Is it wise to target different keywords for each page?
-
I am running a dating site, I am trying to focus on 5 keywords on the index page. My Search page is one of the 4 other pages on the site.
My question, is it wise to target different keywords on these pages or am I better off focussing on the same 5 keywords as the index page?
Thank you,
-
It depends on the competition level for those keywords. If its high, you might want to focus on one mother keyword phrases and couple of child keyword phrases. Trying to rank for more than 1 keyword phrase in 1 page in a high competition scene is not something I'd suggest.

5 keywords on 1 page is quite high, and in my opinion will limit your success rate. I would reduce this to a maximum of 2 or 3 phrases per page, and as you identify new keyphrases build new pages on your site. This way your site will grow organically, and you will start to build the number of keywords in your portfolio.

I would suggest to limit the number of keywords targeted per page. Having just one (or just a few) keywords per page allows you to target them better on-page, and you'll have more targeted incoming links (both in terms of relevance and anchor text) as well.
Targeting the same keywords on all pages might result in so called keyword canabalization as well. Read more on that subject here: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-to-solve-keyword-cannibalization

Moving from Bigcommerce to Woocommerce on WP. Should we redirect size pages into one page?
We are moving from Bigcommerce to Woocommerce on WP. On Bigcommerce, due to some bizarre reasoning the previous developer had 3 separate URLS for the same product in different sizes - S, M and L. Now we plan to have one product page where the sizes can be selected and 301 redirect the 3 urls to the new one. Is this advisable? Or should we just have 3 separate pages. OR should we have one of the sizes pages as the new page and then redirect the other 2 to this one? I ask this because the site has a LOT of ranking power and we do not want to jeopardise that.

New Client Wants to Keep Duplicate Content Targeting Different Cities
We've got a new client who has about 300 pages on their website that are the same except the cities that are being targeted. Thus far the website has not been affected by penguin or panda updates, and the client wants to keep the pages because they are bringing in a lot of traffic for those cities. We are concerned about duplicate content penalties; do you think we should get rid of these pages or keep them?

What do you do with old web pages?
I have a wordpress blog that I've made a ton of changes to. I have about a dozen pages on it that have old information or I no longer have a use for. In retrospect, I probably should have used the old pages for new content instead of building new pages. Should I just leave them on the site with no links to them, should I mark them as noindex, or should I delete them? I think some of the old pages could be completing with my new pages for ranking due to similar content. Website is: http://continuumweddings.com if you'd like to check out my site. Thanks, Melissa

Target the homepage?
Hi SEOmoz! I have a potential client who is piloting a web application in a specific geo market, but plans on expanding to 10+ cities in the near future (6-12 months). He wants to rank for "[initial geo market] + [service]". Should I optimize the homepage for this keyword (which will be relatively easy to rank for), or encourage him to build out a geo-specific template (could take a few months to add this to the application) for this market, and try to rank that so it's scalable? Thoughts are appreciated. 🙂 EDIT: In terms of the business type, this is a web application that helps people organize their travel. It isn't your local traditional restaurant that is trying to compete with others in their area. We would be competing with other nationally recognized travel applications (TripAdvisor, Yahoo Travel, etc), most likely.

Home page ranking dropped below internal pages
The index page for a site I manage has dropped significantly - internal pages rank above it. It's a new site, 2 months old but was ranking at 1st. Any suggestions as to how I can debug this?

Does keyword density on a landing page effect SEO?
I'm relitavely new to SEO, and I just wondered how keyword dense the homepage to our businesses site should be? Is there any value in loading the frontpage at the potential expense of readibility, or should our content elsewhere be responsible for our yield in search engine results? Look forward to any responses. Thanks, Mark
