Moz Weekly Keyword Ranking Received seems inaccurate - Australia
-
Hi,
We have so many website being tracked in Google AU and we see too much ranking change ( both positive and negative ) but all inaccurate from MOZ. Our Manual Testing result matched correctly with Google where as moz results inaccurate. Is there anything happening .
Our Website: http://www.gardenshed.com.au/
E.g : Garden shed - Moz Reported Rank #4 - Actual Rank : 11
Garden sheds - Moz Reported Rank #7 - Actual Rank : 23
similarly for all other projects .

The same thing happens to me, and I check my rankings in an inkognito Chrome window. Does anyone know why I am seeing discrepancies?
-
Hi Jordan,
Yes, I agree with your results. "For Melbourne specifically, my results returned an 11 in the SERP and 12 within Moz: http://www.screencast.com/t/PN4rXC1xyw"
But I failed to mention that above ranking i mentioned is for Google Melbourne. But I dont see MOZ results anywhere close to what it is. . See the screenshot here http://imgur.com/50Ntt2r.
Even now it shows there was a huge drop in ranking but it never happened as we track it regularly.

I popped over to Google AU, and created a profile for Australia using the MozBar to emulate national results. Here you can see that the current ranking as reported in the 'Analyze a Keyword' section aligns with the results in the Google SERP: http://www.screencast.com/t/9YA7otPL1
For Melbourne specifically, my results returned an 11 in the SERP and 12 within Moz: http://www.screencast.com/t/PN4rXC1xyw
So, the only thing I could recommend would be to check your browser settings to make sure that you're removing as much personalization as possible when checking your keywords.

Hi Joe,
Thanks for your reply. But as I mentioned before we are are of the location based results . But the issue is it doesn't match both Local and National search results.
-
Hi Jorden,
We clearly understand that location factor influence the search result. But I thought that's why MOZ introduced localised search result based on city. Isn't that accurate and one more thing from our research team that even national results for those Local business we are tracking also does not match.
The one sample I gave above is the clear example. "Garden sheds - Moz Reported Rank #7 - Actual Rank : 23" Results doesn't match both Local and National results.
-
The discrepancy here is that Moz is querying Google in a process that completely strips personalization from the query, as Joe mentioned. This means that it's more representative of a national average for all searchers in the country, but it also means that you may not be able to reproduce these exact SERPs within your browser because your location is factored into your search results :).
If you'd like to check out a bit more info on rank tracking methods, I'd highly recommend this article by Dr. Pete: https://mza.seotoolninja.com/blog/comparing-ranktracking-methods-browser-vs-crawler-vs-webmaster-tools

It's important to remember that Google search results typically change depending on the local area. I imagine the results you are manually checking are different from National ranking which MOZ is detecting. You can change your search settings in Google to define how you want your results to show.

Feature request for Keyword Explorer
I posted this suggestion as a comment to a recent Moz blog post, but I thought I would add it here as well. I'm really digging the new Venn diagram view in Keyword Explorer and the ability to easily switch between various combinations of competitors. One feature that would be REALLY helpful (in addition to expanding to other countries) would be the ability to filter the keyword lists by specific strings. An obvious use case for that would be to filter out brand names -- I want to see how the comparisons look with non-branded keywords only. Another use case: Let's say I and my competitors have multiple product categories in common. It would be helpful if I could filter on some of the major head terms representing each of those product categories separately.

Moz's New Video Ads on YouTube
I've enjoyed Moz's new video ads and want to share them with colleagues, however am unable to find the vids anywhere other than when they're delivered before a video plays on YouTube. Are they available on demand? If anyone is unfamiliar with the videos I speak of, they are new ads for Moz products like Keyword Explorer, Mozbar, and MozCon. Thanks in advance!

MOZ Campaigns Down?
MOZ Campaigns has been displaying a blank page in the last 2 hours. Is anyone else experiencing this outage? I have attempted to access MOZ via an iPad and an iPhone using Safari and Chrome. My geographic location is France.

New SERP Features Cumbersome. Bring Back the Old Ranking Setup!
Does anyone else hate the new SERP Features section? Well, let me start over. I do not hate that section, I hate that that data was removed from the main rankings page. It was very convenient to be able to see that my site was ranking # for organic and also listed in the Local listings. All in one place. Now, I have to go to 2 different places to get that data. When you are tracking more than 5 keywords, going back and forth will make your head spin. (Yes, I know you can get all the data in a cv file. That's still an additional, unnecessary step when you need a quick ranking update). Also, when the local/image/video/etc. emblems were shown on the main ranking page, you could hover over the emblem and see who was ranking on the first page for that vertical. Now that data is completely gone. Suggestions for where to find this data? A bright local membership? Thanks for listening to me rant. Moz, if you are listening, please bring back the old ranking page!

Suggestion for better UX when using Rank Tracker
Hi, I'm an avid fan of the Rank Tracker tool. You enter the keyword, the url, select subdomain or exact match URL, pick your search engine, and then... Then I have to look for the country in question via an old fashioned dropdown list. Sigh... you're stealing precious seconds from me everytime, esp. considering there's not a smart search function included. Why can't I have a button right next to it, with my favorite / often used choices?

Change Keyword tracking from national to local
Hello I read that now it's possible to change tracking of keywords from national to local? Is this correct as I can't seem to work out how to do it. Thanks Sam

Is it possible to view keyword rankings over the past 13 months?
The keyword rankings bar graph is a great visual representation to provide clients, but most clients like to see the past 13 months (vs. 12 months) so they can compare the current month to last year. It'd be great if the latest [monthly] keyword rankings showed all the way back to the same month last year (Ex. If I was looking at the keyword rankings for December 2015, all the way back to December 2014 would be graphed out.)

MOZ should add a toxic link checker tool to their incredible arsenal of SEO tools. Seems like a no brainer.
Checking the health of a back links especially on new accounts is crucial. MOZ wants to be a one stop SEO tool shop and I think this would certainly go a long way in cementing that.
