How to transfer 5 domains under one Brand domain without using 301 redirect with minimum SEO loss
-
My situation is rather complicated , I have 5 domains with different but identical services. Some with good traffic some without, but 2 main domains have manual penalty from Google (I have tried a lot to get rid of the penalty but no success) so finally I have decided to move all our websites under one anchor website 'a brand' and pass all the seo juice + blog articles under the same.
Now the problem with the procedure is that we cannot redirect the penalized domain urls to new one as penalization will also be transferred and the whole motive of creating a new brand will be lost.
So if somebody could guide me as of how I should proceed transferring SEO value with minimum traffic loss but without using 301)
**One way I could figure out is using canonical (Am not confident over it) but say I create 5 identical pages on new domain and declare them as canonical of old domain pages (So is it safe? will it transfer the penalty of old domain to canonical new urls? ) **
Rest i am bifurcating all the traffic sources like direct / organic / referral / Social etc and chalking out what we can control manually and in what ratio, gradually I will work on each section to transfer the traffic.
Main Problem is of Organic and Not available.
Some suggestions or blog urls would be appreciated.

Thanks a tons , Yes you are right if I don't want to pass link juice then I can always use 302 instead of 301. I will move along these lines
-
Okay, if you're not interested in maintaining organic traffic to the current site we have a few options.
In theory Google shouldn't even crawl the page to see the redirect if you Disallow: /, so that solution works fine. Still, I'd use a 302 redirect just in case Google the robots.txt doesn't catch something (maybe a subdomain with a different robots.txt or something) or if Google crawls a page before refreshing robots rules (they shouldn't).
So yes, your solution works fine, but I'd use a type of redirect that doesn't pass link as much equity like a 302 redirect just to be extra safe. Over a long period of time Google may treat 302 redirects more like 301s, but by then you'll be sure that Google understands not to even crawl the site so it won't matter.

Thanks for a good response first of all my confusion over canonical is cleared because as Google treats 301s and Canonical both as nearly same, I was doubtful if penalization will also be transfered, Anyways as I dont want to take any risk I can go for this technique with no follow link.
But i had one more thing in mind,(kindly note am not looking to transfer organic traffic) but I don't want to loose other sources so for that say my page is :
**www.oldsite.com/blog/example I will 301 it to a new location www.newsite.com/blog/example, now to avoid SEO juice + penalization to be passed to newsite I will block that particular old page from googlebot using Robot.txt or htaccess , so now google cannot access that old page and for the user its redirected to new page. **
Will this work? i.e. my new website would be safe from penalization ?

For the sites that are penalized you have a few options. Canonical tags can transfer penalty in some circumstances, as will 301 redirects. Over time even a 302 redirect may begin to be treated more like a 301 redirect.
If you're just worried about direct traffic only, simply noindex, nofollow the whole site, disallow it all in robots.txt. After that you can do something like a client-side-rendering JS redirect or a popup with a nofollow link to the new location.
If you're worried about losing current organic traffic, you will have to avoid any redirects or noindexing and direct people over to the new location with something like a popup that contains a nofollow link to the new location. It's not ideal, but you can't do any redirects that aren't potentially harmful when pages have low-quality links pointing to them. Hopefully over time the new site will start to rank instead, and you can pull the old site down. Or, if the penalty is eventually cleared, you can 301 redirect the old site over.

Here is What I will Do if I were You.
Simply Copy all databases of 5 Websites and Integrate them Into One Brand Website.
Delete everything from penguin hit websites. Let them die..
I have done this with our Penalty hit websites and New website started to Rank in few Weeks for Long tail Keywords.
Thanks

Drupal SEO Issues
Hi, I have two questions regarding my enterprise website. It is built on the Drupal CMS. First, and in looking at Google Analytics, I'm seeing more than 6k pages listed, but over 5k have received less than 10 page views in six months. In fact, most of them are not really content pages at all. The URLs I'm seeing listed, which to me indicates actual crawlable content in GA, shows pages like this: http://www.domainname.com/node/2153

http://www.domainname.com/resources/videos?field_video_category_value=all&page=4&page=1
http://www.domainname.com/search/site?search_api_views_fulltext=talent+pool What is the problem here? Why are these non-pages being indexed as content and why are they showing up in GA? Second question is about my blog and blog best practices. While I know blog content is important for SEO, why is my site blog pagination being indexed as content. For example, these "pages" are showing up in SERPs: http://www.domainname.com/blog/tag/business_intelligence?page=2
http://www.domainname.com/blog/topic/expansion?page=5

Site Hacked: Is it Faster and Better to 301 or 404 Irrelevant URLs?
Hey Everyone, So our site was hacked which created a large amount of irrelevant URLs on our domain; resulting in thousands of 404 errors and pages coming up for searches unrelated to our brand. The question is now that the issues have been resolved (and site re-submitted) would it be quicker (and more ideal) to redirect important 404 errors that see traffic, have links…etc. although not relevant or just let everything 404 out? We’re not as concerned with offering a relevant user experience because these are not in our demographic but want to avoid these pages convoluting our analytics as well as issues that might arise from Google thinking these topics do apply. Any help or insight would be very appreciated. Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns or we could provide further details that might help. Looking forward to hearing from all of you! Thanks in advance. Best,

Best to Leave Toxic Links or Remove/Disovow on Site with Low Number of Linking Domains
Our site has only 87 referring domains (with at least 7,100 incoming links). LinkDetox has identified 29% of our back links as being toxic and 14% as being questionable. Virtually all of these links derive from spammy sites. We never received a manual penalty, but ever since the first Penguin penalty in 2012 our search volume and ranking has dropped with some uneven recover in the last 3 years. By removing/disavowing toxic links are we risking that over optimized link text will be removed and that ranking will suffer as a result? Are we potentially shooting ourselves in the foot? Would we be better to spend a few months building quality links from reputable domains before removing disavowing bad links? Or toxic links (as defined by LinkDetox) so bad that it should be a priority to remove them immediately before taking any other step? Thanks, Alan

Cross Domain Tracking for multiple sub-domains with multi-lingual and culture versions
Hi, I have a question regarding cross-domain tracking that I haven't seen answered completely elsewhere. A client has a main domain, we'll say www.example.com and 4 or 5 sub-domains e.g. shop.example.com, support.example.com, account.example.com and service.example.com. The different sub-domains are managed by different third parties, with just www.example.com and account.example.com under our control. To add a further dimension, these sites all have multi-lingual versions as folders and in some cases multi-cultural versions e.g. www.example.com/de/ for Germany and www.example.com/ch-de/ for German-speaking Swiss. Not every language/culture has an equivalent site in place for each of the sub-domains e.g. the UK support site serves Denmark and Swiss-German users will use the German site: www.example.com/dk/ links to support.example.com/uk/ for support-based content

www.example.com/ch-de/ links to support.example.com/de/ At present, they use different analytics tracking codes and accounts. Moving forward, they would like to consolidate the data together to be able to see the collective and separate performances. They would also like to be able to see goal completions from referrals when someone clicks from the main domain to the sub-domain or across sub-domains or potentially across language and culture too. I have several questions I would really appreciate some guidance on: What will be the best way to configure Google Analytics to achieve this? Will we need to decorate the HTML links in between each of the sites? Will we need to use a new Google Analytics property? It may not be easy to answer this based on the information above, so I'm happy to provide additional information if required. Thanks in advance for your help.0 -

Verifying Site Ownership & Setting Up Webmaster tools for clients who use Hubspot
We are a Hubspot partner agency. I'm trying to find the best route for managing Google's tools as an extra resource for insight, not the primary basis for marketing effort. I also want to explore adwords in more depth. Finding a lot of our clients don't have one or the other or both Analytics/Webmaster tools in place. Can I verify site ownership to set up webmaster tools simply by having admin access to their analytics account or will that require ownership of the analytics account? With Google merging things together these days I'm not sure of the best approach to take. Usually clients have their site hosted somewhere and built on some platform and ADD a Hubspot blog and the landing pages/cta's, Hubspot tools on a subdomain hosted by Hubspot. Hubspot has tools in it's website settings for adding google analytics (actually it's just a field to add code to the header area). If a client has universal analytics on their primary domain do I still need to go and add a separate analytics property for the subdomain and go through Hubspot's tools to install it on the subdomain? Or just use the same code from their primary domain and add it to the Hubspot header? What is the best route? Any additional thoughts on this subject are welcome - with so much updating and changing coming from Google (and Hubspot as we implement 3.0 - COS) I'm trying to avoid wasted effort, outdated methods, etc. Thanks!

How would you measure the SEO success of new site launch?
It has been 12 months, and it is time for some serious SEO reality check up. I think we have done some really nice things (social integration, on page optimization etc) but we honestly could do a million time better on some other elements (anchor, text, link building etc...). Would love to hear from the community what would be the top 10 criteria you would use to judge the quality of the SEO work done for a new site during is first 12 months. PS: we are a very content rich over 1,500 new articles/post in our niche with 12 months - our site is migraine.com Thanks
