Redirection Problem
-
Wondering if anyone could offer some tips here please. I cannot share the site name so will try and be as detailed as possible.
My client had their site on a .com domain and have decided to move to a co.uk domain. The new site has been put on the uk domain with more or less the same structure, save for pages which have been removed or merged.
I am now setting up 301 redirects to tell the engines about the moved site, however this is giving me no end of grief. I can get domain.com to redirect to domain.co.uk no problems, however, if I try and redirect any of the inner pages to their new locations they all end up on the .co.uk home not where they should be. Given the homepage isn't designed to rank for all the terms.
The htaccess I am using is below, I cannot see anything wrong with it, can anyone else?
Redirect 301 / http://newdomain.co.uk/
Redirect 301 /villa_rental.php http://newdomain.co.uk/villa_rental.html
Redirect 301 /new_home.php http://newdomain.co.uk/new_home.html
Redirect 301 /http://newdomain.com/villas.php http://newdomain.co.uk/villastyles.html
Redirect 301 /developments.php http://newdomain.co.uk/developments.html
Redirect 301 /solana_hills.php http://newdomain.co.uk/solana_hills.html
Redirect 301 /middle_east.php http://newdomain.co.uk/middle_east.html
Redirect 301 /denia.php http://newdomain.co.uk/denia.html
Redirect 301 /faq.php http://newdomain.co.uk/faq.htmlI have tried both relative and full paths for the old site but doesn't make any difference. Does it matter the old site is php and the new html?
many thanks

Hi Carl,
You should be able to do this with one rule:
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule (.*) [newdomain.co.uk] [R=301,L]Give this a shot and see if it works. It should direct http://www.olddomain.com/villa_rental.php to www.newdomain.com/villa_rental.php and so forth.
Cheers,
Jane

May be totally wrong here, but it is a quick test...
Switch the order of your redirects. First list all the old specific page to new specific page rules. Then last in the list put this rule - Redirect 301 / http://newdomain.co.uk/ (which you currently have first). That may let most of the specific pages do their thing before that general rule sends whatever is left to the homepage.
The way you code your htaccess is a bit different from what I do. Mine has a lot more code for each rule, and some qualifiers like L and NE...
Let us know if it works?

Does redirecting the existing URLs in the website without reducing our current rankings? The new website runs on the bubble, so it seems there is no provisions to redirect the existing URLs to this platform?
Hi Moz Fans, There are some clarification needed in a website revamping and loosing of current website rank. Please go through the questions and would be great if you like to share some insights on it. 1. We would like to revamp our existing website by joining hands with the bubble visual programming platform. Thus, kindly let us know if there are provisions to redirect the existing URLs to this platform. We would also like to know if this kind of redirecting affects the current website ranking. If yes, how can we redirect the existing URLs in bubble without reducing our current rankings? 2. As a part of the revamping of our website, we would like to enquire about the possibilities of its relaunch via bubble. Does it cause any changes for the current rankings of our website if we redirect the existing URLs via bubble? If yes, is there any provision to redirect the URLs without affecting the current ranking of the website?

Affects of a Home Link 301 Permanent Redirect in the Main Nav Bar
Hi I created a home page link in the main nav bar using functions.php request, and this leads to the home page, and it works fine. The logo on the site when clicked, resolves the home page domain.com which is fine. Is it ok to have a home page link in my main nav bar, as well as a clickable logo which on-click returns the web user to the home page also? (any seo implications with the permanent 301 redirects?) I like to give web users the choice especially as not all users are aware that they can click back to the home page by clicking on the logo. I considered breadcrumbs already. Thanks.

301 Redirect all pictures when moving to a new site?
We have 30,000 pictures on our site. Moz will return 404's on some occasionally, but Google seems to ignore those. Should I 301 redirect all those images when we move to a new site lay-out? Appreciate your views!

What should I know about redirecting users based on cookies?
Hi Moz! My client wants to redirect users to a basic or professional version of their site based on cookies. What do we need to do/know to make sure implementation is SEO-friendly? What if a user has cookies turned off? Are there any other obstacles? Thanks for reading!

301 Redirect from Old Domain to New Domain
I am building a new website and I plan to 301 Redirect my Old Domain (olddomain.com) to a brand new Domain (newdomain.com) in the upcoming months. To do this I was planning to update the htaccess file on both the old and new domains. The htaccess file on the old domain would look to 301 redirect all pages on the old domain to the new domain. The htaccess file on the new domain would detail any specific URL redirects I want to implement (ie. olddomain.com/EXAMPLE/TEST will redirect to newdomain/TEST) - this will ensure link equity is retained and bounce rates are kept at a lower level. Does this sound like the right approach? Also, what do I need to do with the old domain going forward? Do I need to keep this forever in order for the 301 redirect to work or can I eventually just forward the domain to the new one permanently?

301 redirect on Windows IIS. HELP! (Part 2)
My webmaster's trying (but struggling) to 301-redirect the non.www version of my site to the www version. He's following these instructions given to me in a response to an SEOMoz Private Question (ah, the good old days!). So far he's 301-redirected the homepage but seems stuck on how to do the entire site. Any clues on what he should be doing?

Is it OK to 301 Redirect http://homepage.com to http://blog.homepage.com?
I don't have a homepage built yet, and I suspect that my blog will be my primary SEO draw in the long term, so I'd like to do a 301 redirect (for the techies, I'm doing it in Django with http.HttpResponsePermanentRedirect ) I just wanted to confirm that this wouldn't cause any problems as Google gets used to my page (it's only been up for a few days) Thanks! -matt

Parked Domain or Redirect
Should I park a domain or Redirect? And what is the best way? I need to switch our domain name. I currently have all of our domains redirecting to our main website. I have set up there own hosting in our cpanel account so I could redirect them to our main domain. Was this too many steps? I tried putting all of our domains in our main domains, .htaccess file, and redirected them to our main website, but they did not work. So that is why I set up there own cpanel accounts. Now they work fine. However, my hosting company told me that I could just park the domain on our current domains account. If I can redirect all of these domain in one place, that would be great. I thought that a parked domain is considered duplicate websites, as both urls work, displaying the entire website with both urls. So Would I have to re upload our entire website to the account that I want as our main domain? Or is there another way of going about doing this?
