302 from landingspage to language page
-
Hi Everyone,
A client of us has a Belgian website in 2 different languages, in French and in Dutch.
We make use of hreflang tags, so each user gets to see the website in their preferred language. The landingspage on the website however, let's say www.example.be, has a 302 redirect to the French version of the website (www.example.be/fr/). And Dutch users get to see the Dutch version (www.example.be/nl/) of the website when they browse to www.example.be .
Now, I want to get rid of the 302 redirect. Should I replace it to a 301 redirect, without sending every user automatically to one of the 2 versions? Should I just remove the redirect? Or should I just leave it this way?
I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
Jens

Thanks for your answer.
It's not about changing the business name, but I guess it's just to guide people to the right version of the website. So there is a 302 redirect but I don't know the exact purpose of that. I want to get rid of it, and I am looking for the best solution, without any loss in UX or rankings.

301 use as permanent move to other pages while 302 means move the page temporarily. If you are focusing on the main site which is www.example.be search engine recognized and index the www.example.be . About the other links popularity might be divided between the two urls. If concerned about losing rankings due to a 301, the solution is not to change a domain, and not to become financially reliant on rankings. In the real world, businesses avoid changing their names because it can appear shady.

How come only 2 pages of my 16 page infographic are being crawled by Moz?
Our Infographic titled "What Is Coaching" was officially launched 5 weeks ago. http://whatiscoaching.erickson.edu/ We set up campaigns in Moz & Google Analytics to track its performance. Moz is reporting No organic traffic and is only crawling 2 of the 16 pages we created. (see first and third attachments) Google Analytics is seeing hundreds of some very strange random pages (see second attachment) Both campaigns are tracking the url above. We have no idea where we've gone wrong. Please help!! 16_pages_seen_in_wordpress.png how_google_analytics_sees_pages.png what_moz_sees.png

Effect of 302 redirects from empty parent page to sub page
A client's website has links to their service pages which then redirect (302 through a php "Location:" header) to that service's first sub-page. For example, our-services/service-x redirects to our-services/service-x/about-service-x I can only think this has been done because there is no actual content for the parent page and to maintain some kind of structure for navigation and URLs. Really there's no reason why the 'about-service-x' page can't be removed and its content transferred to the main 'service-x' page. Then the redirects can be removed also - it's not how a 302 should be used for a start. I'm just wondering what kind of effect this current redirection has on SEO, as I know 302s don't pass any link juice? Thanks for your help.

Language Selection Splash Page- Impact on SEO
Hi, Our site has a page for new visitors to select their language to view our website So if you type our brand adress (http://www.bdc.ca) you should be redirected to this "splash" page (http://www.bdc.ca/pages/splashpage.aspx). What is the SEO impact of doing this and is there a better way for users to choose their languages, SEO-wise (and UX wise) ? You'll also see that after the visitor select its language, he's redirected to the actual home page using a two 302 redirects ( one to bdc.ca/en/ and then another one to the actual home page). I am aware of this and I know this is really bad. Please share what you think would be the best way to manage this language selection in respect to SEO, but with respect to UX too. Thanks ! I am trying to correct duplicate content. However SEOmoz only reports and shows the page of duplicate content. I have 5 years worth of blogs and cannot find the duplicate page. Is my only option to just delete the page to improve my rankings. Brooke

How do https pages affect indexing?
Our site involves e-commerce transactions that we want users to be able to complete via javascript popup/overlay boxes. in order to make the credit card form secure, we need the referring page to be secure, so we are considering making the entire site secure so all of our site links wiould be https. (PayPal works this way.) Do you think this will negatively impact whether Google and other search engines are able to index our pages?
