How can I fix New 4XX Issue on Site Crawl?
-
Hi all,
My recent site crawl shows 27 4xx issues on this website http://www.rrbusinessconsultants.com/
All of them are for 'posts' on this wordpress website.
Here is an example of the issue: http://www.rrbusinessconsultants.com/rr-business-consultants-on-the-rise-of-glassdoor-and-how-companies-are-coping/void(null)
The blog page seems to be creating links ending in void(null) which are defaulting to 404 pages.
I cannot see the links on the site so cannot see how to remove them. Can anyone provide any insight into how to correct his issue?
Many thanks in advance.

Andrew is right: Yoast uses different code for breadcrumbs.
I would start searching inside the theme-files for:
"void(null);" or "void(" or "ilny-breadcrumbs"That should give you a clue to where the code actually is inside your theme.
To show the difference: Yoast's plugin produces code like this:
Hope this helps a bit as well.

Hi Stacey! How is this going? We'd love an update.
-
By the way, you will also want to add a CSS rule for your anchor links in the breadcrumbs, as right now they are transparent. I would add a line of code to your style.css file like this:
.ilny-breadcrumbs a { color: #c0392b; }
Assuming of course that this is the color of red you'd like to use for the link text.
-
Without looking at the template code, it's really difficult to say what's going on. I didn't find a definite match in terms of known issues with Yoast's breadcrumbs. Looking at the body class declaration in your markup, I would assume this particular page is generated by single.php or a similarly named file. Do you have access to the theme's source files where you could paste in the code from this file?
-
Thanks!
We believe it is the YOAST SEO Plugin.
-
The first step would be to identify what plugin is being used to generate the breadcrumbs. If you can provide that info, I could research that plugin for any known issues and/or review it's codebase. This may or may not be all we need to do to resolve the issue but it's a good first step.
-
Hi, I believe this is probably the case.
However, not knowing too much about breadcrumbs I am unsure what sort of 'offending code' I would be looking for and how to resolve the issue.
Could you offer some advice please?
Thank you.
-
In general, the Moz site crawl should point out the page(s) in which the offending link was found, and this is always a good place to start to track down the underlying cause.
I am finding your issue in the breadcrumbs of the post detail page itself. Looking at the source code of http://www.rrbusinessconsultants.com/rr-business-consultants-on-the-rise-of-glassdoor-and-how-companies-are-coping/ I find this HTML code snippet within the breadcrumbs:
[](<a class="html-attribute-value html-external-link" href="http://www.rrbusinessconsultants.com/rr-business-consultants-on-the-rise-of-glassdoor-and-how-companies-are-coping/void(null);" target="_blank">void(null);</a>)
Since you are using Wordpress, I would assume the site is using a breadcrumbs plugin, and this is likely going to be your culprit. My advice would be to inspect the plugin in use and any code or shortcodes that are being used to generate the site breadcrumbs. You'll likely find some offending code causing this unnecessary anchor tag. If you need any additional help, please let me know!

Hi Stacey,
When I inspect the page, I can see that there is something in your header that seems to be injecting this. It appears to be at the end here:
- R&R Business Consultants Inc./ Latest News / R&R Business / R&R Business Consultants on the rise of Glassdoor and how companies are coping****
If I were you, I would check out the header file first to see if you can see the 'void' bit. It isn't supposed to be there so might be something that has been left there unintentionally.

Redirects Not Working / Issue with Duplicate Page Titles
Hi all We are being penalised on Webmaster Tools and Crawl Diagnostics for duplicate page titles and I'm not sure how to fix it.We recently switched from HTTP to HTTPS, but when we first switched over, we accidentally set a permanent redirect from HTTPS to HTTP for a week or so(!).We now have a permanent redirect going the other way, HTTP to HTTPS, and we also have canonical tags in place to redirect to HTTPS.Unfortunately, it seems that because of this short time with the permanent redirect the wrong way round, Google is confused as sees our http and https sites as duplicate content.Is there any way to get Google to recognise this new (correct) permanent redirect and completely forget the old (incorrect) one?Any ideas welcome!

New Mobile Site Traffic Drop
With all the talk about how much mobile is important and how it is going to return its own search results, we finally decided to make a mobile site for one of our smaller websites to test the water. We put it up about two weeks ago and did Vary HTTP header method to serve the site. Before the change, on the average week we would get 270-300 mobile visitors from organic search results and we converted 0.78% to sales. Since the change, we are now getting about 70 mobile organic visitors per week but converting 2.47% So what can I say but WOW. We are converting way way better but our organic mobile search traffic has dropped off a ton. Luckily our desktop and tablet traffic(we serve the desktop version of the site to tablets) has stayed the same and has not dipped. Do any of you guys have experience or gone through launching a mobile site before? Did you see the immediate drop in organic mobile traffic and did you recover your traffic back to previous levels? If so, do you know how long it takes to recover? I am thinking it is a big change and will take time for Google to adjust but I am not sure since the mobile version has so much less text now on the home page and on category or product list pages or whatever you guys want to call them.

Best way to indicate multiple Lang/Locales for a site in the sitemap
So here is a question that may be obvious but wondering if there is some nuance here that I may be missing. Question: Consider an ecommerce site that has multiple sites around the world but are all variations of the same thing just in different languages. Now lets say some of these exist on just a normal .com page while others exist on different ccTLD's. When you build out the XML Sitemap for these sites, especially the ones on the other ccTLD's, we want to ensure that using <loc>http://www.example.co.uk/en_GB/"</loc> <xhtml:link<br>rel="alternate"
Web Design | | DRSearchEngOpt
hreflang="en-AU"
href="http://www.example.com.AU/en_AU/"
/>
<xhtml:link<br>rel="alternate"
hreflang="en-NZ"
href="http://www.example.co.NZ/en_NZ/"
/> Would be the correct way of doing this. I know I have to change this for each different ccTLD but it just looks weird when you start putting about 10-15 different language locale variations as alternate links. I guess I am just looking for a bit of re-affirmation I am doing this right.</xhtml:link<br></xhtml:link<br> Thanks!0 -
Can external links in a menu attract a penalty?
We have some instances of external links (i.e. pointing to another domain) in site menus. Although there are legitimate reasons (e.g. linking to a news archive kept on a separate domain) I understand this can be considered bad from a usability perspective. This begs the question - is this bad for SEO? With the recent panda changes we've seen certain issues which were previously "only" about usability attract SEO penalties, but I can't find any references to this example. Anyone have thoughts / experience?

Duplicate content issue
I have recently built a site that has a main page intended to rank for national coverage. This site also has a number of pages targeted at local searches, these pages are slight variations of each other with town specific keywords. Does anyone know if google will see this as spam and quarantine my site from ranking? Thanks

SEOMoz crawl report shows a duplicate content and duplicate title for these two url's http://freightmonster.com/ and http://freightmonster.com/index.html. How do I fix this?
What page is attached to http://freightmonster.com/ if it is not the index.html ? Should I do a redirect from the index page to something more descriptive?

Suggestions For My Ecommerce Site
I am starting to work on an ecommerce site that I am part owner of. My partner who is the other owner started the site a while back and because he has no internet marketing experience the site didn't come out very well. I am currently overhauling the site and here is a list of things first on my list so I can at least get started on some seo and even ppc. I would really appreciate it if you could take a look at our store and see if you think I am missing anything or you could suggest anything else that really should be done immediately or something that is wrong. The site is www.clubfitnesswarehouse.com Update magento to newest version Fix url structure to be SEO friendly for homepage, category pages, product pages etc. For an example of a site that has great seo friendly urls please refer to examples on http://www.bigfitness.com/ site. For example these pages. http://www.bigfitness.com/treadmillstore.html , http://www.bigfitness.com/bosplincy.html , Remove top navigation menu and instead create left sidebar navigation menu created to navigate site and products. For example of these types of sidebars please refer to sidebar on http://www.bigfitness.com/ or http://www.americanfitness.net/ We will NOT be using same structure as what is in top navigation currently. Categories and keywords of categories will be changed and some will stay the same structure as is currently in navigation For header we would like to feature our shipping policy, returns, privacy policy, no sales tax etc. For example I have seen that I like refer to http://www.spiderofficechairs.com/ Obviously we do not want to copy but something similar for our own site. All images on homepage must be changed to include clickable txt so google can read text not just pictures. We would also like product pages modified to make more user friendly and conversion increased. Add to cart button needs to be changed, text needs to be brighter instead of dull grey color. Add to cart button must also be moved ABOVE THE FOLD! Also on product pages we would like to add sections in addition to Product Description, of Specs, and About section for each product page. We also need the ability to change this information as needed when we need to.
