client's competitors are scraping the site on a regular basis to stay on top of site modifications, keyword emphasis, etc. It seems like whenever we make meaningful changes to the site, one of their competitors does a knock-off a few days later. Hmmm. 2.) Our client's competitors have this crawler hitting the site thousands of times a day to raise bounce rates and decrease the average time on site, which could like have an negative impact on SEO. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe Google is going to reward sites with 90% bounce rates, 1-2 pages/visit and an 18 second average time on site. The bottom line is that we need to identify these bogus "direct visits" and find a way to block them. I've seen several WordPress plugins that claim to help with this but I certainly don't want to block valid crawlers, especially Google, from accessing the site. If someone out there could please weigh in on this and help us resolve the issue, I'd really appreciate it. Heck, I'll even name my third-born after you. Thanks for your help. Eric0 -

Large content snippets showing up as keywords?
I've started to notice something very strange: the search keywords report in analytics show a bunch of instances where a person copied large snippets of our site content and then pasted it into the search box. Half these searches are coming from the US and half from...India. I'm worried that this may be the sign of a competitor attempting to perform negative SEO on our site (though admittedly I don't know how). Anyone seen anything like this? Advice? Thanks!!

What is click2.scour, and why is it showing up as Referral Traffic in Google Analytics?
I've noticed that a couple of my clients in the insurance industry have been receiving a pretty large boost in Referral Traffic from a source called click2.scour.com and click2.efacts.com. What surprises me most is that the traffic has a low Bounce Rate, a high Avg. Visit Duration, and is made up of 100% New Visits. What is this? Why would they be getting so much traffic from these two sources all of a sudden? Thanks in advance for your help!

Page Retirement
I have a site with 6000 indexed urls. 1,500 have traffic I feel is valuable and 4,500 with almost no traffic (perhaps less than 10 page views in a year). These 4500 are inedxed but have 1 or less in bound links. If I retire the pages, will I help or hurt my Domain Authority and separately my rankings that could produce traffic? I'd appreciate any consideration. Jeffrey Strassman www.consultant360.com

Nofollow page is being reported as a landing page for organic search in Google Analytics
One of my client's websites includes a series of pages for an enrollment process. All of these pages are blocked by robots.txt. In Google Analytics these pages are showing data as landing pages for organic search traffic, and have been for quite some time. There was recently a surge of organic search traffic landing on one of these pages, coming from multiple search engines. The pages appear to be blocked and I'm not finding any of them in the search results for the keywords that are being reported in GA or by searching for the url. Does anyone have any insights into why this might be happening?
