Wordpress or Joomla?

I'm very interested on what users here use and why?
From my experience regarding online SEO, both CMSs are equal.
However, the ease of use is a different story. While both systems have a learning curve, wordpress is the easiest to learn thus making it probably the most popular CMS today.
Joomla on the other hand takes a bit more time to understand but when learned, can be quite flexible.
So if anyone here is kind enough to add their thoughts, I'm all ears!

I personally would go with WordPress as well. WordPress is easier to understand, and it is more popular as well. Less people are familiar with Joomla, so there would be a more difficult transition period if you ever decide to pass the site off to someone else or ask someone else to help. There are also a large number of plug-ins for WordPress, and the cost of hiring help is relatively inexpensive. From an SEO perspective, I believe they would be about equal.

Wordpress, All the way. One answer because of its huge and kind support community.
Hope this helps

I always recommend WordPress to my clients for a CMS solution. Joomla in our experiences and in dealing with client's who have also used Joomla, was a headache. WP makes things easy. With that comes less time in setting up a site, uploading content, images, links, creating pages, etc... Not to mention, training the client is much more simplistic in WP. We use Screencast-O-Matic to record our monitors in order to create client site specific tutorials so they can control many aspects they want to have control of or that they know will be more dynamic than say their "About" page.
When it comes to SEO, yes, both would seem fine to use. WP has a lot of support for this and tons of plugins. We use All In One SEO and Yoast SEO most of the time. We are huge WP advocates and recommend the CMS for majority of our client projects. We are in the process of quoting a client site revamp from Joomla to Responsive WP next week Very happy about this to help us further their SEO campaign as they've been a client for over 2 years now. Can't wait to see what we can generate for them on the new WP site!
Always a great question to toss out to the community and thanks for the post! - Patrick

Try them both, there's free trials of each.
Personally, I'd go with Wordpress (after trying both myself.) Joomla's platform is inferior and their backend is weaker (opinions, but strong ones backed up with a bit of fact).
Also the community support for Wordpress is larger and there are more plugins and widgets. Not to mention the Yoast plugin is second-to-none in my opinion.
Still; try them both for yourself.

I would highly recommend Wordpress. Whilst typically it has been recognised as less powerful than the other platforms like Drupal (and indeed for for complicated websites this remains), there are alot of web designers out there making some extremely powerful feature rich themes which can make some excellent websites for businesses.
The benefit of WordPress, is that it is much more easy to customise, has a much better array of pre-made themes (see themeforest.net for example), and has lot more plugins available to add feature rich functionality.
As someone who learnt the trade using Drupal, and went over to WordPress I would recommend any small business looking for a website to use WordPress.

Wordpress is a blog software that went CMS. It's not a terribly large leap but it's important to note that Wordpress is still, by and large, used for blogging first and CMS second.
Joomla is a true CMS so it does more things and it tends to do them better than Wordpress in most cases but it's not as simple to use as Wordpress. It's also not as well supported, due to it not being as widely used. That doesn't make it bad, it's just a caveat.
If all you want is a basic website with a few pages, I'd go Wordpress. If you want something more thorough, go with a true CMS (Joomla, Drupal, etc), but be prepared for a steeper learning curve.

I personally tend to think most platforms are SEO agnostic. Most of the time the SEO features can easily be added in by someone that knows how to work with the platform fairly easy. I would go with Wordpress, just because I am more familiar with it than Joomla. At the same time, I think each has its own place though.

Will having two wordpress themes installed hurt seo?
We currently have 3 sites built on WordPress that have little to no blogging capabilities. Currently, all published posts show up on a /category page which does not resemble the traditional blog format and is not aesthetically pleasing. We would like to have a more traditional blog and are considering installing a second wordpress theme on the site which will strictly be used for /blog and all the posts. My question is will having the second WordPress installation on the sites hurt us in any way on the SEO front and if we go this way should we place the install in a subfolder or on a subdomain? Is there anything else we need to worry about with making this transition? Thank you in advance for the advice! Patrick

My site build in HTML has been badly hit this recent update and I have been toying on the idea of changing it to Wordpress
My site build in HTML has been badly hit this recent update and I have been toying on the idea of changing it to Wordpress. Would this help in my rankings? It seems the hit came only that last 2-4 days when business become much quieter. Frankly i have no idea on why the site fell in ranking all of a sudden. Been comparing to competitors and even a friend in the same industry and nothing makes sense so far (link profile, DA, PA etc) This site has been ranking well for 3 years prior to this. 2. My site has loads of content and visitors arrive from various landpages. But by changing it wordpress, the url of most of them would probably change. What should i do? 301 redirect all of them or is there a better method?

The Best Wordpress Templates and The Best SEO Plugins??
Hey guys, I am a newbie and after so many painstaking hours of building my new site using the WIX platform, I just found out that WIX is not SEO friendly 😞 So referring to (copy n pasted) the old post below posted in by Big Bazza back in June 2011, does anyone agree or have any updated information they can assist me with so I can get my new site started ? Cheers 🙂 www.studiopress.com - excellent templates and support is first class! EDIT: These all support WP 3.0 and are SEO friendly too! (They have modified the SEO functionality) However, the framework also allows you to run Yoast Wordpress SEO - which is generally considered the best SEO plugin for WP. http://yoast.com/wordpress/seo/

‘80-90% of SEO already done for you in Wordpress’ Am I missing something?
Hi there, I’m looking for some feedback on a statement made on my Facebook Page re Wordpress and SEO. Please understand I wouldn’t class myself as an expert but I am competent and achieve satisfactory results for clients, more so since becoming a SEOmoz Pro user, I’ve just had some great results for a client using SEOmoz guidelines in ‘On Page SEO Reports’ thank you very much! A comment however made on my FB page has got my interest…. “as you (kn)no(w) google loves WP and will get listed quicker as 80 to 90% of your SEO is already done” Does Wordpress (or Joomla for that matter mentioned in the same conversation) have some SEO advantages that Google loves as the poster would have me believe, can I save time and effort working in word press from an SEO point of view? I use the age old techniques of targeting key phrases and words and distributing them accordingly. Creating internal link structures with ‘key worded anchor text’ etc before embarking on any off page SEO. Do any of you vastly experienced (in comparison to me) SEO folk have any insight into what this statement refers to? I did not gather any references to SEO advantages in Wordpress or Joomla in the Enge and Fishkin et al book The Art of SEO, or any of the other books I’ve read, to develop my knowledge on SEO for the benefit of my clients and of course my pocket. Joomla ( title page override not working properly ) any techy guys out there
Hey Mozzers I am having some problems with joomla. I have tried many support forums and since everyone is in the same field as me, i thought this would be a great place to ask this question. I am working with joomla 2.5 and After i have turn on my search engine friendly configuration, you can override the ( alias ) of the page by providing page display options for title tag. so i turned on the SEF in global config and turn on the mod-rewrite and made sure my htaccess file was not txt. But i am having some problems with this.
Web Design | | BizDetox
On some pages the page display option for the _browser page title _works and on some it does. On the pages it doesnt it is pulling the information of the Alias. ( which is common with most site )
Why is it doing this You can check out the pages yourself Here is a page with it not working
http://tungstengem.com/mens-wedding-bands and here is a page with it working
http://tungstengem.com/mens-wedding-...-bands-for-men Also for my homepage when i didnt have my Apach rewrite it show the index.php and i was able to ad an alias to it. Now the Alias for the home page is not working0 -
Wordpress vs. mvc framework
What's the benefits of choosing an mvc framework such as codeigniter or cakephp over wordpress? Wordpress has so many plugins, and a universally known UI for customers, it just saves a ton of time. However, a lot of the 'big guys' like SEOmoz and Distilled(?) use Cakephp and other mvc frameworks so it has me wondering what the benefits are...... anyone?
