Whats the best way to implement rel = “next/prev” if we have filters?
-
Hi everyone,
The filtered view results in paginated content and has different urls: example: https://modli.co/dresses.html?category=45&price=13%2C71&size=25
Look at what it says in search engine land: http://searchengineland.com/implementing-pagination-attributes-correctly-for-google-114970
Look at Advanced Techniques paragraph. do you agree? it seem like google will index the page multiple times for every filter variant.
Thanks,
Yehoshua

Just be sure that I understand what you're saying:
On pages like https://modli.co/dresses/elegant.html & https://modli.co/dresses.html you want to use rel next/rel previous.
On pages like https://modli.co/dresses.html?category=43&size=25 you plan to use a canonical to https://modli.co/dresses.html
Seem like a good strategy - the only minus is that you would not have a corresponding landing page for somebody looking for "red dress" (page exist on site but points to the generic dresses page). Not sure if these type of queries represent a search volume & if they would be important for your business.
rgds,
Dirk
PS You should check the H1 you use on your pages - on https://modli.co/dresses/elegant.html the H1 is "Elegant" - would be much better if it would be "Elegant dresses"

Hi Dirk,
I do not won't this pages to be accessible since then we will have lots of duplicate content.
Before i added canonical tags to all the category pages, lots of them where indexed by google (i have no clue way). Therefor we added the canonical.
What do you think of the following:
On all filtered pages have canonical tags to the main category page (the first one)
and category pages without filters have rel = “next/prev”.
what do you think?
Thanks,
Yehoshua

Hi,
You might want to check this article of Google on facetted navigation: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.be/2014/02/faceted-navigation-best-and-5-of-worst.html
In your current set-up - Google isn't indexing pages of type https://modli.co/dresses.html?category=45&price=13%2C71&size=25 as these pages are only accessible using javascript (you can check this by crawling the site by using Screaming Frog or just using site:modli.co in Google) - so adding the rel next/previous will not change a lot for these pages.
If you want to make this pages accessible you will have to
- make this pages accessible using HTML links rather than js
- rewrite the parameters in your url's to make them more understandable for Search engines (https://modli.co/dresses.html?category=42 should become https://modli.co/dresses.html?category=elegant)
- use rel next/previous if pages are spread over multiple pages
- use canonical url's to eliminate parameters irrelevant for search (like size, price,...)
- eliminate potential duplicate content issues: both https://modli.co/dresses.html?category=42 & https://modli.co/dresses/elegant.html are showing elegant dresses
Hope this helps,
Dirk

Is rel=prev/next necessary for ecommerce?
We are currently not using rel=prev/next for paginated categories. My predecessor instead canonicaled paginated pages back to the parent. This obviously needs to be fixed. The pages should self-canonical. Is using the parameter handling function of Google Search Console enough, or do we need to have our dev team implement rel=prev/next?

Guest Blog post best practice considering time/energy
Good morning Moz community 🙂 What do you guys think would be the best practice as a starting blogger offering guest articles to other 3rd party blogs when it comes to building up my own website's SEO points (assuming I have a link in the guest article to my website). 1. If I have the opportunity to post the guest article on two+ different blogs, should I go for it? -OR- 2. Only post the article on one specific blog and write a different one for the others? In a world with unlimited resources, the latter option would prevail, but considering that it takes time to write, what would you recommend if I am trying to build my websites SERPs? Carlos

What are the best ways to fix 404 errors?
I recently changed the url of my main blog and now have about 100 404 errors. I did a redirect from the old url to the new one however still have errors. 1. Should I do a 301 redirect from each old blog post url to the new blog post url? 2. Should I just delete the old blog post (url) and rewrite the blog post? I"m not concerned about links to the old posts as a lot of them do not have many links.

What would be the best domain choice?
Hello I got a website www.keywordCA.com and I'm ranking #1 spot on "keyword" but what I notice if you have the exact match you get more site links and etc. Like this keyword that match with my domain name "keyword CA" The ideal name will be www.keyword.com but is taken and the owner don't want to sell the domain (at least he is not using it, is just parked) and I also got the domain www.keyword.net Do you think www.keyword.net will be much better than KeywordCA.com in order to get more exposure and google will generate more site links?

How to quickly up your PA/DA?
Okay people, so far i've actually tried a lot of things and analised a lot of data provided by SEOMoz and i already made a lot of changes. Still one of my competitors stands on the number 1 position in Google. Their page ranks F for the keyword and my page ranks A. I can only come to the conclusion that there is another part that plays his part here. So i basicly found this informatie: Page Grade: My site: Grade A Competitor: Grade F Page Authority (PA): My site: 49/100 Competitor: 62/100 Domain Authority (DA): My Site: 39/100 Competitor: 55/100 Total Links: My Site: 1188 Competitor: 8250 FB Shares: My Site: 15 Competitor: 14 FB Likes: My Site: 2 Competitor: 1 Tweets: My Site:6 Competitor: 7 Google+: My Site: 3 Competitor: 0 I already made some adjustments to my facebook fan page so it can recieve more likes then before. I think the main issue is located in the PA en DA factors. What do you guys think and what could i do to quickly increase my PA en DA factor (PA is the most important one i think). hope to hear from you soon
