Internal anchor text. Should we still use keywords?
-
I have a review site that has approximately 70 category pages.
I'd like to include a few of them (not all 70) in the footer of the page for easy navigation and to direct the crawlers to the best ones.
Is it advisable to use anchor text of "Category + reviews" or just leave it as "Category".
I certainly dont want it to be overoptimized, but I do think its a good usability cue, so I'd be surprised if it was against guidelines.
Any thoughts?

My personal guideline is to make it sound as natural as possible. William and Alan are correct, what you're doing isn't against any rules, and footer links don't hold up as much value - especially because their on the bottom of the page.
Maybe you could do a list that says something like:
See More Reviews:
Category XCategory Y
Category ZTo me, that doesn't sound spammy or clogged up at all. Also, just keep in mind that the more links you have on a page, the less page rank they carry onto other pages of your site.

It isn't against guidelines, but there are a few things you should know. Footer and sidebar links do not have as much value as in-body links. If you can naturally link (not try to shove anchor text in) to some of those categories in the main content of the main page, that would be ideal. If the anchor text isn't perfectly ideal, use alt and title tags to help indicate your focus. Hopefully your site structure is set up in a way that things can be navigated from the top nav, so you don't need to put in footer links for usability.

As long as your link text is relevant to the pages you should be fine.
But footer links are discounted buy search engines. and mostly missed by users. If you want those pages to rank I would be looking at putting the links further up the page.
Also linking to as many pages from the homepage as possible is a good thing, here is a good read about internal linking

What Are other people using in replacement for sliders?
Hello, Moz Community! I am currently trying to replace a slider on our client's site. Sliders, in my opinion, are awful, they slow load times and just don't convey a solid message. I am using Wordpress and the visual composer plugin. Any ideas are really appreciated even they may seem a bit much, if I don't know how to do it I will figure it out. I apologize as well if this isn't the appropriate place for this type of question.

Is Brand name anchor text on a widget Spam
We have partial match penalty in WMT on one of our smaller sites. There are a few (less than 10) instances of widgets linking to us using our Brand Name as the anchor text. Would this fail a reconsideration request do you think? The widget links without the no-follow attribute.

Using a subdomain to improve rankings
I have a pretty simple landing page that at present targets several keywords. Is a good strategy to add a blog to the site on a subdomain with pages targeting individual keywords? Will this help the main domain rank? Also is the best strategy to focus on building links to the home page or individual pages on the subdomain? As long as each page on the subdomain links back to the home page it should pass link juice back to the home page shouldn't it? Thanks in advance!

Have you used Reziew or Reevoo?
We are looking into companies to work with for customer reviews and ratings on our e-commerce site. We want our customers to see what others think and we want unique and fresh content on our site for Google to see and the rating star rich snippets in the SERPs. Two companies we're looking at right now are Reziew and Reevoo. Has anyone had any experience working with them? Any advice for choosing one? Or advice in general about choosing a partner for this? Any other companies you recommend?

The Value of Internal Links?
I have seen countless SEO "experts" suggest internal links are great to help the search engines find your content. I wonder if that is true any more. It seems like a sitemap would do a better job. I think tags may even hurt the content I want to Google to know as most important. I'm using Simple Tags on all of my WP sites. If it "sees" a word in the article that is also a tag it adds a link for that tag to a listing of all the articles with that tag. It only does this once per tag though. Going on the experts advice, I thought this was a good idea. But now, I'm thinking these tags reduce the value of links to my eBook or other content i want to feature. Which doesn't get tagged much since I don't promote it all that often on my site within content. I make it nearly impossible to miss it on the site though. 🙂 What I do see the tags doing is helping users find the content. So I do see it improving the bounce rate and giving uses an assist in finding more content about what they are looking for. I have tags marked as noindex follow. But I'm really considering now removing the links. I hate plugins anyway. 🙂 Seems I'm always finding another must have plugin though. Now I'm thinking I'd be better off to just add links manually into the content that I really want to feature. All these automatic links I'm generating can't be good. Thanks for your thoughts on this.
