Google Images search traffic and image thumbnail issues

Hi MOZ community!
Need a little help with a strange issue we are seeing of late on our project CareerAddict.com.
We have seen a sudden and significant drop in image visibility in Search Console from the 27th August onwards. I understand that Google has been updating their filters and other bits in image search, so maybe this could have impacted us?
I also noticed that the images which are mapped to our articles are not the full featured article 700px wide images which we provide to Google in the Structured Data. They are instead taking the OG share 450px wide images now on many occasions. You can see this by searching for "careeraddict.com" in images.
Any insight or suggestions welcome on both of these. Interested to understand if any other webmasters are experiencing other or similar problems with image visibility in Google also.
Thanks!

Hi Tom,
Thanks for your response on this.
I have seen several credible websites state that canonical image URLs are not used by Google and should not be used, even on MOZ I have read this too I believe. Interested to know your source on this?
The use of our own self-hosted cdn to load images using multiple connections is following Google's image best practices - this is recommended across the web too. So not sure what the problem is you are highlighting there? The only thing that was a concern was the fact we are using a different domain entire, not the deployment of the self-hosted cdn.
The og:image and structured data image are using the primary domain, and again, that is following best practices.
Thanks

Hi,
I noticed you have your own CDN like domain on dq1.me which has multiple sub-domains. On some of the articles I looked at there were images being used on the page being pulled in from various sub-domains of the dq1.me domain. Furthermore, some of your tags such as
og:image
were using the same images but on the primary www.careeraddict.com domain.I'd suggest you try to sort this confusion out, and have a canonical image URL that is used everywhere across the site. I imagine there are many confusing signals for Google with there being 2-4 URLs per image which are potentially all being used in different places.
Good luck!

Are we confusing Google with our internal linking?
Hi all, We decided to give importance to one of our top pages as it has "keyword" in it's slug like website.com/keyword. So we internally linked even from different sub-domain pages more than homepage to rank for that "keyword". But this page didn't show up in Google results for that "keyword"; neither homepage, but our login page is ranking. We wonder why login page is ranking. Has our internal linking plan confused Google to ignore homepage to rank for that primary keyword? And generally do we need to internally link homepage more than anyother page? Thanks

Organic Traffic Stagnant
Our automobile portal is the leading in Pakistan and we are there for almost 10 years now, we already rank in top 3 keywords ( top 1 on most of them ) but our search traffic has become stagnant, we have tried to optimize for keywords that google search tool show has more traffic and we have gained ranking in most of them but still our search traffic isnt showing any much increase. Is it possible that we have already got all the juice and there arent much people who are searching auto related keywords or what can we do to increase organic traffic? Work on long tail keywords? Whats next?

Search history Effects on SERPS
With search engines using adaptive search in their algo, what's the best way to reset? Currently I go to my browser which primarily is Safari second Firefox third Chrome, I empty the cache, clear history and remove all cookies and data. I also disable customerzation based on search history. Is this the best way of starting from scratch so my search results won't incorporate adaptive search tech? I also make sure I'm not signed into my gmail account since that can impact SERPS as well. What else should I be doing to make sure my search is not customized?

Organic Search dropped 50% Wednesday and has not recovered
I've included two charts below. 1. Our organic search results for the last year and, 2. Results for the last 6 weeks. We were up to about 350 visits per day in June 2011. In late june we added affiliate links to our site and took a hit down to about 120 a day. At the end of august we moved the affiliate links behind a login. Only registered users saw them. And we started moving back up. Last week January 8-14 we were averaging about 550 per day. Then this Wednesday we dropped to 287. Thursday 268. And today is under 100. We have not updated our website at all. No changes. Does anyone have any idea what might have caused this plunge. Has anyone else seen their traffic drop in half. Thanks for your help. dash_month.jpg dash_year.jpg

Rankings changing every couple of MINUTES in Google?
We've been experiencing some unusual behaviour in the Google.co.uk SERPs recently... Basically, the ranking of some of our websites for certain keywords appears to be changing by the minute. For example, doing a search for "our keyword" might show us at #20. Then a few minutes later, doing the same search shows us at #14, and then the same search a few minutes later shows us at #26, and then sometimes we're not ranked at all, etc etc. I know the algorithm changes a lot, but does it really change every couple of minutes? Has anyone else experienced this kind of behaviour in the SERPs? What could be causing it to happen?
