Schema Markup for Magento
-
Hi,
I am looking into placing schema on my site that is hosted by Magento.
There are a few different extensions that will automate the rich snippets around our content. Some of them are:
- http://www.magentocommerce.com/magento-connect/google-rich-snippets-for-magento.html
- http://www.magentocommerce.com/magento-connect/msemantic-semantic-seo-for-rich-snippets-in-google-and-yahoo.html
Does anyone have any experience in automating the rich snippets especially in Magento? Did it work? Are there any negative ramifications of doing it this way?
Thank you,
-
Hello Rachel,
I had a look at each of these and probably wouldn't recommend MSemantic based on the user reviews. Google Rich Snippets for Magento only had 2 reviews, which is too little for my taste.
If you want to go with an extension I would start with either of these two, one of which you've already mentioned:
http://www.magentocommerce.com/magento-connect/rich-snippets-suite.html
http://www.magentocommerce.com/magento-connect/seo-rich-snippets-google-bing-yahoo-schema-org.html
You could also take the DIY approach:

Need explanation of Schema
Can someone explain me what it is and what is it used for. From my understanding it is something used by computers to understand language. In other words it is what you can say about an entity. For example a person works, is born somewhere but if I write Mr X flies to as human we do understand but as a computer the computer doesn't understand. Is that what schema is for ? telling me what I can say about an entity using specific verbs so that computers can understand. Thank you,

Product Schema & Google Guidelines
Hi We have product mark up on our site, data-vocab rather than schema. I can't see it showing in Google SERPs, but when testing it appears to be correct. Are Google still selective with what schema they show for a site? Thanks

Recommended e-commerce site search for Magento?
Does anyone have recommendations for any particular site searches for large e-commerce sites based on Magento? Some (hopeful) requirements: Possibility to segment product pages and blog content on results page Doesn't cause any major SEO or technical issues Understands semantic search Ability to filter results Ability to sort (e.g. by price, popularity, new in stock) It'd be really useful to see examples and know if there are any particular issues to be aware of. Thanks. 🙂

Schema.org for LocalBusiness v. Webpage
I am adding schema.org markup for some clients and I am running into an issue. Specifically the site I am working on uses a child theme for Genesis 2.0. Genesis 2.0 added schema.org markup by default to all pages. If I want to change the markup on the home page to a LocalBusiness should I remove ALL other schema.org markup on there for the website (marking nav as nav , header as header, etc)? Or can I leave the markup as a webpage and just add the local business markup as well? When I look at it in the testing tool in GWMT, it just shows the webpage markup not the LocalBusiness markup. You can take a look here: http://blueskyrestoration.com. Thanks in advance for your help!

A Magento site driving me crazy... any suggestion is appreciated
Hi guys, this time it's me asking for help :D. I have a client with a Magento 1.7.0.0 version site: www.mybomboniere.it I audited it, and found out tons of issues, but the one that worries me more is the fault of canonicalization, which is causing serious duplicated content problems. I'm not new to Magento, hence, the first thing I did was going to: First: Going to System > Configuration > Catalog > Search Engine Optimization and setting on "No" the Use Categories Path for Product URLs voice. Doing so I quit all the duplicated product pages. System > Configuration > Catalog > Catalog > Search Engine Optimization and setting on "yes" the voices Use Canonical Link Meta Tag For Categories and Use Canonical Link Meta Tag For Products. Doing this I should see URLs with sort parameters having the URLs without them as canonical The BIG PROBLEM is that even if I did that, I am still not seeing any rel="canonical" tag added to the code. I've tried to figure out the reason of this, but - sincerely - I cannot find one. Secondly, the client created so many categories and subcategories that - honestly - the best thing would be to start cutting some of them. But one thing is what is correct in theory, another what the client desires, and she does not desire cutting any subcategory.

That means that some risk to be a substantial duplicate of others. The correct choice should be to canonicalized the overly identical subcategories to a main one... but this is not possible using the default Magento functions. So, or using an SEO extension (but, which one is the best for Magento 1.7.0.0.? Yoast plugins seem outdated), or using a solution like the second option proposed in this post: http://www.adurolabs.com/blog/technical/how-to-add-rel-canonical-in-magento. The doubt is that the post is presenting it in case of products pages, not categories ones. Hence, is it correct also for them, or do you have others suggestions. Sorry for the long question, but any help will be much appreciated :). Ciao Gianluca0 -
Preserving URL Structure from Os Commerce to Magento
I have a website that is built on OS Commerce and I am planning to transition to Magento. I was told that the transition to Magento would change my url structure. How do I preserve my current url structure while migrating to the Magento platform so that I do not lose my backlink profile.

SEO & Magento Multistore - I have been asked if "duplicatiing" a magento stor using its "Multistore" functionality will cause both to be picked up as duplicate content, can anybody help?
Hello all. I have been asked what the consequences of using Magento's "multistore" functionality are if we were to duplicate our entire magento store and place it on a secondary domain... The simple answer which comes to my mind is that it will be a flagged as duplicate content. However, is this still the case if the site were placed in a different country? The original being the UK the copy being Ireland (both English speaking) How would Google.co.uk & Google.ie treat these stores? Hope this is clear... our site is http://www.tower-health.co.uk
