You have a inside the
but not thethat it is closing. That is just to start. The rest of that code needs cleanup and is mostly unnecessary--you wouldn't need two spans; the letter-spacing has no value, etc.
What is best is to properly define the h1 in the CSS and then use
Your Page Title
.
If you need to modify the h1 (maybe it is defined for a group of pages and on this particular page you want something a little different), do it as simply as possible. (The span attributes in your example probably would not do anything, assuming a white background, though that depends on how the class google-mixed, is defined...)

Can you provide the URL?
Grobro is most likely right. If you have an opening
tag before your
tag, the closing
should be after your closing .

I am pretty sure it has to with the
tag, try the W3C Tool: http://validator.w3.org/#validate_by_input

Does blogging with a wysiwyg negatively affect SEO (vs. hand coding)?
Many bloggers use a wysiwyg editor to write posts. Are there any drawbacks to wysiwyg vs plain text? When I write blogs I prefer to hand code my text to be sure everything is optimized. My feeling is that wysiwyg leads to code bloat and generally fewer optimization opportunities. I have no real evidence. Is there any reason not to use the wysiwyg editor?

Does <hn>placement matter in the code?</hn>
Does it matter if SEO relevant HTML (such as the placement of an H1) is on line 100 versus 2,000? (Editing to provide more clarity)

My question is not related to where the H1 is visually on the page (above the fold or below, etc.) its purely a question as to does the line number in the rendered HTML file impact the power of the H1 on the page. As someone with a lot of SEO experience myself, I don't think when a bot is reading the page HTML it cares where the H1 is - just that it exists (and might have a weight above/below fold).0 -
What on-site issue could be causing Moz to not detect internal links?
Hey guys, We've done a crawl and none of our internal links are showing up. Are there any on-page factors that would prevent Moz from being able to detect our internal links? Thanks!

Disappearing Rel=Canonical Code
Hi, I've been getting a lot of rel=canonical warnings from seomoz. I went into the original pages and pasted in plain text the following code: link rel="canonical" href="http://www.example.com/blog/my-awesome-blog-post"< (the > are reversed). After a few crawls I couldn't see any effect from posting the code. When I went and checked again, it didn't stay in the wysiwyg editor. It disappeared! We are using Drupal 6. Could someone tell me what code I should be pasting? Thanks!

Does Code Order Matter?
I read/was told that it was a good idea to order your HTML to show the most important content first. So, on many sites I had put my global navigation div, for instance, below my main content div. Does this still apply? And does wise use of HTML 5 mean this is no longer necessary (eg use of "nav" section tag to indicate this section is about navigation). In the same vein, how does Google know that my sidebar nav is my sidebar nav (which your site seems to say is probably given less weight than top nav), and how does it know my topnav is my top nav? Maybe a daft question, but when someone asked me yesterday I realised I didn't know! (Phew - at last I have asked a short question!).
