Hreflang in country specific XML Sitemaps?
-
Hello!
I'm rolling out hreflang tags in my client's "main" XML Sitemap.
My question is: do we need to implement these tags in the country level XML Sitemaps also?
Thanks!

Hey SimpleSearch–yes, you'll need to indicate these alternate URLs in your sitemap. Google claims that you can use hreflang or sitemaps to indicate international content, but I typically find that being thorough is best (you can always test whether your updated sitemap has made a difference through log file analysis before and after you execute this change).
Here is Google's writeup on indicating alternate pages via sitemap: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/189077?hl=en

If you have different content/pages oriented for different regions, yes you need to implement

Hreflang usage for language & country x only language
Hi guys, I´m dealing with a website of a client where hreflang tags are implemented as follows: As you can see the hreflang tags reference language & countrycode as well as only the languagecode with the same URL (for french: website/fr/ihr-besuch/online-tickets" hreflang="fr-fr" as well as hreflang="fr" href="https://www.website/fr/ihr-besuch/online-tickets"). Is this a problem and should be corrected so that either language & countrycode is referenced or only languagecode? Thanks in advance!

Sitemap url's not being indexed
There is an issue on one of our sites regarding many of the sitemap url's not being indexed. (at least 70% is not being indexed) The url's in the sitemap are normal url's without any strange characters attached to them, but after looking into it, it seems a lot of the url's get a #. + a number sequence attached to them once you actually go to that url. We are not sure if the "addthis" bookmark could cause this, or if it's another script doing it. For example Url in the sitemap: http://example.com/example-category/0246 Url once you actually go to that link: http://example.com/example-category/0246#.VR5a Just for further information, the XML file does not have any style information associated with it and is in it's most basic form. Has anyone had similar issues with their sitemap not being indexed properly ?...Could this be the cause of many of these url's not being indexed ? Thanks all for your help.

301 - Specific Domain
In Google our main website page url is <cite class="_Rm">www.wheelchairparts.com</cite> it has 25 root domain links & PA 34. When you go to our website from there, the homepage url is http://www.wheelchairparts.com/store/pc/home.asp it only has 3 root domain links & PA 27. Do I need to add a 301 Redirect here? What kind of redirect is on it now? Thanks, - Mike Bean

Google News Sitemap
Currently for our website Thinkdigit, we are using a rss sitemap (http://www.thinkdigit.com/google_sitemap/news_rss.php) for news. Please let me know is this the right format or we should use xml format only. Also we have lost a huge chunk of traffic from news search, Previously it used to be around 10,000 visit from google news, now it is just 300 visit per day.

Country specific micro-sites or all under the .com domain?
We are working with a new client that works across a number of jurisdictions. Currently they have a number of micro-sites. Each is domained under a relevant domain i.e. .hk for Hong Kong, .ru Russia etc. There is a push to absorb these into their main .com site to make it easier to manage. Given that they want to build a local presence in these areas (including having offices there) and that these site are translated into the local language, what are the SEO implications of such a move?

Blocking URL's with specific parameters from Googlebot
Hi, I've discovered that Googlebot's are voting on products listed on our website and as a result are creating negative ratings by placing votes from 1 to 5 for every product. The voting function is handled using Javascript, as shown below, and the script prevents multiple votes so most products end up with a vote of 1, which translates to "poor". How do I go about using robots.txt to block a URL with specific parameters only? I'm worried that I might end up blocking the whole product listing, which would result in de-listing from Google and the loss of many highly ranked pages. DON'T want to block: http://www.mysite.com/product.php?productid=1234 WANT to block: http://www.mysite.com/product.php?mode=vote&productid=1234&vote=2 Javacript button code: onclick="javascript: document.voteform.submit();" Thanks in advance for any advice given. Regards,
