I'm getting, "you're not using the rel="canonical" META attribute" in my crawl diagnotic
-
I'm running a campaign crawler through Moz on this particular page: http://www.henley.ac.uk/executive-education/leadership-and-management-programmes/ but I'm getting a notifcaiton from Moz saying, "you're not using the rel="canonical" META attribute"
I don't understand what this means!! Has anyone else had this problem, or can they help me understand what this means and how to fix it?
Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving from the UK!

It doesn't necessary affect your rankings, but it could sometimes mess things up. I would suggest just ask your developer to include it for every page. If two pages have similar content, you may choose to use the same canonical, so that google would index only one of those two pages.
hope this helps...

Hi,
Thanks for your repsonse!
None of the pages on the Henley.ac.uk site have a rel="canonical" on them. Is this a bad thing? Does this effect overall SEO?
Thanks,
Virginia

<code>You should have the below canonical tag in you meta information! This should be available for every page of your website! Check also the information posted by Google (guidelines) on the below link: [https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/139066?hl=en](https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/139066?hl=en) PS. If you view the source code of this very page, it has it's own canonical! This is to help crawlers identify the uniqueness of the page, especially if you have two pages with similar or duplicated content.</code>

Why is on-demand crawl reporting numbers that are very different than the regualr site crawl by Moz?
When I look at the site crawl available through my dashboard, it reports 22.9K pages crawled. I just ran a on-demand crawl and it is only reporting 6K pages crawled. Why is the number so much lower?

Calling all 301 htaccess Guru's - www to non www - then to https + Redirect homepage to inner page
I have tried searching, multiple opinions and multiple things that supposedly work. What I have now, seems to work from an end user perspective, but Roger tells me otherwise: Redirect Chain issue....redirect, which redirects which redirects etc..... FIRST, we need to redirect all www to non www. SECOND, we need to redirect all to https. THIRD, we need to redirect the homepage to an inner page. (Got to love BOGUS DMCA complaints! :)?) So far we have: RewriteEngine on

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.mydomain.com.au$
RewriteRule ^/?$ "https://mydomain.com.au/inner-page-here" [R=301,L] Plus down the page there is the usual wordpress settings: <ifmodule mod_rewrite.c="">RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]</ifmodule> So, why does it seem to work for the end user, but Roger has his knickers in a knot saying, redirect, to redirect to redirect etc? Namaste and many thank you's in advance 🙂0 -
Moz Crawler Causing Server Timeouts... Crawling thousands of non-existant pages with query parameters
Moz crawler is crawling all pages like this: http://www.xxxx.com/?product_count=100&product_order=desc&product_orderby=date http://www.xxxx.com/?product_count=100&product_order=desc&paged=1 http://www.xxx.com/?product_count=100&product_order=desc&product_view=grid Last month it crawled 80,000 pages on a site with less than 100 pages. Is there a way to select only certain pages to be crawled? Right now it is still crawling this site, since Monday morning and it's Tuesday mid-day. Every Monday it is causing time-outs from high band width on our server. Just getting ready to delete this client from the account unless there is a solution someone can give us. Thanks.

MozBot Finding Duplicate Pages That Aren't Duplicate
I've been reviewing the technical audits for my campaign in Moz, and noticed I had a number of duplicate content issues that I'm not really sure how to address. When I click on the links of what the duplicates are, they are all different links that have different content/images. Based on what I was seeing other's wrote in the forum, this could be because the code base is really the same between these pages, and many of these were using query parameters (I'm assuming that is why the code is almost exactly the same across these pages), so example: website.com/tags/KEYWORD1?type=KEYWORD2 is a duplicate of website.com/tags/KEYWORD3?type=KEYWORD4 I was reading that I can use that URL Parameters area in google search console, but my search console says that the googlebot isn't experiencing issues, so I wasn't sure if that was the right move. I can't do the canonicals because these pages all have different content on them, and I know duplicate content is a big SEO issue, so I really wasn't sure what my next steps should be. Thanks for the help!

Moz Crawl Test: Referrer is sitemap.gz?
Hi,
Moz Bar | | Titan552
I'm looking at a crawl test report, and I'm seeing that most of the pages have the sitemamp.gz file listed as the referrer. As I recall in my other reports the referrer is usually the root domain - unless of course there's a redirect. Does having sitemap.gz as the referrer indicate a problem? If so, what problem does it indicate? Thanks!0 -
Moz Report-Canonical
Moz crawl reported in issues: Rel Canonical: using rel=canonical suggests to search engines which url should be seen as canonical. But we have sorted out this a long time ago. Is there a way where can I verify if the moz crawl is wrong or if we really do not specify the canonical?

How do I get Moz to crawl my site?
If I'm not mistaken, Moz will crawl my site once a week and let me know of any errors, notices etc.. But can I ask them to crawl once I have updated all the errors? or do I have to wait for them to do this automatically?
