Authorship without Google+ - Ideas and strategies
-
Hi everyone,
I am currently coaching several companies on Content Marketing, Authorship etc and how to implement these techniques at an institutional level - more here.
My question is - Can an author reap the benefits of authorship in all search engines simultaneously without linking to Google + and becoming entangled in the Google Circles phenomena?
I know don't laugh. I know it seems like an ignorant question, but there must be a way. Is there a possibility of doing this with Author Schema's http://schema.org/Article? Will Google treat them the same way as Google +?
My clients are not happy about getting so entangled with Google + and leaving out the other search engines.
Thanks
Carla

Hi Takeshi,
Thanks so much for getting back to me on this one. I am aware of Bing's experiments with Klout and just signed up for it today to test it out. I will be your response to my client. I can see this is a very aggressive move on Google's behalf. I wonder if eventually they will get dinged as Microsoft did on monopolistic behaviors. hehe...time will tell.
Tks for your time! Have a good weekend

The Author schema does not do anything in any search engine yet, as far as I know.
In order to take advantage of Google Authorship, you need a Google+ profile. Google+ is Google's identity platform that they are using identify individual authors. Without Google+, your image will not show up in the SERPs. Without Google+, your friends will not see your contact appearing higher in the SERPs. Without Google+, you will not be able to take advantage of any changes that Google makes to their algo with regards to Author Rank.
In short, no you cannot benefit from Google Authorship without a Google+ profile
Bing is also experimenting with a type of authorship which combines Facebook profiles and Klout scores, but again this has nothing to do with the schema.org markup.

Sure they can, it goes back to the days of articles where they would have an author box at the bottom. If you want to become known then I would try and link it to places where one can read more about the author such as a LinkedIn profile. It can become tedious listing all the authors credentials in the box of every article, it's best they give a snippet to sell them linking to a better source of information about them, be that a LinkedIn profile or their own website.
Google likes to dominate industries but the work around on this one is relatively easy compared to YouTube comments.

What are your experiences with Google+?
Hi all, It would be great to hear about your experiences with Google+. We've tried a few times to use it in the hope that it might give us a hand in SEO terms but it has been utterly painful. Not only because the UI is almost impossible to figure out, but because engagement is essentially 0. Perhaps we're doing something wrong. How has it gone for you? Ross

Google Analytics Social Settings
Hi, I'm a bit confused about the actual purpose of the social settings in Admin > Property > Social Settings. I've read some blogs saying it just helps analyse traffic that has arrived from your social media pages. Then I've found other sources saying you should add your own domain in there so you can track likes and shares sent from your website to social media platforms. What do I actually need to put in there and how does it help my data? Thanks!

I understand Authorship is Dead, but here's a question on the Google+ Profile
I guest write for some blogs, as well as several blogs I manage myself. What is the correct usage of the "Contributor to" field and the "Links" field? Contributor to: The overall blog itself and; Links: To individual blog posts themselves? Or the reverse? Thank you!

Is there a way to set up a business Facebook page without linking it to a client's personal page or having to use our own employee's personal page?
Our clients want us to manage their FB pages. I need to know how we can do this without having to enter through the FB page of whomever set up the business account. I'm aware of the ability of the person who set up the Business page to allow admin access, but that too requires an our employee to give his or her personal FB info for this access. In the same vein, a former employee set up a client's FB page using his own personal account and now when we enter the client's business page, we do not have access to the search window and we don't have the ability to go to other pages to "like" other pages - the button doesn't even appear if we are signed in and search a FB page through an engine. We do have the ability to see Admin settings and metrics but we don't have the news feed, and we have other limited access/abilities. I would like to have a central access so neither client or our employee has to offer personal FB log in information. Thank you, Julie

Setting up Google + Business Pages for Multiple Clients
I am looking at setting up several of my clients with Google Plus pages for their businesses. What's the best practice for doing this? Should I have a separate Google Account for each and set up the Business Page under that account? Are you allowed to have multiple Google Accounts manage a single Business Page - i.e., can I turn it over to the business without having to relinquish my control or give them access to the account I made? Any good tutorials on getting started with this? Thanks! Tom

Finding google + influencers
I'm trying to sink my teeth into the power (or future power) of Google +. I would like to find people who are already well connected with Google + (in the military space). I can easily find Twitter and Facebook lists to see who is being followed and who the active users are, is there anything like that for Google +?
