Sudden increase in backlinks with "Link Reclamation": Any risk from Google?
-
Hi all,
We failed to redirect the links of our old website versions to new website pages for years and we are planning to now redirect all those old links to new in the process of link reclamation. This activity may increase the back links suddenly or steadily. If there is sudden increase in backlinks, will it hurts us? What's Google's stand?
Thanks

Hi Verónica,
Thanks for the answer. I don't think what you suggested is technically difficult to implement. We have thousands of redirects to be done. And anyway all these redirects will not be noticed by Google overnight or backlinks will be increased all of a sudden. The different source links which are generating these backlinks will get indexed at different times varying from days to months. So it'll take 1 day to 3 months to get notified by Google about the increase of these backlinks. But there will be risk if Google can see all the redirects at one shot which I am not sure about. This is my hypothesis. Please let me know if you have different ideas on this.
Thanks

Hi Viz,
As far as know there is no written or spoken rule on that regard. Said that, for me the safest option is to do it calmly.
I consider risky to appear overnight with a bunch of links. If I have to do it, I would chose a few, then I would wait for the indexicing. After that I would verify the consecuences, if any.
This way, in case something goes wrong I will know what caused what. Good luck.Mª Verónica

Backlink profile maintenance?
hello all, I have a large website that generates a few thousand organic links a day per majestic, and has over 2k referring domains. a few months back I did a disavow, but I'm wondering your thoughts on how often I should be looking to get bad links removed and add new links to my disavow list. Also, what is really considered a bad organic link? Are there any companies out there that offer monthly backlink maintenance or something?

Google visits falling at the expense of Bing
Has anyone else noticed their percentage of search visits from Google slipping in the last few weeks at the expense of Bing? We've seen a 4% swing in the last month. Obviously Google is still the dominant presence (acconuting for 88.4% of all organic visits to our site kenwoodtravel.co.uk) but still it would be interesting to know if this is just a blip or more of a trend?

Will too many [img no alt-text] links harm a link profile?
Hi everyone. I have a client who has a lot of sponsorships etc and therefore a lot of inbound image links (many of them sitewide). Unfortunately most of these don't have alt text, and [img no alt-text] links now make up over 50% of their link profile. Should I be trying to correct this and requesting updates from the people who are linking? Obviously I wouldn't want loads of keyword stuffed alt texts, but maybe I should request alt texts on the brand name or URL instead. Do you think this would make a significant difference and be worth the time it will take to contact all these webmasters? Thanks in advance.

Has there been a Google change in the last 24 hours?
We have come in this morning to find our site (paydayuk.co.uk) has suddenly disappeared from their SERPs, we have consistently been ranking in the top 5 for a wide range of search terms but now do not even appear for our brand name of Payday UK where we have been first for many months. Our site is still indexed and we have made no changes for a while as any SEO work is waiting on completion of a CMS system. Looking in https://groups.google.com/a/googleproductforums.com/forum/#!categories/webmasters/crawling-indexing--ranking and there seem to be a lot of people having the same issues but as of yet no answers. I'd also like to add we don’t use black hat techniques so we really don’t understand why we have been penalised. Can anyone help please?

Why would my product pages no longer be indexed in Google?
Our UK site has 72 pages in our sitemap. 30 of them are product pages which take a productid parameter. Prior to 1st Feb 2011, all pages were indexed in Google but since then all of our product pages seem to have dropped from the index? If I check in webmaster tools, I can see that we have submitted 72 pages and 42 are indexed. I realise we should have some better url structuring and I'm working on that but do you have any ideas on how we can get our product poages back into googles index http://www.ebacdirect.com
