Recommendation to fix Google backlink anchor text over optimisation filter penalty (auto)
-
Hi guys,
Some of you may have seen a previous question I posted regarding a new client I started working with. Essentially the clients website steadily lost all non domain name keyword rankings over a period of 4-12 weeks, despite content changes and various other improvements. See following::
After further hair pulling and digging around, I realised that the back link anchor text distribution was unnatural for its homepage/root.
From OSE, only about 55/700 of links anchor text contain the clients domain or company name!....8%.
The distribution of the non domain keywords isn’t too bad (most repeated keyword has 142 links out of the 700). This is a result of the client submitting to directories over the last 3 years and just throwing in targeted keywords.
Is my assumption that it is this penalty/filter correct? If it is I guess the lesson is that domain name anchor texts should make up more of your links?
MY QUESTION:
What are some of the effective ways I can potentially remove this filter and get the client ranking on its homepage again?
Ensure all new links contain the company name?
Google said there was no manual penalty, so not sure if there’s any point submitting another reconsideration request?Any advice or effective experiences where a fix has worked would be greatly appreciated!
Also, if we assume company is "www.Bluewidget.com", what would be the best way to link most naturally:
Bluewidget
Blue widget
Blue widget .com
www.bluewidget.com
http://www.bluewidget.com....etcI'm guessing a mix of the above, but if anyone could suggest a hierarchy that would be great.

Thanks for the response, that answer from Rand is definitely helpful.
Do you (or anyone else!) have actual experience of this penalty and getting past it?
I guess I'm looking for some positive assurance before I start on backlinking that could potentially not fix anything

Hey Hash,
I'd start work on building non-keyword links from good authority sites. You need control over the anchor text so start in the usual places (directories) etc. Rand wrote a good Q&A answer on anchor text variations which is worth reading.
Remeber to build links not only to the homepage but to other pages throughout the site.
Personally, I wouldn't bother with another reconsideration request to Google as the number of link you'll need to build is relatively small.

Need advice on overcoming a Google penalty
Here is the situation. Our website for our primary product (www.thetablift.com) has received a penalty by Google. Not long ago we had excellent rankings; (1st page) for some of our primary keywords, like "tablet stand". Now we are not in the index at all. Here is what happened (or at least what seems to have happened in my non-SEO opinion). Around October 2016, we had the "bright" idea to try and emulate a campaign that Eat 24 did, utilizing inexpensive traffic from advertisements on porn websites. The idea was a play on a joke we often hear about our product being perfect for certain activities where one needs to free one's hands while watching a screen. Of course this is not how we market our product (it is a best selling mainstream product), but we wanted to see if we could emulate the success of another mainstream brand that utilized this kind of non-mainstream advertising. The immediate result was a whole lot of traffic, but obviously the wrong kind, as it did not convert. So we pulled the plug after about 3 days. Flash forward several months later and we not only lost our great SEO rankings, but we were removed from Google's index entirely. I assume the reason for this is that somehow the website got dinged for being somehow related to porn. But of course it has nothing to do with that. So the question is: how do we go about getting un-penalized by Google? We had build up some solid SEO over the previous couple of years, and I'd like to get back to where we were, if possible. Oh, and this may or may not be relevant, but we also switched from www.tablift.com to www.thetablift.com a few months before we did this campaign. However, we used permanent redirects and did a textbook changeover, so I don't think that had any bearing. But I can't be sure. What are the steps to reverse this damage, if any? Thanks!

Optimising Shopify Filtered Pages
Hi Guys, Currently working with a couple Shopify ecommerce sites, currently the main category urls cannot be optimised for SEO as they are auto-generated and basically filtered pages. Examples: http://tinyurl.com/hm7nm7p http://tinyurl.com/zlcoft4 One solution we have came up with is to create HTML based pages for each of these categories example: http://site.com.au/collections/women-sandals In the backend and keep the filtered page setup. So these pages can be crawled and indexed. I was wondering if this is the most viable solution to this problem for Shopify? Cheers.

Google not taking Meta...
Hello all, So I understand that Google may sometimes take content from the page as a snippet to display on SERPs rather than the meta description, but my problem goes a little beyond that. I have a section on my site which updates everyday so a lot of the content is dynamics (products for a shop, every morning unique stock is added or removed), and despite having a meta description, title and receiving an 'A' grade in the MOZ on page grader, these pages never show up in Google. After a little research I did a 'site:www.mysite.com/productpage' in Google and this indeed listed all my products, but interestingly for every single one Google had taken the copyright notice at the bottom of the page as the snippet instead of the meta or any H1, H2 or P text on the page... Does anyone have any idea why Google is doing this? It would explain a lot to me in terms of overall traffic, I'm just out of ideas... Thanks!

Can Google Read Text in Carousel
so what is the best practice for getting Google to be able to read text that populates via JQuery in a carousel. If the text is originally display none, is Google going to be able to crawl it? Are there any limits to what Google can crawl when it comes to JavaScript and text? Or is it always better just to hardcopy the text on the page source?

Recovering from an Automatic penalty
My website dropped from ~15 to 500 + for our main keywords in target markets (but are still doing okay in other countries and for other keywords) I cleaned my site up and contacted Google who told me no manual spam actions were taken on my site. The only thing I can think is that we suffered from an automatic penalty (the drop corresponded with a small panda update). If that is in fact what happened, how do we recover? Also feel free to contribute other ideas about what may have occurred.

Optimising a Dynamic website ?
A client has bought the Nostalgia wp theme. I've installed Yoast but because the website is ajax based and the content for the pages are dynamically loaded the plugin won't work. Or at least not to my knowledge? The developer doesn't currently have a solution, which from previous expereience it will never be supported. So I need some possible solutions here. Create a mobile site? Cons more time, more money etc Create non dynamic pages linked in footer area. Cons page duplication etc. It's a small niche so having the basic elements is imperative to getting it ranking.

Google+ Pages on Google SERP
Do you think that a Google+ Page (not profile) could appear on the Google SERP as a Rich Snippet Author? Thanks

Why will google not index my pages?
About 6 weeks ago we moved a subcategory out to becomne a main category using all the same content. We also removed 100's of old products and replaced these with new variation listings to remove duplicate content issues. The problem is google will not index 12 critcal pages and our ranking have slumped for the keywords in the categories. What can i do to entice google to index these pages?
