Redirect 301
-
Hello,
Case study:
I changed all the links from an online store as follows:Before: www.domain.com/store1/category/product (link to a product, in magento e-commerce)
After: www.domain.com/category/product (link to a product).Basically I removed the stores, and made 1 default / base store, and put a 301 redirect (from .htacces).
My question is:
1. How bad i broke the seo, cause i was no.1 on 30 keywords with these structure of links, and these kinds of link had page rank 2-3.
2. Does redirect 301 from old link, transfer the Page rank?
3. I should modify all link from link building to the new link? I mean urgent?
4. Does google will reindex the keywords with the new links?Thank you in advance.
With respect,

Hi!
1. As long as the redirect is properly set, then it's fine. It's out of your hands on what Google will ultimately decide on. From my experience, it just indexes the new url, on the same spot. I drop normally a few spots but bounce back
2. It does transfer pagerank. Some say it doesn't transfer fully which is backed up by studies but for me, I just keep it simple. It does pass PR, how much, is irrelevant because it's usually good enough. Tradeoffs
3. For those that you can change, yes. But since there's a 301, the urgency should be put to your internal structure first. Fix the whole site, make sure there are no holes
4. I'm not sure what you mean, but Google will index the new url if your 301 is there. If you mean rankings, they yeah, it will pretty much appear on the same spot. You might drop a bit though

Expired domain 301 Redirection Strategy of Competitors
I have one simple question about expired domain redirection strategy. I am 100% sure that one of my competitors are using this strategy to rank the website. Is there any tool or method to find out how many domains competitor has redirected to his/her website? Your answer is highly appreciated. Thanks

Tracking Sessions for 301 Re-Direct in Google Analytics
Trying to track clicks for individual slides on a homepage slider. I cannot enter UTM codes on the slide links, just choose from a dropdown containing pages on my site (WordPress). So, I set-up 301 re-directs for all the slides. /slide1-redirect

/slide-2-redirect etc.. Will these redirect pages show up in GA? I cannot see them. I'm trying to create a Dashboard for Homepage slider clicks. John0 -
Redirecting all URLs appended with index.htm or index.html
It has come to my attention with one of my clients (WordPress website) that for some time they have within their Landing Page report (of GA - Google Analytics) URLs that should all be pointing to the one page, example: domain.com/about-us, also has a listing in GA as domain.com/about-us/index.htm Is this some kind of indication of a subdirectory issue? Has anyone had experience with this in such wordpress plugins as Yoast SEO, or other SEO plugin? My thoughts here are to simply redirect any of these non-existent files with a redirect in .htaccess - but what I'm using isn't working. I will insert the redirect here - - and any help would be greatly appreciated. RewriteEngine onRewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^./index.html?

RewriteRule ^(.)index.html?$ http://www.dupontservicecenter.com/$1 [R=301,L] and this rewrite doesn't work: RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^(.+).htm$ http://dupontservicecenter.com/$1.php [R,NC] _Cindy0 -

On Google Analytics, Pages that were 301 redirected are still being crawled. What's the issue here?
URL that we redirected are being crawled on Google Analytics. Since they dont exist, they have high bounce rates. What can the issue be?

High Temporary Redirects: Login required pages
Noticed something interesting, a high temporary redirect report from Moz. Reviewing the pages they are caused by the user having to login and getting redirected. I can see the returnto query in the URL too. My thoughts: Since a login is required and the user is being redirected, these should remain 302 and not 301. I tested my Google Analytics account to **Exclude URL Query Parameter **returnto, just to see if it affected traffic. It didn't, I mean I don't see urls duplicated with the parameter anymore, just grouped together, so traffic is still being counted. I'm going to wait 1 more day and see what impact the GA traffic is before applying the exclusion to my true Google Analytics profile. This got me thinking, I should probably exclude this parameter from Google and Bing Webmaster Tools, that way Google/bing won't read those urls. Now does Moz's crawler follow that? Do you think that would change my moz crawl diagnostic report because I told Google/Bing crawlers to exclude that parameter. What do you think of my approach to reduce these high temporary redirects reported by Moz? Will it work? Has it plagued you?

Redirects to external sites
Hi there, I have listings that all link to external sites. In order to track how many times each link was clicked I coded a redirect script that simply redirects to the respective url. www.mysite.com/go/123/ - redirects to another site www.mysite.com/go/541/ - redirects to a different site Is there anything I should or should not do from seo stand point such as blocking the /go directory in robots or adding a no-follow tag to links? I'd appreciate your advice. Thanks

To 301 Redirect or NOT?
Hi, This site has been so helpful in receiving not only answers to my questions but explanations too. With so many opinions and motives on the internet explanations help one to decide in which way to go. Here is my dilimna, as always, all input is welcome and very appreciated! I have a site that has more links to www.domain.com and less to http://domain.com , however, for our local search and I do not know why - our http://domain.com has better position in search engines and (www.domain.com has way more links) Is there any reason for this? However, in generic term, (no locality mentined) our www.domain.com shows up in the results. My site is hosted on Yahoo webhositng which does not allow for .htaccess 301 redirects, someone on this board was really nice and has alerted me to Godaddy (my domain is hosted there) and introduced me to a DNS 301. I called Godaddy and they said it would be possible, and also told me that I would lose all my email with Yahoo. I have managed to backup the email and am leaning towards the Godaddy- DNS redirect, just wanted to know if I would see a big difference in SEO. Links (different root domains) currently - http://domain.com 55, www.domain.com 1000 plus. Thanks for any input, if amnyone knows.
