Placing video testimonials on website vs. YouTube
-
We have produced a number of video guest testimonials.
Any SEO considerations or other hosting it on our website (what software to use?) vs. YouTube (and just embedding it on the webpage)?
Are there certain situation or circumstances when YouTube is not the best choice for placing video on a website?
Thanks.

My memory is a bit vague here but it should put you in the right direction.
When you choose to embed videos there should be an option for "play related videos" or something similar. Make sure to not select that box. It should add a parameter to the URL along the lines of "&rel=0".
For advertising, if you are a YouTube partner channel, then you can disable ads on any of your videos. Otherwise, as long as you do not include any copyrighted material in your video I believe you are ok. This includes the audio track.

Thanks for the thorough response. It's clear that YouTube is the way for us to proceed. Forgot that it's the 3rd largest search engine.
Clearly the advantages are significant.
I'll have to see how to control for competitor links and advertising.. hopefully this is not too technical.
Thanks for your great help.

The best location to host videos would depend upon the content of the videos and your overall goals.
YouTube hosting offers:
-
#3 ranked website in the world. Huge user base
-
Google owns YouTube. When I post a video on youtube I consistently see it listed in Google within 2 hours.
-
YouTube offers the videos in many formats. If you upload in 1080HD, it will be offered in 240, 360, 480, 720HD, 1080HD so users can choose the version they prefer based on their connection quality. Also YouTube uses a Content Delivery Network which significantly improves playback speeds by offering local servers for users.
-
YouTube comments and thumbs up/down is very popular means of engaging users and generating content.
-
your videos may contain unwanted ads or links to other videos from competitors if not set up correctly.
Vimeo and other video hosts:
-
not as popular as YouTube, but each has a dedicated user base and is most likely more popular then your site. Sharing an occasional video on these sites will add exposure for your videos.
-
the other points mentioned for YouTube apply to the many other providers, but to a lesser degree
Local hosting
-
while you could offer the video in many versions and offer a CDN, most websites used by small companies do not so you miss out on those advantages. If videos do not play back smoothly, the user experience is significantly lowered.
-
video content takes a large amount of disk space and bandwidth which can be a cost issue for small sites
Most often small sites can host the video on YouTube or Vimeo then display the video on an embedded player from their website.

Is a website with no images really a good idea?
I have a client who doesn't want to use any images at all on her website. It's a local hvac service provider. This thought has never even crossed my mind before. Who wouldn't want pictures? I know image optimization is important, and my mind keeps telling me that images are important for a good site and good user experience, but are they really necessary? I want a second opinion before I advise against not using any images.

Genuine Reciprocal Google Places Reviews, is that OK?
I have a client who works with other businesses, is it OK to have reciprocal reviews going on, they would be genuine reviews both both sides as they work for each other. Is that OK? Is it best for my client to use the Google Account that holds their Google Places page for doing the reviews? Or should they have a separate account for writing reviews, not associated with their business? I would appreciate your thoughts on this please? Many thanks Leo

Video hosting - SEO
Hi, We host all of our videos on You Tube and use embedded links to display on our site. When people search keywords related to our videos they are linking back to You Tube through SERPs. Is there a way link SERPs to websites instead of You Tube? Any advice would be appreciated. Sean

Question Regarding Multiple Google Places Pages
Hello, One of my clients has about 20 different google places pages at locations that are not real. The previous SEO company thought that would help with local search. My problem is that several great reviews have been written on each page by real customers. I want to close the places pages for locations that don't exist, but I don't want to lose the reviews. Is anyone aware of a solution for this? I have searched Google's forums and have not found anything.

I didn't get update or change in my videos even if the keywords are low competitions.. but when I read many posts & experts say that getting backlinks to your youtube video or VSEO count by google and we should doing it! the only way I've found to improve your youtube video ranking in google is to add it in blog & use video sitemap! but I'm also use video to direct affiliate link & there where I think backlinks should work to help me. I would to know from your experience is that worth to do or not or if backlinks for youtube are link ping we should do it directly when we upload video? PS: any info or idea you've it can be a very helpful solution for all! thnx

Will linking to my citation sources help google recognize them / credit my places account?
Or does google treat this behavior the same way as a reciprocal link and discount any credibility of the citation?
