If concepts are too similar when grouping keywords what do I do ?
-
I will summarise and then ty to explain :
When I group keyword with the keyword explorer if concepts (grouping keywords) that I find are too similar to each other how do I go about it...
Ldg me know explain.
When google doesn't have enough data to rank a website with content does it only use links ?
Let me give you an example. If I take "title tag" as a keyword people have a lots of questions that can be answered which will create numerous concepts.
However, let's take "hiking tours Italy" for example. If I go through the keyword explorer or all the other tools existing out there people don't have questions. All I find are variations or synonyms of my keyword and I group by low lexical similarity all the words are going to be very similar.
I know that each variation can be grouped and considered a different concepts but writing about various concepts that mean exactly the same thing because of lack of data not very smart and useful...
So in that case what does google do, does it rank a website only based on links or schema ? see that it has no way to rank it based on good quality content because of a lack of data (questions that could be answers that would lead to concepts).
Thank you,
-
I think there's a lot to be said for this approach, in general for content production. If you yourself can't 'get out there', there's always the option of temporarily hiring the services of someone who has been out that way

Ah I see what you are saying, sorry! Maybe try a different tool like this one: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1n03BfU2iS7eanuRwKWUDGrncRHOx7nkZpLSCB0V_F6E/copy (Google Sheets)
There are various tools you can use for keyword grouping, this is one which I sometimes make use of. It won't do a perfect job, but if you use it you can fix the 'noisy' data manually. It's still faster than doing everything manually from scratch, even though it will require some manual actions

Interesting ...

"hiking tours Italy" is really broad and there is a lot of fine detail.
I think that you need to go to Italy and do some hiking. Then you will have first-hand experience, know what people see, know the routes they take, know the destinations, have real photos... Each of these is a separate topic for content. You could spend a year hiking in Italy.
Spend a month hiking the vineyard country of Tuscany, another month hiking on Sicily and seeing volcanic landscapes, a month in Abruzzo with history and views of the Adriatic. Hike in the day, write every night.
People want more than a "hike". They want to see stuff, they want to learn things, they want experiences. Each part of Italy is unique and has different types of hiking.

Thank you for the information nut I think you misunderstood what I meant.
I am not talking about the search volume but I am talking about the keyword found when I group by lexical similarity.
For example when I group by high lexical similarity let's say "alsace bike tour" google doesn't have any data and keyword explorer is almost unable to create groups with sentences that "mean the same thing". In other words I have to try to guess what would be the sentences and create groups myself.

I think you just have to wait for Google to catch up, basically. If terms are basically synonyms, then it wouldn't make sense to consider them as separate concepts. I don't think Google, or users, would like to see more long pages where the author is trying to make very similar terms seem like different entities (when they are not)
By the way, Google have more data than the tools let on. Especially regarding their keyword data, where the search volumes are rounded up and down in 10s. So in reality, when Google says a keyword has zero search volume, it actually just means "less than five" - so it gets rounded down to 0
There have been many times where I have decided to build out along such keywords which 'seemingly' have no search volume, only to find that Search Console tells me I am getting clicks from keywords which (according to Keyword Planner / Keyword Explorer) have no search volume. I am pretty sure that Google's ranking algorithms, interact with non-averaged non-rounded searches, not the data which we see
In the end, sometimes you just have to say, "no! I don't believe this is a zero, I think people are searching for this question and others. I need to create content before search volumes show up in Google's tools, so that when search volume increases I am already on top and ahead of other marketers who are using a more basic approach". Sometimes this will work for you, sometimes your instincts will be wrong and you won't get as many searches as you think
Over time you will develop better instincts with regard to 'false-zero' keywords and it will become second nature

How to perform keyword research for Innovative products?
Hi Mozzers, I am doing an SEO audit for a new client that has an innovative product in the shoe industry. The terms he uses to qualify his shoes don't get searched that much. Digging in into his google analytics I found some potential kws that has a small amount of traffic that he is already ranking for. So my question is how should I conduct my kw research for an innovative product that is new to the market and no competitors to analyze from? Thanks for providing any tips and/or suggestions!

Keyword rich internal linking - problem?
Had an interesting situation today.. We write daily news articles on our site. In each article we link out to two sources that we are writing about (credible sources) and we do one or two internal links. For example.. 'Today McDonald's have announced that they are purchasing more blue widgets in order to increase their opportunity to appeal to a larger market.' So in that sentence you can see one outbound link and one inbound to blue widgets on our site. I got an email today from a large company who we have written an article about in the industry and they have asked me to remove the link to their site.. I actually asked them why and this was their response. 'We're concerned because of the number of keyword-rich internal links in the article, and are worried that being included alongside them might be misinterpreted by Google as an artificial link.' Fristly, do they really have anything to be worried about?.. but more importantly, with our internal linking, do we have anything to be worried about?.

How Does Google Treat Date Ranges For a Specific Keyword or Query?
How are date ranges interpreted by Google - ie if you type "1993-2003" does Google know 1995 is incl. and should be referenced for a query? What is the best practice for an ecomm site when it comes to a landing page for multiple years? Should be list out each year (looks spammy, "2003,2004,2005...), go with a full range (1993-2003 ), or is a two digit range suffice (88-95)?

Influence on CTR for high traffic keyword in url and redirect
I currently dominate on my site for a very high traffic keyword. My url contains this keyword in it along with the word "Free" in the beginning. Lets say my keyword is "This Keyword" then my url would be freethiskeyword.com. I rank 3rd for this keyword and generates me about 8k on a low month. I was just able to obtain my main keyword as my sole URL through an auction for a measly 2,000.00. (Very Excited about this). So now I have the URL thiskeyword.com What I want to know is what kind of influence can I expect with my new URL have in CTR. Since it is a high traffic keyword is there a automatic "Trust" factor that is involved and will users tend to click on thiskeyword.com as apposed to freethiskeyword.com? My Second Question I am torn as to what I should do with this new URL. Should I redirect my old URL to my new URL and keep both pointing to the same site? or should I try and dominate my niche and build a new site entirely. Since I currently make about 8k a month for third, if I were to build a separate site and be able to obtain 1st place for my new keyword that would generate me 2 amounts in income based on stats. CTR based on http://searchenginewatch.com/article/2049695/Top-Google-Result-Gets-36.4-of-Clicks-Study freethiskeyword.com = 8k/m for 3rd based on 10% of clicks (currently) thiskeyword.com = 24k/m for 1st based on 36% of clicks (in theory) If I keep each site separate and be able to have one site at 3rd and the other at 1st then I would be making about 32k a month. If I redirect my old url to my new url then I would only have 1st place (if I make it to first of course) and that would only make me 24k a month. It seems to me I should keep these sites separate to generate more income. I am torn what I should do. Also with the EMD penalty I am afraid to 301 my site to my new URL since it is my exact keyword as apposed to my current one. I am defiantly branded as "Free This Keyword" so moving it to thiskeyword.com could hurt me more than help (at least I think so) What you think?

Can Keyword-Stuffing on a Single Page Penalize My Entire Site?
Hi forum! I want to improve my internal linking through adding keyword-rich anchor text to my search results pages (my site has an internal search engine for products). For example, if I were a shoes store, my product search engine results are currently:
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Travis-W
-Running
-Hiking
-Walking
-Track and I want to make them actual keyword-terms by changing them to:
-Running Shoes
-Hiking Shoes
-Walking Shoes
-Track Shoes This creates a problem - the keyword "shoes" is stuffed on the page. I don't care how well these dynamic search results pages appear in search, only the actual product pages. Is it okay to keyword stuff on these pages, or would it penalize my entire site?0 -
