Dissapeared from Google - Urgent
-
We are new to the whole SEO thing and could be described as total numpties as we have hidden away from it, scared of what it means and what might happen if we open that can of worms. But after seeing a 25% drop in visitors over a year, and a continued fall, we thought we better try and get our heads around what we need to do to improve our chances on google.
Consequently we have signed up to MOZ and are exploring its crawl results and trying to learn and action things.
Today we noticed that we have dropped fairly completely from Google for many of our top key words.
We are based in Italy, our site is in Italian and we only target Italy.
Our homepage is http://www.shoechic,it and two of our top keywords that have dissapeared are: "scarpe sexy" & "Scarpe Pleaser"
We would love to hear if anyone can throw some light in why this dramatic change may have taken place and what we can do to address it.
Many thanks in advance for anyones help and advice.
Philip

The thing is, it could be so many things. The audit will help you narrow it down and you'll learn a lot along the way.

Hi Donna
Thanks for your feedback, that entirely what we were discussing earlier today and are intending on doing. Just would have been nice to understand how and why such a big drop happened overnight, rather than gradually. Also, why for the longest time we have been ahead of our competition, still I guess with SEO, thats just the way it goes, no-one seems able to answer the mysteries of google
Thanks again for your feedback

Hi Valter,
I eyeballed the site and scanned it for obvious errors. I don't think there's a quick fix to your problem. Your competitors are doing a better job of optimizing their sites and yours needs a lot of work. I think you know that already.
If you're especially concerned about ranking for "Scarpe sexy", I suggest optimizing a single page for that search term. Start by learning on-page optimization and see where that alone gets you. Then consider auditing your website or hiring someone to help you with that. That way you'll be able to get a big picture view of what needs to be done and set priorities.
You are still ranking for "scarpe pleaser". Here you have a single page focused on the "scarpe pleaser" topic (http://www.shoechic.it/scarpe-pleaser-flamingo-fla887-fhbrb-19062-p.asp) and so you're managing to rank, just not as highly as you'd like (#28).

Salve Enrico
Thanks for your tips.
We are literally at the start of things where SEO is concerned and I have no doubt that our site is full of errors and things that could be improved on,hence our finally taking our head out of the sand and starting to understand and address these things.
As things stand today, we have 0 errors on Google, absolutely nothing, yet our MOZ crawl identifies literally thousands of erros, so trying to understand that is difficult in itself. On top of that, and what is currently a major issue for us is the fact that "scarpe sexy" which we ranked1 (Google.it) for has according to MOZ dropped 48 places in this latest crawl, yet if we actually search for us on Google using that term we don't appear anywhere.
How we have gotten away with doing as well as we have up to now is a mystery, but seeing whats happening now on a daily basis gives us great concern, and as previously mentioned trying to find the solutions and or the reasons why is like asking for the secret of life LOL.
I am grateful for your feedback, and can assure that those things you mention are being addressed, but I am not convinced that they are the reasons we have suddenly dissapeared from Google.it.
Best Regards
Philip

Hi Philip,
I'm italian too Nice to meet you.
From a quick peak at your site I have seen a couple of problems (IMHO).The most important is that many meta descriptions and page titles are basically a collection of keywords: scarpe ...., scarpe...., scarpe... and/or with spelling mistakes. This is not only bad for pure ranking pursposes, but it's also going to reduce the CTR from SERP pages, because as a user, if you see these kind of results in a search page you're not really keen to click on them.
Second, maybe a little longer text on the product page would help.
Also, some of the title tags and metadescription are duplicate.

Google is indexing urls with parameters despite canonical
Hello Moz, Google is indexing lots of urls despite the canonical in my site. Those urls are linked all over the site with parameters like ?, and looks like Google is indexing them despite de canonical. Is Google deciding to index those urls because they are linked all over the site? The canonical tag is well implemented.

My site's articles seem to never show up in Google.
This is in regards to a previous post that was answered for me:
On-Page Optimization | | Ctrl-Alt-Success
http://moz.com/community/q/my-site-s-name-not-ranking-in-google I was talking to a friend and he suggested I try to type in an article in google with the exact name followed by my site's domain name without the .com For example, I have an article entitled: "MULTITASKING IS BAD FOR YOU, MKAY?" Obviously it's a title most would not word in that way. I typed it in and followed it up with my site's domain minus .com. So "MULTITASKING IS BAD FOR YOU, MKAY? ctrl-alt-success" But I'm not even getting listed in the search. There's got to be something I'm missing. I understand backlinks are important for ranking, but when I'm trying to find an exact match along with my site's url minus the .com? I just have this strong hunch that something is awry. NOTE: It seems this is only with google. If I use Bing or Yahoo, it comes up just fine.0 -
Why am I ranking on both Bing and Yahoo and yet the rankings are declining on Google
I'm seeing ranking go up on both Bing and Yahoo and yet they are going down on Google. I did see a bunch of spammy links show up about a month ago but have managed to get all those taken down although did not get any warnings from Google in Webmaster tools about them was more of a preemptive measure. The site in question. http://www.gocitrusnow.com

How long would it take for On-Page Optimization to have an effect on Google Rankings?
Hi there, I have a page on our website with an Interview with the author Tess Gerritsen. There has been a reasonable amount of Social Media buzz related to the page and lots of links. According to SEOMoz we are an A grade for the keyword Tess Gerritsen, we currently rank 29th on Google.co.uk for a 'tess gerritsen' search. My question is - how long would it take for any new changes to have an effect? I presume the answer would be whenever the page is crawled again. But is it wise to change one thing, then get crawled and see what the effect is, then the next day change something else and see what the effect is. Or is it wise to change one thing and then leave it a week or so to see the full effect of the change? Apologies for the vague question, if you need any more clarification just let me know. Thanks. Benj
