Seo benefits to keywords other than specifically targeted?
-
Im a photographer. Im interested in starting a blog on my site with articles relating to photography advise, tips, recommendations, etc...
Will traffic to those posts help my serp rankings to terms i wouldnt specifically target in them?
Say local terms such as my city wedding photographer?
I know the blog posts would help others, and help give me industry authority, but i would like it if in addition it helps drive my local target market to my site.
Thoughts?

Hi Ruben,
How people use your site (like traffic to your blog posts) can contribute to your 'authority', and thereby, your rankings, yes, but you would want to be blogging with your keywords in mind. If you are a wedding photographer with a local business website and you're starting this blog as a vehicle for publishing additional, on-going content, then consider viewing the blog as a showcase of the client projects you take on locally.
So, let's say you're operating out of your physical location in Taos, New Mexico, but you frequently get jobs in neighboring cities like Santa Fe, Mora and Albuquerque. Lacking a physical location in these 3 towns, you are very unlikely to earn Google local pack rankings for them, because that's just the way Google works. But, by steadily blogging about the weddings you've photographed in these other cities (writing about the projects, the venues, showing your photos) you will begin to develop a body of content that relates to your service keywords + these cities. The hope here is to gain visibility in the ORGANIC SERPS, rather than the local ones. If your work is impressive and your writing engaging, this additional organic visibility can help you to start getting phone calls from these additional cities.
That's basically how it works. If you are blogging regularly about your work in these other cities, and your competitors aren't as motivated in their marketing as you are, you have a chance to get into the organic SERPs with the kinds of blog posts that excite new potential customers and encourage them to pick you for their event.
Hope this helps!

Great answer Dennis!
I think a good way to look at it is that if Google sees a blog post and is ranking it well for some search related to photography - they think you are knowledgeable & trustworthy. If they think you are knowledgeable and trust worthy about photography in general, they will assume you are knowledgeable and trustworthy about photography on a local level and reward you as such.
Dennis mentioned some steps you need to take to ensure that Google knows you desire those local SERPS - address citations being the most important. As Dennis also alluded to, there are other steps which you need to take as well to optimize your results, but a blog is a great start.

Hi Ruben!
It will definitely will help.
I'm assuming you will also be putting your business address on the site, so that also help identify you as part of that locality.
Aside from that, using the location on your posts will also help you rank for them.
There are other ways to specifically rank for those local terms, but I think you just wanted to know if your blog posts will rank locally/bring in local traffic.

SEO Questions & Help
I have a woo commerce shop in the firearms industry which makes advertising even more difficult because no FB, IG, or Google campaigns. I do have other sources of advertising but I'm a complete noob when it comes to SEO and the like. I know it exists and its important and that's the extent of it. I was thinking of hiring someone on Upwork to take care of this on my website but what kinds of questions/things I should look out for to keep from getting scammed? Any tips would be appreciated

What Keyword density would you suggest?
I have been experimenting a little bit with desc lengths and keyword density. Sometimes MOZ says keyword stuffing and google ranks higher the page with higher density. Obviously, it can't be artificially packed with keywords but putting more than GWT/SEO suggestions sometimes comes with a good result. What is your Experience? if you decide to extend the description to 5000+ characters would you hide this to Javascript or kept it all on the page? Bottom or Top. Does it really matter? (We are talking about e-commerce category page)

Best SEO Approach for Scanned PDFs
I've just found a large number of great technical papers that we have written over the years. They are all scanned pdf's but still relevant. Currently they exist as a download but it seems to me that as each is approximately 5000 words of unique content we ought to be able to get some mileage out of them So I'm thinking of OCRing them, editing and putting them up as blog post with lots of links (10 - 20 max over the post length) to product pages (as it discusses a lot of the technical aspects underlying the products). Is this the best way of maximising benefit from them? Are there any other ways that would be good to use them?

Ways to generate more targeted traffic ?
We just redesigned our website and the work is still on, but it went live and we are stating to get some good page views now. THE URL is http://www.qubesys.com/blog/ My questions what is the various ways to drive more traffic to such tech blogs. We have an auto social poster app installed which randomly selects from our 350 posts and publishes to FB, Twitter, Google+ of all of our 15 employees every hour. And we get some good Social traffic through that. But what are the other ways ? Shall I invite guest bloggers to submit their blogs into our blog, so they can get a link and we can get some more unique contents ? Or any other methods to get natural traffic, as organic traffic is already happening but its very slow, like 300-500 visits from google.

How many categories should you have within a blog / Wordpress Site for SEO?
Hi Guys I am just wondering whether or not for SEO purposes it is better to have a small number of categories for your blog posts to fit into as opposed to numerous ones. The reason I ask is that I have one site which is fairly new to the search engines - 8 months old which has 7 general categories within the blog for instance "rail contractors", "railway construction" "airport construction" etc I have another site which is 10 years old which has built up 25 different types of categories for instance brand design, brand development, brand management (i guess you could put all these under 1 category "branding"? We've been writing lots of press for both sites... yet the younger site is getting more coverage on Google page 1. Would this be because the blogs / press are more concentrated under a specific category as opposed to being spread thinly throughout the site? Any help would be appreciated. Debs 🙂

Magento Multi Stores and seo
Hello all, im not that clued on SEO and only know the basics so please bear with me! I've just had built 5 different furniture retail websites, all of which will be selling the same products, but all priced differently and all of the sites will have different content etc on each one (4 of the 5 websites are on a multi store system with one back end on magento). The only thing that the 5 sites will have in common is the names of the products in the titles but all the content in the text and prices etc will all be different on each site, including articles and blogs… How will this sit with google in terms of rankings on each site? I know a lot of other companies that do this already and they all have good rankings on each site for their chosen keywords, the only difference between my scenario and theirs is 4 of my sites on the same back end which is mainly the ones i am concerned about… Any thoughts? thanks anthony

What is the best way to bring a blog into my SEO strategy
We have a blog set up with Blogger and generate some great content on it. What is the best way to optimise the blog from an SEO standpoint? In particular the domain name, it is currently .blogspot.com address, is there a better way to work with that? Obviously the blog is branded with our company logo and name etc but is about the book industry. I'm basically concerned about linking people to our blog and not the website and so not getting much benefit?
