Same content but translated. Penalization?
-
Hi There,
I’ve got a question. There are two website that are under the same proprietor but must stay not related (different brand, different IP, different country, different language). The question is: Does google penalize one of the site if I entirely translate the content from site 1 to site2?
Thank you very much for you input

Thanks a lot for your answers...it's all more clear now.
Have a lovely day

If the web sites are "separated" in term of business or need to be so because of a company decision, then you don't need to use the hreflang annotations, also because, honestly, they are in two different languages and targeting different countries and don't share the brand name.
Geotargeting the sites to their corresponding countries in Search Console (which is automatic, if your sites are under country code level domain names), earning local visibility with links, citations and social mention, as well having a well done content localization is more than enough for a situation like yours.

No.
Translated sites are not duplicated sites, hence don't worry and proceed (if it was so, almost all sites going international would be banned :-)).

Thanks for your replies
The sites will sell the same product but will have different brand name and each of them will belong to a different country with different languages. So it is possible for me to transfer the same site structure and translate the same content (or at least 95%) but I don't want the sites(brand) to be related.
Therefore the possibility of adding hreflang tags to point from site1 to site2 might be not the best option since I don't want them to be associated, right? Yet I don't want to risk a penalization...What do you think?
Cheers

Hi there
If I am understanding correctly, you're saying you want to take content from Site A and translate it to be placed on Site B?
I would look into the following:
Hreflang attributes (Google)
Language tags (Bing)
Country Targeting (Google)
Geo-Targeting (Bing)
International SEO & Checklist Out of curiosity, how do you plan on keeping these sites unrelated when the content will be a translation? If you take the steps above you should be able to avoid a duplicate content issue, but you're going to want to consider the user experience and creating content that speaks to the users of that region or country.Hope this helps! Good luck!

If you would have 1 site in Dutch and the other one in English then you shouldn't get in trouble. You're just adding value for your users to have the site translated in their own language. What I would do though is look into the possibility of adding href lang tags to point from 1 site to the other site to tell the search engines that your content is also available in another language.

2 Domains, 1 Brand - Content Marketing Strategy Question
I have a customer that has two separate locations for the same business on two different URLs (both connected via Landing Page). I cannot change this. They are in the powersports industry (snowmobiles, ATVs, motorcycles, dirt bikes, etc). The locations are about 10 miles from one another, essentially sell the same brands & products (there are 1 or 2 exceptions), have the same target audience (local & from out-of-state), and have the same goals. They currently rank #1 and #2 for their industry in their area. They now want a content marketing strategy. I face limitations with the CMS (no blog abilities and technical issues that are out of my control), and content marketing can really only consist of custom graphics & custom page creation. Typically, custom pages are utilized by creating Brand Pages describing the major brands to built out authority in those categories, and then try to branch out from there to create individual product-category pages with more unique content to answer more of a question based on the intent. I am very concerned about creating content that will be too similar between the two locations and will thus compete with the other location, so I am thinking I should devise a completely different strategy for 1 location over the other. Is that a good idea? I think with the smaller location, I choose the typical route of creating brand pages, product pages, etc, and then with the bigger location, try to focus on unique content such as buyer's guide, local SEO ideas about the area, FAQs, testimonials, etc. Thoughts/ideas?

Could this be an issue with duplicate content?
Hi everyone, I am working with a business consultant in the HVAC industry and doing SEO for 8 of his clients (all HVAC businesses from around the US and Canada). Each website is essentially a mirror of the business consultant's website with really the same information-- it applies perfectly well to each individual website, but it IS nearly, if not, identical. I'm getting ready to implement a blog on the original HVAC page and have been considering using the same content (customized to reflect each business-- but still the same information) for blogs for my other 8 clients. My questions are: 1. Is the mirroring of the website a duplicate content problem? Example if you're interested: http://www.mcair.com (original) and http://www.jpsheating.ca/ (client). 2. Is using the same blog across 8 different website (customized for each client but the same basic information) a duplicate content issue? For example-- a blog about getting your air ducts cleaned... the information is going to be the same (and relevant) with each business and each business could benefit from sharing that information with their customers. Thanks so much for your help and explanation

How much duplicate content counts as duplicate content to Google?
Hi everyone! I've had a look through some duplicate content posts and I can't see the answer to this query, so I thought I'd ask in case someone could help. I've been looking at a website that competes with the site that I work on. They have profile pages containing content that has been copied and pasted straight from the suppliers' websites. Their pages have all their own code framing the content, which is diluting the concentration of duplicate copy. How much duplicate content can a page have before it gets penalised or ignored by Google? Any suggestions very gratefully received 🐵

Duplicate Content Penalty
If our pages are to have roughly 30% of non-original textual content, can we be penalized by Google? Or are we OK as long as this non-original content is relevant to the pages?
