Facebook Contests
-
Hey Moz Community,
I've been reading some articles that Facebook no longer likes if Business Pages run contests on their Pages. I was thinking about doing something super simple with a "Like, Comment, and Share" type of an entry. Does anyone know if this is still allowed - I can't seem to find a concrete answer. Even the guidelines for Facebook seem a bit vague. I could always take the contest offline and use a landing page on my website to generate traffic but that also doesn't help with my social following.
Thoughts, insights all welcome.
Thanks!

Hey Matt,
From my knowledge this is what I know about FB competitions:
- You can't ask people to share or tag: "3. Promotions may be administered on Pages or within apps on Facebook. Personal Timelines and friend connections must not be used to administer promotions (ex: “share on your Timeline to enter” or “share on your friend's Timeline to get additional entries”, and "tag your friends in this post to enter" are not permitted)."
- You have to acknowledge the competition is in 'no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Facebook.'
I also recently read the following article which provided some interesting insights: https://www.macandernie.com.au/blog/how-to-run-a-competition-on-facebook
Hope this helps

Facebook News Feed - Proximity as a Factor?
I just got back from a conference in Florida and since being back am seeing many of those industry friends showing up in my Facebook feed with much more regularity than usual - is Facebook using proximity between devices in delivering who shows up in the news feed?

Wow, I can get a lot of Facebook likes quickly!
I did some testing with Facebook ads and resulting Facebook likes on target pages. And something is wrong! Just after creating the ad, before the ad was approved, I could get many likes on the target page without even seeing any traffic on server logs or google analytics. I documented my tests here. I repeated the tests 6 times, every time I could get tens of likes on the target page within seconds and without any approval of the ad. These pages have little traffic and there's no way these likes could have been natural! Everyone I reported was able to reproduce it, try yourself. A little update. I found others reporting un-expected Likes pouring... But at least they were "running" the ad, so externals to Facebook could have seen it and decided to Like it to later offer "liking" service as reported from this fellow. But in my case the ad was not approved... So... Who can see it beside me and Facebook?

Why am I seeing so many referalls to my root domain from Facebook in Google Analytics?
When we look at referalls from Facebook in Google Analytics, more than 50% (and sometimes upwards of 80%) of the traffic we're getting is listed as landing on our root domain. The thing is, we don't have any direct links TO our root domain on our Facebook page. So is this legitimate traffic, and how are they getting to our page if we have no links to it? We do post links to stories, videos, etc, but those are to the individual pages, not to our root domain. When I look at those pages that we link to, they do have traffic numbers, but nothing compared to the root domain. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks.

Company Facebook and Personal Facebook with company name.
I am helping a company get their social profiles and networking in order, and just realized that they have a facebook page that is their "company page" - https://www.facebook.com/Capitol.Collision.Repair.Phoenix and one that is a person called their company: https://www.facebook.com/capitol.collisonis their any benefit to having both of them still active or should I just get rid of the "personal profile" and keep the company page? any advice would be really helpful! Thank you, J

Facebook Likes When Sharing
Company A Someone shares a post from Company B on their Facebook page. The post generated 1000 likes and 300 shares. Only a small percentage of likes show up for Company B's page. Why does Company B's page not receive all the likes or at least a higher percentage for that post?

Facebook Page not in Search
My Facebook page does not show up within the first 50 results of a search for my brand. I have over 3,000 fans and am relatively active so it should be there. On the second page of SERPs for my brand there is a Facebook page of a spammy looking affiliate with 15 fans. On the third page my Facebook test page appears. Any ideas about what happened with my page? Is it possible Google penalized my Facebook page - and if so, how do I fix that? I checked the admin again and the page is open to the public and when I do a search for "brand facebook" it appears. Thanks for your help!

Facebook - one page or two for local insurance agency with 2 locations?
We have 2 offices within 20 miles of each other, and we are getting ready to launch a facebook page (or pages)... I'm not sure whether we should put up one page or two. One office is our 'corporate office', and the other a 'satellite' office, both are very much open for business, but there will never be a need to post something on one and not the other...the two locations are just too close for there to be a need for that. If something is relevant to one town, it is relevant to the other. I am really leaning toward one page for both offices for many reasons, but it seems like facebook wants me to have 2 pages (ie. I can't put in more than one address). Any help is much appreciated! Thank you!

Find Facebook Likes and Google +1's Across An Entire Domain?
Does anyone know a good way to find the number of Facebook Likes or Google +1's across an entire domain? It looks like SEOMoz only shows these metrics for individual pages.
