How to change URL structure in google webmasters
-
Is there any way to ask google to indexed the website in following URL structure
abc.com/category/postname (I have this structure on my website)
But Currently google indexed my website posts as - abc.com/postname/category
How I can tell google to follow the right structure?

Hi there
When I access your sitemap at http://www.guitarcontrol.com/sitemap.xml, you'll see it hasn't been updated since 2010. These old URLs point to an old site as well. I would definitely update this!
You'll need to create a new sitemap XML, upload it to your site, and then resubmit it to Google and Bing. You can learn more on how to create one here.
Let me know if you need anymore help!

Hi Patrick,
In webmaster tools, URL is - http://www.guitarcontrol.com/mastering-chords-and-harmony/dvd-preview-clips
But in actually URL is - http://www.guitarcontrol.com/dvd-preview-clips/mastering-chords-and-harmony
So that is the issue? I just need to resubmit the sitemap?

Hi there
Could you provide an example? I am not seeing this in my crawl of your site or on Google. Just want to make sure I am looking for the right thing!
In the meantime, I would check your sitemaps, canonical tags, and internal links to make sure that all of these items are following the proper structure that you wish for Google to follow. I would also check your backlinks and make sure that those are up to date as well.
Chances are Google is finding the indexed URL in it's crawls and more often than not, it's because there's an issue with how it's listed somewhere on your website or in your sitemap. After you correct or find the issue, resubmit your sitemap to both Google and Bing.
Hope this helps! Good luck!
Patrick

We 410'ed URLs to decrease URLs submitted and increase crawl rate, but dynamically generated sub URLs from pagination are showing as 404s. Should we 410 these sub URLs?
Hi everyone! We recently 410'ed some URLs to decrease the URLs submitted and hopefully increase our crawl rate. We had some dynamically generated sub-URLs for pagination that are shown as 404s in google. These sub-URLs were canonical to the main URLs and not included in our sitemap. Ex: We assumed that if we 410'ed example.com/url, then the dynamically generated example.com/url/page1 would also 410, but instead it 404’ed. Does it make sense to go through and 410 these dynamically generated sub-URLs or is it not worth it? Thanks in advice for your help! Jeff

How to recover google rank after changing the domain name?
I just started doing SEO for a new client. The case is a bit unique as they build a new website and for some reason lunched in under another domain name. Old name is foodstepsinasia.com and new one is foodstepsinasiatravel.com OLD one is a respected webites with 35 in MOZ page authority and with +15000 incomming link (104 root domains) NEW one is curently on 0 The programmer has just that build the new website has set it up so that when people write or find the old domain name it redirect to the front page of the new website with the new domain name. this caused that my friends lost a lot of their rankings was so I believ it was a very bad solution. But I also think I can get most of the old rankings back, but my question is what to do now to get as much back of the rankings as fast as possible?? A) I believe I must change the domain name back to foodstepsinasia.com on the new website ? O B) Should I on the old website try finding the url of the pages with most page authority and recreate these urls on the new website or should i redict them to a page with related content? Looking forward to feedback from someone who have experience with similar cases. Thanks!

Newly Acquired Website--Questions on Changing Permalink Structure
I just acquired a new website. The domain is about 7 years old with around 1000 indexed pages in google. Decent domain authority at 34, PR 4, a lot of inbound links. The thing that's driving me crazy is the permalink structure--set up as month/post name in wordpress http://xxxxxxx.com/2015/01/sample-post/ Based on my experience and I could be wrong, but I would think that the structure would be more effective with just post name and no date. Am I absolutely insane at this point to try and change it?

Can I, in Google's good graces, check for Googlebot to turn on/off tracking parameters in URLs?
Basically, we use a number of parameters in our URLs for event tracking. Google could be crawling an infinite number of these URLs. I'm already using the canonical tag to point at the non-tracking versions of those URLs....that doesn't stop the crawling tho. I want to know if I can do conditional 301s or just detect the user agent as a way to know when to NOT append those parameters. Just trying to follow their guidelines about allowing bots to crawl w/out things like sessionID...but they don't tell you HOW to do this. Thanks!

URL errors in Google Webmaster Tool
Hi Within Google Webmaster Tool 'Crawl errors' report by clicking 'Not found' it shows 404 errors its found. By clicking any column headings and it will reorder them. One column is 'Priority' - do you think Google is telling me its ranked the errors in priority of needing a fix? There is no reference to this in the Webmaster tool help. Many thanks Nigel
