Can you help me find out why these competitors are outranking?
-
I have been compiling metrics comparing this site (http://brightandclearpools.com) with two competitors (http://www.barracudapoolservice.com/ and http://peoria-pool-service.com). Nothing is really screaming out to me why they are outranking Bright and Clear Pools. BCP has
- higher page and domain authority
- stronger citation profiles
- more customer reviews
- more content
- better site/on-page optimization
This is for
- organic rankings,
- keyword phrase 'pool service Peoria',
- I am using the Peoria geomodifier in an unpersonalized search.
Although the client would be using both the keyword phrase with geomodifier 'pool service Peoria' while using a device in the Peoria area. An attachment for user metrics are in the response below.
Is there something I am completely overlooking? Your feedback will be so helpful. Thank you in advance for taking the time to help me look into this!

My pleasure, Ryan, and good luck with the work ahead!

Hello Miriam,
Thank you for taking time out of your day to help me look into the issue. I see the issues you mentioned. I agree this is a great place to start.
I'll begin looking through the site and creating more unique content, and see how that might influence rankings. Thanks again.
-
Hi Ryan,
Thanks for the clarification. While the site is very appealing visually and I can see the work that has gone into it, I believe you have a duplicate content issue going on. For example, I cut and pasted this text from your Carefree Systems page, "An ionized pool is one of the greatest pleasures you will experience. Once" and it is coming up on multiple websites. Check this out:
Let's try another. From your Ionization page text, "pool vacuums first came out. Today you probably won’t"
So, this would be my first top priority with the site. Discover all duplicate content and write fresh, unique content for the pages. I also noticed that some pages have very little text on them. It's worth it to take the time to really write out the very best, most complete and engaging content you can for every single page you publish on the website.
I cannot say what percentage of lower rankings than competitors may be being caused by duplicate content, but it certainly is a red flag. Hope this insight is helpful as a place to start.

Thanks Josh! I attached the user metrics to the response above.
I don't have access to any paid software besides Moz Pro. To test I am using Moz OSE to view link profiles, and reviewing SERP's and competitor sites manually.

Forgive me for being sparse on the details. I appreciate the help! This is for
- organic rankings,
- keyword phrase 'pool service Peoria',
- I am using the Peoria geomodifier in an unpersonalized search.
Although the client would be using both the keyword phrase with geomodifier 'pool service Peoria' while using a device in the Peoria area.
User Metrics attached. Thanks again!

Hi Ryan,
I'll be happy to take a look at this with you. Would you be able to answer a couple of questions please?
-
What keyword phrase are you wondering about? Is it 'pool cleaning', 'pool service'?
-
Are you asking about local pack rankings or organic rankings?
-
Are you adding a geomodifier (like Peoria) to your search term? If so, what is it?
-
Or, are you not adding a geomodifier, but are simply searching from your device based in Peoria (or some other city)?
These details will help clarify this for the community. Thanks!

I need some help with my addresses, please.
I've only ever had a mailing address for my business, but I now have a new physical address which I use to meet clients at, and it's in a different city. There's no mailing address at the physical location though, so I'm keeping my mailing address at the post office where's it always been. What should I do about changing my address? Should I change it, or leave it alone? I could add it easily to my website, as a physical address and a separate mailing address. But what about my Google Maps listing, social sites, and citations? I rank at the top for my keywords in my original city, so I don't really want to lose that. Would it be a good idea to add a location/landing page to my website for the new city, to help me rank there? Hope that made some sense - thanks in advance.

How can we better control GMB photos on Google SERPs?
Has anyone had luck choosing photos to display on SERPs for their Google My Business profile pages? Recently, Google has been overriding our photo choices and they've picked some terrible, user-submitted photos to show on SERPs. Our clients are understandably upset about this and we've tried flagging photos which works only a small % of the time. When we call Google they say they can luckily remove individual photos, but this isn't too scalable across dozens of clients we work with. How can we have better control over the photos that show on GMB listings? Any suggestions or best practices would be appreciated! Attached is an example of one we have showing on SERPs for a dealer. HELP! Google Local dropped!
I noticed that my Google Local page does not show in any search results anymore. Looking at Moz Local, it appears that I had 250 views on August 30th and 0 after that. It just dropped overnight. I looked at Google My Business and I noticed that I had a duplicate listing (no idea where it came from). It wasn't verified though. I deleted that. I also noticed that my address has been changed to Drive instead Dr. I was very careful in making it the same everywhere, but it changed without me changing it. Perhaps someone so kindly "suggested an edit" and I didn't see that happen. Anyone have any ideas. My organic search ranking is still strong. #3 for most search terms. And we have a very strong Google Local reviews. I mean, it even shows business that have been permanently closed over me!!! And we have photos, great reviews, and regularly post to Google+. I seriously need some help. I am a small business owner that does all of my own SEO because I can't afford a good SEO. 😞

Client Being Outranked by Horrible Websites with No SEO--Help!
Hi guys, We have a client that we are having some issues with. We have done extensive directory work for them, website enhancements, etc. so this is unusual. Hermantown is an extremely small city in MN so companies there normally target Duluth. Our client is hardly ranking locally in Google maps or organically yet their competitors are showing up who have horrible websites, no SEO, and located in the same city—Hermantown yet showing up locally for Duluth searches. We just can’t seem to move up the ladder no matter how hard we try. Here is the company: www.mmtheating.com We are completely at a loss for next steps on how to help this client improve. We’re wondering if there may be a penalty against them for some reason but we always have had very ethical practices. Thanks in advance for your insights!

SEO without a budget and Cheating Competitors
I have law clients in the atlanta ga area. I have worked with one client http://bestdefensega.com for the past 4 months trying to get him to the top. We blog 3 times a week, have manually built citations and legal directory profiles. My client doesn't have a large budget to purchase profiles on some of the larger legal directories like findlaw, lexus nexus etc.. With that said,

Using Open Site Explorer I have discovered that his competition all have multiple business websites pointed back to their main websites.. So each law office has several really generic websites in addition to their main site. Other's appear to be receiving links from some type of link farm and really generic directory sites.
The domains of these guy's are older and more established. Where as, my client has a new practice and a new domain. How do I compete in the local market without a budget for the premium legal directories? So after 4 months my client appears in the local pack search results for only select keywords. Criminal defense attorney woodstock ga. His competition appears in the results for all variations, where my client only shows for this one term. How do I get me client in the local pack for all variations of Criminal Defense in my area? According to Moz, my site has a couple spam score issues and the explanations are not clear enough for me to make some types of changes.
**How do I make these changes to reduce the spam score? My site has more back links than Moz is reporting why?** All of the other sites that I manage perform well and my clients are realizing their ROI with relative ease. But criminal defense is a different beaat and it is starting to frustrate me. RAR! Thanks in advance!0 -

Local Listings SEO: Which multi-location retailers are doing a super job with local listings? I'm also interested in finding retailers who are using schema.org microdata format to structure their store-level data.
Do you know of any enterprise level restaurant or retail chains that are doing a great job with their local listings content? Just looking for some links/examples of best practice executions. Also, I'm very interested in finding retailers or other multi-location businesses that are using schema.org microdata format to structure their local store location data.
