New sister site VS site redesign and dangers of SEO dilution??
-
Hi I’ve got a site that is ranking #2 in my area for my chosen keyword but the site is in need of an expansion and overhaul its only one page at the moment and to rank for more keywords its need to be expanded.
Or another option is I do own another domain and I was thinking of maybe instead of overhauling the new site launching that as a sister company aimed more at the corporate market, as my first site is a bit more alternative in domain name and content.
The thing is i'm not sure how this will affect my SEO they will be on the same CBlock and be offering similar services.

Agree with Brad and Andy here - if you can keep this content within the same site, expanding and perhaps restructuring what you already have, that would be better.
Some large corporates (think HSBC, Aviva, etc.) have a corporate site and a customer-facing site - and even then, it can get them into difficulty when the "wrong" site outranks the right one for certain content, like the brand name. In the case of big corporates, it's usually bad for business when a corporate site outranks the customer site, and this happens with annoying regularity to some of them. If it's possible to have all the content on one site, that site's home page is going to be virtually guaranteed to rank for brand terms, rather than there be a battle between a .com and a .co.uk, for example, for some queries.
If your current CMS does not have the capability of building a larger site on your domain, consider investing in a new CMS as long as it makes sense to host both types of content on the one domain / site.

If it were me, and I already had a site that ranked well, I would not want to interfere with that in any way.
I would probably advise rethinking your website architecture. I would create a start page/homepage that invites all visitors to qualify themselves, i.e. click here for corporate business solutions, click here for personal solutions. The created a subfolder for each experience (example.com/corporate & example.com/personal). That way both subfolders can benefit from the link juice already built up for your existing site. Also, make sure you 301 redirect any pages that currently rank well to their new url if it changes. that way you dont lose any of the juice either.
alternatively, if you have no backlinks and completely want to start fresh, then yes, either a new domain for the corporate or a subdomain, such as corporate.example.com

Hi,
The way I always try to explain this scenario, is imagine you are one of the many Google humans that check sites every hour of every day, what would they think if they came across both sites? Would they look at and decide that there was no reason to have a separate site when everything could be said on just one?
If the answer to that is "yes", then perhaps look to either include the new content in the existing domain, or if you feel you need a re-brand, then create the new site with the current pages and new pages, but 301 all current pages over to their new version on the new site.
What you could also look at is a subdomain of the current site. This always gives it a little more of an individual feel to the browsing experience and a separate domain that you can direct a different audience to.

Write new articles or republish old ones?
Hi,
Content Development | | Enrico_Cassinelli
we run a tourism information website about a region in italy, and each year, during special occasions such as christmas, easter and so on we publish an article with a "what to do on Christmas / Easter / .... in the Langhe" (collecting events, activities, etc.). Is it better to "reuse" the old articles and change only the year in the title and of course the content (providing that we are gonna keep the URL without year), or to publish a new one? thanks!0 -
Mobile Version SEO question
Hi there, Quick question on mobile SEO. Basically, I don't think I can effectively format my mobile website design unless I just build it as a collection of pictures. This way it'll be possible to format so it doesn't look a jumbled mess. My question - if my mobile version is just essentially HQ screenshots/pictures put together, how will that affect my SEO for mobile? PS if anyone has suggestions on how I can design my mobile version without affecting desktop I'd appreciate it. I'm using shopify and across many of the themes I've tried whatever I design on desktop has to format on mobile as well. To my knowledge only wix allows you to independently edit the mobile and desktop versions.

Is there a quick and easy way to check a website to see which outbound links open in the browser window and not in a new window?
I have just come across a few blogs on a website that have outbound links that open in the browser window (and therefore direct people off site to these links) (there are also other outbound links that open in a new window)- is there a quick and easy way to check which outbounds links open in a new window and which open in the browser window? Much obliged Liam

I allow authority sites to republish my blog articles, which then outrank me
Hey everyone. This is my first question here, I apologize if it has been covered before. I have a health and nutrition blog [authority nutrition] that has been up since December 1st, 2012. I've managed to write quite a few viral articles which have given me a bunch of natural links and a domain authority of 49, which I think is pretty great for such a new site. Haven't done any link building and everything is 100% white hat. Getting good rankings and good traffic already, so I can't complain. My only (1st world) problem is that sometimes major authority sites (DA of 70-95) republish my content. I always say yes if they ask me first, but some of them just republish without even asking. My articles are always indexed on my blog before they get republished, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. These sites always clearly link to the original URL, but they often tend to outrank me for the keywords I was targeting in the articles. They tend to rank in the top 5, but my original article is nowhere to be found. I plan on continuing to allow these sites to republish as I get powerful links and good traffic from them, but it's a bit frustrating that I don't seem to get the credit as the original source. I've already set up Google Authorship, but it doesn't seem to help. Is there anything I can do to make sure Google recognizes my article as the original and chooses to rank my site instead of the authority site that simply republished my article?

What plugins & tactics are you using for Wordpress meta SEO?
Currently I use All-In-One SEO and I quite like how simple it is to setup and it's stable. Is that still one of the best ones? What are you using these days? Is it worth stripping out the superfluous meta tags that Wordpress now puts in? Is there any value to adding meta descriptions to all my Tag pages and if so, is there a good plugin that will auto magically create unique descriptions for these pages? Same goes for my paginated archives. Thanks!
